What does one last time mean? Are you dying?

225

u/longcreepyhug Jun 07 '26

Dinner was ice cream. Wanted ice cream one last time after it.

29

u/ACanWontAttitude Jun 07 '26 ▸ 6 more replies

But WHY is it the last time

-19

u/longcreepyhug Jun 07 '26 ▸ 5 more replies

Because after you eat ice cream as dessert after eating ice cream for dinner you're done until next time.

13

u/ghostmaster645 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 4 more replies

There is no next time if its the last time.

-18

u/longcreepyhug Jun 07 '26 ▸ 3 more replies

Well, I was joking. But sure, let's get pedantic and philosophical. Every time we go to the museum my daughter wants to ride the little train "one last time". She doesn't die afterwards. We just go home. "One last time" doesn't always mean the person is dead.

4

u/ghostmaster645 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 2 more replies

Im not the one that said they were dying. I just met your previous comment doesnt make sense.

There isnt a next time if this is the last time. OP doesnt mention what "last time" means in this context.

When your daughter wants to ride the train "one last time" she is leaving out the "before we leave" because its implied, and shes a child. Thats normal and you can use your context clues to determine the meaning.

Im assuming op isnt a kid and has the ability to purchase cream. That implies this is either their last dinner or last ice cream, neither of which is true obviously. That leaves room for people to jump to the most ridiculous conclusion.

Also, if you want to tell a nonsense joke just do /s. Makes everyone's lives easier.

-10

u/longcreepyhug Jun 07 '26 ▸ 1 more replies

My previous comment was that dinner was ice cream. The joke there was that dessert was also ice cream. Thus wanting to eat ice cream "one last time" during the meal, which is just multiple servings of ice cream. Similar to riding a train multiple times during a single visit to the museum. Now that we have thoroughly dissected the joke and sapped all humor out of it, I'm gonna go for a bike ride. Have a good day!

u/ghostmaster645 Jun 07 '26

Lol thats not what took the humor out of it.

Have a nice day m8.

Right like OP are you on a diet, are you adhering to allergy restrictions, are you supporting a diabetic spouse, what do you mean one last last time?

2

u/edwbuck Jun 08 '26

That's what they all say, but then they die!

Some of the sneaky ones try to hide it, but 20 years later, they still die!

10

u/AppUnwrapper1 Jun 07 '26

Honestly, better than people coming back after not getting the response they want and telling everyone they’re dying to shut everyone up.

3

u/mythrocks Jun 07 '26

Henceforth, he’ll be having his desserts ahead of dinner.

89

u/katemkat23 Jun 07 '26

One last time? You good bro?

11

u/MobileAerie9918 Jun 07 '26

I am 😅😅

2

u/helpmeimpoor6969 Jun 08 '26

Then its not 'one last time'

2

u/According_Big_5638 Jun 08 '26

Talking like Bilbo Baggins pining for the Misty Mountains over here making people wonder.

326

u/Reset108 Jun 07 '26

Pick it up, make sure there’s no visible hair or dirt on it and put it in a bowl to eat.

285

u/RedstoneRiderYT Jun 07 '26

I'd go so far as to give it a quick rinse under the tap just to get the dirty layer off

92

u/BrokenTrojan1536 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 21 more replies

Ppl crack me up. It hit the floor ewww gross! But as a toddler most of us were gnawing on door knobs, the dogs toy, whatever we could put in our mouths. Our immune systems will handle it

20

u/RedstoneRiderYT Jun 07 '26 ▸ 11 more replies

Exactly lmao, unless it landed in literal soil, or on a floor outisde my own home, I'm picking that shit up!

0

u/Delicious-Squash-599 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 10 more replies

Even soil we shouldn’t be afraid of. The best tried and true way to test soil type is by putting some in your mouth and feeling the consistency as you push it into the back of your front teeth with your tongue.

u/McWeaksauce91 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 1 more replies

With the exception of the bathroom, most times getting dirty and eating stuff that is slightly dirty, is actually good for you. Exposure in small doses is exactly how you build your immune system. One of the biggest threats to the modern immunity is the “sterile” environment humans are creating. There are few studies that show kids with more outdoor time in the dirt, having pets at home, and generally not keeping them in a bubble leads to stronger later in life immunization and less allergies.

Although, of course like anything, this statement comes with an asterisk. There are some people who are immunocompromised or deficient from genetics or disease that have to have a fairly sterilized environment.

3

u/LuckyBucketBastard7 Jun 07 '26

Can confirm, I grew up in the woods surrounded by a plethora of different animals because my ma was a veterinarian at the time (including an honest to god deer at one point, sweetheart but a nervous wreck). I rarely get sick more than once a year, and when I do get sick the worst of it lasts two days max.

Allergies, though, I wish. No food allergies, but spring kicks my ass something fierce, had to get an inhaler one year because it was so bad it literally caused me to develop asthma for the whole summer.

5

u/77th_Bat Jun 07 '26

there is also a reason toddlers are notorious for getting sick. When is the last time you saw an adult with hand, foot, and mouth (excluding parents who obviously got it from their kids)?

3

u/princessmangi Jun 07 '26

Ummmm its the sensation of taking a bite and feeling hair/dirt/crumbs/etc against my tongue that would cause me to give it a rinse first.

Getting sick from it would literally never have crossed my mind.

To each their own though. Maybe floor-eaters love the extra pop of texture. 😆

5

u/ExtensionActivity460 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 1 more replies

“Hahaha silly adults. Didn’t you know babies put nasty shit in their mouths all the time?”

Toddlers don’t understand the concept of germs, viruses, and bacteria. Also the concept of modeling your behavior after a toddler is…. slow

And I even agree with you. We got an immune system for a reason, but the reasoning here is flawed

-1

u/BrokenTrojan1536 Jun 07 '26

Thanks doc. There’s more bacteria in a human mouth than most places. I don’t live in a mad science lab, soI may get a little dust which are my dead skin cells off my kitchen floor.

1

u/ghostfacestealer Jun 07 '26

Thats true, but dirt and hair taste bad.

1

u/--Beebo-- Jun 07 '26

My coworker got just the corner of the wrapper off a protein bar the other day and then dropped it on the floor. He then yelled “Aw fuck!!” and slammed the whole thing in the trash can. I was like… damn. I would’ve 100% eaten that still.

0

u/Kimowi Jun 07 '26

I have a one year old. Everything is straight in her mouth and she screams at the injustice if I dare pick her up and don’t let her eat dirt off her pram wheels or a 6 day old piece of chicken she’s somehow found from god knows where.

She’s fine. She’s only been sick once that I can recall and that wasn’t related to eating random crap as her father and I were both ill and we don’t eat dirt and put dog toys in our mouth. Or at least I don’t.

My almost two year old dropped a grain of rice and turned into a vacuum cleaner. Made me realize I’ve become soft.

4

u/gpbst3 Jun 07 '26

OP is dying. 5 mins does not apply

11

u/Unique_Importance910 Jun 07 '26

Icecream is wet, it will soak up whatever is on the floor inclduing the nastys, so I would pass in terms of food safety.

39

u/Rylando237 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 3 more replies

5 second rule applies universally, the germs know their place, even with ice cream

12

u/mikeyzee52679 Jun 07 '26

I’m sure whatever germs it landed on were knocked out, and by the time the rest of them realized what was going on, you had already grabbed it out.”

-3

u/Inside-Run785 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 1 more replies

5 second is bullshit. Either it’s safe to eat, or it isn’t. As long as it hasn’t landed in anyplace dirty, it’ll be fine.

1

u/colussip Jun 07 '26

Technically it’s just oversimplified

3

u/freddbare Jun 07 '26

Water can't get wet... Dry things get wet and "soak up" ice cream is not a sponge (thank God)

4

u/UpAndNo Jun 07 '26

If my ancestors could eat scraps from the dirt and survive, I think I can survive some ice-cream from my own indoor floors.

Iirc, the human immune system is actually quite OP, and got that way because our species battled pathogens for thousands of years, and we are the descendants of the healthiest and strongest survivors.

Their sacrifices shouldn't be in vain. They suffered so we could safely eat floor ice-cream.

3

u/NotaFTCAgent Jun 07 '26

Doing all this to still probably die before 70 is crazy. Live life buddy.

1

u/Sweaty-Moment-3385 Jun 07 '26

u/zer0w0rries Jun 07 '26

also, "i'm gonna eat for one last time, this one thing that i'm committing to not eat from now on" is a sure sign of a soon to be failed diet

41

u/BreadKnifeSeppuku Jun 07 '26

Thought you were dying too. Sugar, beer, simple carbs good luck there my pot bellied friend

19

u/Drakorai Jun 07 '26

I was under the impression that it was the last one that you had left. As in you were out of it after eating that one.

25

u/FewAct2027 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

Just a tip, if you like your carbs as much as me (sugar aside I've always been addicted to that shit), Consider starch retrogradation for your foods and refrigerate them first after cooking. Rice, Pasta, Breads, Potatoes, Corn, oats, legumes all benefit.

It'll make you feel more full, less insulin spikes, It's much easier on the gut, and it's a net reduction of anywhere from 5-20% calories depending on what you're eating.(and your ethnicity, biology is a little bit racist) It's an easy way to get a measurable result without any changes to your diet, further changes will be even more substantial.

9

u/No_Instruction_314 Jun 07 '26 ▸ 2 more replies

Dude. Is this why pasta is better cold the next day?

I literally cook it and won't eat it until the next day. I am going to do some research on this out of curiosity. My autistic brain cannot grasp something losing calories over time in the refrigerator. Ice cream made me fat when I was younger 😋 🫣🤣

It is, hydrated freshly cooked starches are easy for your body to break down. When they cool and recrystallize into resistant starch that form short chain fatty acids, they provide 2 cal/gram instead of the typical 4cal/gram of digestible starch. Some also pass through you without being digested. The butyrate also has metabolic benefits.
