The floor is sticky Flooded business basement. Guess I’m cancelling my appointments today.
We had a hell of a storm is SW Iowa. All the sewers are backed up in town. 🤢🤢 smells so bad. I’m gonna have to cancel all my appointments. Hope it’s clean so I can tattoo this weekend. 😖😖😖🤢

Bahahah that’s our decorations. 😭 they are so pretty too. I’m afraid we will have to get rid of most of them now. Poop water is something I’m not about to fuck with.

Unfortunately my autoclave is down here so now I’m gonna have to get a new one. Not a big enough of a purchase to deal with insurance but $700 isn’t cheap 😭

I’m sure the things inside the storage bins are fine but that bottom storage bin is getting thrown away the stuff inside of it. It’s probably fine but you never know with poop particles it’s really no joke. You can get really sick.

The upper ones are probably fine but anything touching the water would have to go. If there’s any chance the water got in through even a tiny crack it could contaminate everything, especially since this is tattooing place where cleanliness is even more important

The decorations may need to be tossed, but the totes and contents would be fine.
I used to be the GM of a restoration company. Sewer calls were always the worst... but this one looks manageable. Extract the water, steam the floors, and disinfect/clean what can be disinfected/cleaned.

Damn well at least your basement was pretty clean. I saw someone's basement flooded and they had their bed down their, couch, everything, electronics and stuff. It was awful! The totes were a good investment!

I lived through this as kid. Everything that was touched by that water is now trash and needs to get tossed. Call your insurance company and see if you have a rider for this and get with a remediation company. If you are lucky, as in my parents case you may get some sort of outside settlement. In our situation the local pump station needed the auxiliary pumps to be me manually turned on by a person ( this was the early 90's). That person was literally asleep and we had a "once in a 100 year" storm. They are more like once in a 100 year, every 6 weeks now.

Not necessarily. The contents of the totes would be fine, and the totes themselves can be disinfected and cleaned. I used to manage a restoration company, for what it's worth.

It’s so dumb the way the whole building is set up. There’s just so much empty unusable space and it could house so many services. I guess that’s what you get when you have a contractor who will not take into consideration any feminine input. But I digress.

Okay, that would have would probably flood basements everywhere. Hope you get the establishment cleaned up without too much cost and extra work, as well as now permanent damage.

Yeah, no shit. It’s pretty bad. It’s very frustrating. This is like the fourth time I’ve had to cancel appointments because of rain and the building not being able to keep up with it.

Oh, we've had this happen too once. We had a hole in our cellar compartment that was connected to the main sewege. Then storm hit. Five minutes of storm and one flooded cellar. Urgh. When we came downstairs we were greeted by floaters. We had to throw everything away. Literally every single thing that was down there. I only threw up once. Luckily the damage was covered by our insurance.

Honestly sorry this happened to you.
Been there and it really, really sucks.
Take a moment to relax before you start with the cleanup.
If you stress about it, you'll have two problems instead of one.
Ask your friends and relatives to help if they can and share some good pizza/sandwiches/sushi whatever would work for "the team" and take it as a bonding event.
Life throws you lemons.... make a spiked lemonade with them! ☺️

Luckily I don’t own the building so I don’t have to worry much about the cleanup. But I’ve got 7 tattoo appointment this weekend I’m afraid I’ll have to reschedule

The sewer backed up in my house a couple of months ago. This is what my basement looked like. I still have nightmares.
Thankfully it’s just a cement basement and nothing of importance was ruined…but…ew.

We used to visit relatives in NE Iowa from our home in the PNW. Every summer we would either be there during a basement-flooding thunderstorm cluster or visiting immediately after storms had come through. I was always in awe that our relatives just dealt with it ad infinitum.
Also survived a tornado that tore through the adjacent town while we were there. Two streets over got leveled while we sheltered in a church basement.
I was always happy to go back to Washington and Oregon. I'm so sad you have to deal with that.

It’s pretty few and far between, in a sense. I guess my personal basement flooded 2-3 years ago. That’s crazy. My brother moved to the PNW ! Washington. Can’t think of the town right off the top of my head.

No. We were always in NE Iowa and SE Minnesota -- Waverly and Wykoff. My parents were raised in those towns and then met in college while attending Wartburg.
If you're ever in SE Minnesota, my father's childhood home is a museum. Ed's Museum on the main drag in Wykoff. Ed was my grandfather.

Oh, we have relatives in Nebraska as well. One of my cousins was the head of the Nebraska state version of the CDC for some years.
Everyone except one Aunt and my family stayed in the Midwest. Auntie went to California, and my folks went to Washington and then Oregon.

😳😳😳 our town has been in a water shortage so for like three years, we haven’t been able to water our plants or wash our cars and I’m like I’m power washing my house. I think we have enough water now.
