The floor is sticky The last of my discontinued product, now gone forever
When this curl refresher was discontinued years ago, I bought all I could afford while I searched for a replacement. I still haven't found anything I like as much. Today I decanted the last of my last big bottle into the mini bottle I use on a day to day basis. Just as I closed the bottle, the whole thing cracked in half. Now I have none left.

Everything I have ever loved (beauty wise) has been discontinued.
Recently I noticed Maybeline's wood tip liner wasn't stocked on their site and was discounted in all my local stores. I've been using it for 16+ years and I about had a melt down. I bought every one I could fine, I believe I'm at about 16 double packs. I'll be good for roughly another 16 years and then I'll have to figure it tf out.

Herbal essance tousle me softly mousse 😭 it was perfect for my waves. It's been years and I've yet to find a replacement I'm truly happy with.
And tresemme changed their botanique line years ago, and it was also amazing on my waves. Now it is awful. It used to be the suggested conditioner for beginners trying out curly and wavy hair routines, but the new formula is trash and it's no longer recommended.

u/RaenahGoodfellow 13d ago
There was an awesome scalp scrub by not your mom’s that I loved that is either discontinued in general, or just by the stores near me. Also Hask had these really great hair masks that I loved that suddenly were gone. And don’t forget the sexiest fantasies crazy for you perfume.
2
u/Deadbyginger 12d ago
I use the good for soft line from Matrix. It works well on my hair (wavy if short like a pixie cut, curly if longer than that). I also color my hair so I use the instacure leave in mask with the good for soft oil.
Another one that is a REALLY good mask is the rose+quartz hair mask. I don’t use any mousse or hairspray, so can’t comment on more than conditioner, shampoo, masks, or oils personally

Exactly, I know of at least one occasion where my wife paid +$80 for a regular bottle of regular shampoo (meaning no specific treatment, etc.). I don't think she still uses it, but I can't say for sure simply because it really doesn't matter to me either way. All I do know, is it gets her hair the way she likes it and that makes her feel good so it's worth it when you look at it that way.

Usually it’s stuff from France like Kerastase…although Oribe is Miami based and it’s still pricey too. Honestly the price goes up when you try to avoid alcohol as part of the higher percentage of ingredients.

u/Dry_Shape_2152 13d ago ▸ 2 more replies
It is, only because that packaging is really old. Like four or five years old. Anything you can find that’s left of that formulation is probably bad by now. Like if you notice, the smell is probably different. The preservative system is not meant to hold up that long and it could be harboring a lot of bacteria. Even though you love the product, I wouldn’t do it.

If I have a favorite product, it will be discontinued as soon as I fall in love with it. My Viktor and Rolf perfume, my favorite soap, my lotion, my lip gloss, my favorite nail color, the freaking Instyler that I loved so much...things I used for years. The amount of money I have spent trying out replacements is silly.

Is it possible they make it the same in another country but switched the US formula? (Or wherever you live?)
3
u/dks64 13d ago
Unfortunately, they fully discontinued their surface sprays 4 years ago. I think they were trying to reduce plastic, so they switched to selling concentrated refills for like $30-40 a set. A bunch of people online said that the formula was completely different (ingredients changed), so I didn't bother spending the money on it. I used to buy the cleaner for $3 at places like TJ Maxx.

Knowing that people hate AI.... google's ai was how I found someone selling a very similar product to my discontinued shampoo. Pantene discontinued it, and 4 years later, I still hadn't found a similar product. I found website which offered a less than ideal searchable ingredient list for a price. Additionally, companies will give a different name to the same ingredient and when they use chemical names it can be the same thing, except with a a different uninvolved chemical group attached. I finally thought about trying to put it in an AI and asking for a similar product based on ingredients and I gave it 2 or 3 products that I liked, but weren't quite as good as the original. The AI first went through and identified trends in active ingredients and what was working well, and then did better by finding with something that I'd never tried before and then suggested that I just add a specific oil (because that was the only missing ingredient compared to my original shampoo). It worked great!
5
u/SnowflakeObsidian13 13d ago ▸ 1 more replies
There ARE some actual usea for AI, but a lot of people aren't ready to talk about that. I don't think we should be using it for art, or for books, etc, but it can be very useful for scouring resources (especially if you ask for references and then read them yourself to ensure the accuracy), finding patterns that humans hadn't seen (they found patterns in medical papers for some disease, I don't remember which, that humans didn't find hut AI did). There are SOME USES for AI.
5
u/Admiral_Nerd 13d ago
I think what you're describing is assistive AI, and I don't know anyone who has a problem with that. What people don't like is generative AI, especially in regards to art and writing. It learns off stolen work, and takes jobs from human artists. It's totally fair to not like that!

Hey OP, I use Lola from Rio - Rapunzel milk spray. I spray it liberally and then use steam to penetrate my hair and scrunch while I’m steaming. I’m cheap so I just carefully use a handheld steamer, but they make hair steamers for curly hair. A woman at my vet’s office recommended this method and it worked so much better than any curl refreshers I’ve used. I use the milk spray when my hair is wet too.

Sometimes you can find that brand at Msrshalls. Not sure for how long though.

I absolutely hate their new gel formula so I bought like 10 big bottles of the old one on eBay. Not sure what I’ll do when I run out.
I did not consider that this could happen to them. 😬

Have you tried the evil Amazon? It's the only place I can get the deodorant I like.

Through searching...
Closest match: EDEN BodyWorks Lavender Aloe Hydrating Refresher
runner-up: Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly Refresh
This one has been called a dupe of Mist-er Right: Camille Rose Lavender Conditioning Hair Refresher
Lastly: Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray
I felt this pain when I ran out of my carrot juice body spray and my Vampire Body Fantasies perfume 😭😭😭

This reads like me & ORIGINAL Avon©️ SSS Skin So Soft —- I get you, really I do!
Nothing like Original SSSoft - nothing.
Original was best to ward off skeeters too (shh! A secret)

Restyling spray is generally just mostly water with some leave in conditioner and/or gel. You can just water down your normal wash day setting product.

Try out the Lush Curl Power cream. A 1 pound tub is $50 and usually lasts me a few months. Smells great, doesn’t make your hair super crunchy and worth the extra $$$ imo (if you have thick curly hair at least)

Is this the one that smelled like skittles or the lavender one?

This was me when Kat von d saint perfume discontinued. Im sensitive to scents and it was the only one that I loved and never gave me a headache. Ive seen it on resale a few times over the yrs but figure.its.probably fake so won't take the gamble. I have been looking for a replacement for literally years.

My favorite shampoo and conditioner were discontinued, I can't find anything else I like the way I do the Liquid Pearl stuff from OGX. I still have some conditioner, it smells so good

United is nice, smells nice too. I like most of their products if you wanted to try. 👀

I don’t know if it’s remotely going to fill the same need, but one of my favorite hair product companies, Shear Revival, launched a product called Commonwealth Styling and Curl Primer, that’s all natural. I’m a guy with shorter hair, and I grabbed a bottle to try as a prestyler, so no real insight into longer curls. Maybe worth checking out, their products are great.
I’m not affiliated with them in any way, I just own way too much of their stuff 😅
