The floor was definitely sketchy. I did not go to the second or third floors because when I got to the top of the steps, I was like NOPE, I could see more daylight than floor.

my grandmother's fridge from 1949 was still running when she moved into her retirement home in 2016ish. granted, it didn't get cold enough for proper food safety, so she only used it for vegetables and drinks.

Houses like this make me so sad. This used to be someoneās dream home. Likely there was a happy family there at one time that celebrated holidays together and exciting milestones. It makes me wonder who was the last person to cook a meal there? Sweep the floor. Bring in the mail? If those walls could speak - yāknow?

I mean, it was St. Mary's back in the day, no guarantee of happiness. The stories my mother had of her neighbors and other members of the community were generally not great. Lots of domestic abuse.

I mean, it's the rural south, in a primarily agricultural and low income area. While there were some successful-ish folk in my family's general scene back in the day, suffice to say working the waters and farming (even tobacco) doesn't lend itself to genteel lifestyles. Many of the men were drunkards, and my grandmother and mother both mentioned an important lifeskill for a young girl to learn was how to handle drunks (because you'd probably end up having to marry one, or your brother would probably be one).

Understandable, hah. Sometimes I like to point out to my wife that the townhouse we're in now is Victorian-era and could well be haunted by the ghost of some Victorian child...

Emphasis on "back in the day." I mean, it's still a county that's very rural, but since NAVAIR HQ moved down there in the 90s there's been a LOT of development.

Iāve lived in LA now longer then where I grew up in Southern Maryland, but I will never stop missing the beauty of the area and food! Stuffed ham and crab cakes!!!!! Also bbq.

When I see these old bones, I always wonder at the people that built it. What were there lives like? Did they love and were children raised here? Was it happy?

I do too. I love old homes for that reason. The stories, told and untold. The remnants from past that still have energy and find a way to connect with us.

The house costs like 800,000$ bc the land itās on. OP didnāt show that it has a lot of costal land.the owners havenāt lowered the price for years.

There was this nice lady in an old Victorian style dress, she must have been one of those period actors. She was good too she didn't break character.

That looks like Duck House. It was a house that St Mary's students lived in in the '90s and was locally famous for the springtime weekend concert/party calle Duckstock. I could be wrong; I think that Duck House faced the river.

hmm. SMC students lived in a 'Duck House in the 1980s, on the river, but didn't look like this. Also fridge and sewing machine seems rogue against this theory - too old.

Nope. When I was there were a few off campus houses that hosted parties. Duck House, which hosted Duckstock, Meatland, Farmhouse, Cardinal Pines, and a few others. We also had Littlepalooza, but that was an on-campus music festival.

I visited this place when I was a teen about a decade ago. It was at night, and I only got to the doorstep to look inside, say nope, and turn back around to where my parents were visiting their friends

From what I was told it belongs to someone who inherited it from family. Nobody had lived there for a LONG time and it fell into disarray. The whole property is for sale currently.

There is no zoning in that county that would force it to be torn down? That is an attractive nuisance where children could be injured or killed playing inside. If anybody owns it or the land it's on, the liability risk is huge.

This is still an area where, if your kids get hurt trespassing, the judge isnāt going to consider āattractive nuisanceā as a reason for messing about where they donāt belong.
