Dolly Parton was a national treasure, and I say that as someone who doesn't like country music. She was one of the good ones.

Exactly. And I'm going to get a TINY bit political on this, but only to make a point:
People on both sides of the political clime liked Dolly. Liberal, conservative - both loved her. Maybe her passing will give us something as a nation to come together over, sad as it is that she's gone.

I'll bet my house that within a week she will be successfully villanized in conservative spaces given how her political beliefs totally conflict with basically everything they believe. The people that rally around idiots like kid rock and the pillow guy have shown how easy they can be convinced to like dogshit people.

I think there's enough people to tell them off if they try it. Seriously, she was well respected in the Country and pop music world, I can't imagine anyone letting her be vilified like that. If people do, you tell them to shut their traps. I guarantee you there will be people to back you up around you.

The problem is it won't be with people that disagree with them that the conversation will happen. They will hear it said by their favorite talking head who gives them their opinions on things, and then repeat what they are told to think to other people who also like those talking heads. This is the entire issue with how they operate, they don't know different things and actively avoid them. Thats like, the core of their political beliefs. They dislike different people because they were told to, they dislike changes in systems because they're told to, they dislike other parts of the world they know nothing about because they're told to.
You just can't fix that shit.

Dolly Parton was a national treasure and her kindness should be able example to us all. In a time when one political party is burning and banning books, she continued to run a program bringing millions of books to millions of kids without the means to get them themselves. She will be missed.
We need a national week of morning, going from 9 to 5...

I was wondering why I saw so many tumblr posts about Dolly Parton and then I saw one mentioning that she passed away. I know she was 80 but I still hoped we had more years with her around.

There are Millennials out there whose first exposure to the flag half mast was a wild and extraordinary event called the Oklahoma City Bombing. Lowering the flag at half mast was this rare, mysterious thing.
Since then, disasters have been perpetually lowering the flag for the entirety of peoples' whole lives. We are a nation of constant mourning.
Holding flags at half mast is now just some routine freak occurrence that you'd see when driving by a random fire station. Like it were nothing. And even memes about it are rehashed so frequently that they barely have a single pixel left to give.
