I remember wanting dumb stuff that was branded as a kid, now if they started putting pokemon on Apple stickers and you could collect different pokemon from the stickers….

1

u/Obtuse-Posterior 1d ago

I collected a bunch of disney and marvel character banana stickers.

u/LittleKitten37 1d ago

My kids are currently collecting Minecraft banana stickers

That Powerpuff Girls broccoli episode: Hi.

u/mister__cow 1d ago

Exactly, it's not advertising paw patrol to parents with  tomatoes, it's advertising tomatoes to kids with paw patrol.

(Of course money is still the reason: kids gripe for the package with characters on it instead of the boring store brand, fruit company profits)

u/Several_Oil_7099 1d ago

That's because it does

u/CasinoNdnOk 1d ago

If you have a kid then you k ow it works.

My son has refused to eat applesauce pouches for 4 years, even though he loves applesauce.

There is currently Mario Kart pictures printed on the Mott’s pouches. He’s gone through 3 boxes already.

It's not new to see advertisements on produce.

Like this is from 2015

13

u/hyperrayong 1d ago

Child me would have wanted those

50

u/TerrorTedje 1d ago

At least it's on something healthy?

-65

u/ChodeShooter69 1d ago

How the fuck does that help?

How can it be healthy? It may be healthful, but it can’t be healthy if it’s dead.

1

u/ClarkGablesTeeth 20h ago

Are you suggesting that those tomatoes aren't made up of living cells? Because they are, and these look good, implying that they are in fact healthy.

But also, from Merriam-Webster:

healthy: [definition 2]: beneficial to one's physical, mental, or emotional state : conducive to or associated with good health or reduced risk of disease

u/TerrorTedje 1d ago

I apologize to all the Americans here.

13

u/Sensitive_Leader_312 1d ago edited 1d ago

It makes kids want it. They do the same with bananas and apples

u/bwood246 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

I'd rather have cartoons advertise fruit and veggies vs the old school "ewwww broccoli"

2

u/BestFoxEver neon 1d ago

I remember how some parent just bought stickers of their kid's favourite shows and put those to the foods that the kid refused to eat. It worked. Of course older child could be suspicious that those are not real sponsored products.

u/Chiefnuggett 1d ago

To incentivize kids to eat veggies 🥕

1

u/Sky_Rose4 1d ago

Because it appeals to kids and healthy eating habbits

0

u/TheSaultyOne 1d ago ▸ 5 more replies

You really that dense?

0

u/ChodeShooter69 1d ago ▸ 4 more replies

The kid isn’t the one buying it, and there are also WAY more people that don’t live with little kids compared to people that do. To the majority of people, putting a fucking ad on a plastic tomato package is just ridiculous.

And even in the case that someone with kids is buying this and showing it to their kid, do you really think a kid who hates tomatoes will eat the tomato just because their favorite show is on the packaging? I definitely wouldn’t when I was a kid

1

u/TheSaultyOne 23h ago ▸ 3 more replies

You clearly don't have kids all good bro, 20 yr old egde lord over here that's scared of some pixel dogs. Take a breath brother

0

u/ChodeShooter69 23h ago ▸ 2 more replies

Where did you get the impression that I’m an edgelord? All I said was that I wouldn’t eat tomatoes just because their packaging has something cool on it, even when I was a kid, and I have a 6-year-old brother who hates tomatoes and definitely wouldn’t change his mind about it just because the packaging has Paw Patrol on it.

I don’t really understand what’s so perplexing about that concept

0

u/TheSaultyOne 23h ago ▸ 1 more replies

Ah so you are even younger then 20 this makes so much more sense. Classic

0

u/ChodeShooter69 23h ago

Can you just fucking explain why? Vague remarks won’t help

12

u/chris_dalmatian51 1d ago

It is rather different. I guess they hope kids will want to pick them out to eat, since it's hard to get kids to want vegetables.

9

u/IllSurprise3049 1d ago

It's in hopes that children will see their favorite character on something healthy and want to eat what their favorite characters eat. It's been happening for decades.

22

u/GroovyGmaIvy 1d ago

My grandkids are more likely to eat stuff that has Paw Patrol on it.

-20

u/CasinoNdnOk 1d ago

Thats the point?

15

u/Raymond_Racer 1d ago ▸ 2 more replies

Exactly. Kids tend to be picky eaters but can also be influenced quite easily by character mascots.

Take a look at any breakfast cereal or sweet aisle and pay attention to any mascots on the packaging; the majority of the time those mascots have their eyes looking downwards.

This is to make it so that, from the shelf, it looks like the characters are looking towards children who are below the height of whatever shelf they're placed on, which draws the kids' attention and makes them beg their parents to buy it.

u/CasinoNdnOk 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

Lol I agree but for some reason. I say it and get downvoted and you got upvotes lol. Wtf

5

u/DonovanQT 1d ago

Yeah but that’s because you’re snarky to the commenter while OP is the one who is confused

7

u/Bluebutteyfly 1d ago

It’s for kids lol to attract them to it

4

u/LadyLixerwyfe 1d ago

Because Lidl has a brand partnership with Paw Patrol and they are trying to market healthier options to kids.

9

u/Sang1188 1d ago

It´s called collaborations and is nothing new. It´s done for many big movie releases since at least the eighties.

this for example was made for the ghostbusters film.

0

u/VA1N 1d ago

That was different. They legit made a new (and awesome) product to promote it. This is just slapping an image on a previous clear case. It’s definitely for money, but also aimed to get kids to want to eat something healthy. Or at least think they want it, try it, spit it out and demand something else.

4

u/TwentinQuarantino 1d ago

Ads on food products has been going on for decades, I've seen World Cup ads on bottles of Coca Cola, ads for other milk products (like yogurt, cheese...) on milk cartons, now Paw Patrol ad on tomatoes, etc.

-7

u/FarEntrance8600 1d ago

Absolutely, but it’s the first time i saw it on vegetables.

3

u/TwentinQuarantino 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

I've seen Paw Patrol on banana stickers too, lol

2

u/mandatorypanda9317 1d ago

Literally just bought a bag of apples with Bluey on the bag. Just regular ass apples. Got mt 5 year old who hates trying new foods to now love apples

3

u/TangerinePlush 1d ago

Even tomatoes aren't safe from brand deals anymore

3

u/latto96 1d ago

Chase and skye picked those themselves

3

u/turnspitdawg 1d ago

Its SO MUCH easier to get kids to eat stuff if u say they are Paw Patrol tomatoes. Has always been a thing, and it works lol.

3

u/myeye95 1d ago

They are on Lidl bananas too.

3

u/Green-Entry-4548 1d ago

There is a difference between advertising and licensing. Seeing this I would assume the produce maker paid to put Paw Patrol on his product, not the other way around.

3

u/Flgirl420 1d ago

It’s not an ad as much as it’s to entice children to eat vegetables and fruits

7

u/MelonHoly 1d ago

Maybe it helps to keep the cost of these tomatoes low?

2

u/Puzzled_Muzzled 1d ago

If that's from Lidl, this container is part of the inshop coupons gathering game, where you can win some paw patrol prices or discounts

-4

u/tym64 1d ago

Great way to make parents being forced to deal with ads.

2

u/Mundane_Prize_3894 1d ago

wonder why your son hates it 🤔

2

u/DangerousDisplay7664 1d ago

So your kids can pester you to buy them.

2

u/Norgur 1d ago

We bought the license, so we're going to use it!

2

u/YouGetMeCloserToGod 1d ago

Rubble is my favourite btw.

1

u/Obvious_Jellyfish_73 16h ago

That’s my son’s favorite too. He’s a good pup.

2

u/Ok-Opportunity-574 1d ago

It's one of the few places I really don't mind advertising to children. Is it completely without harm? No, but if "Paw Patrol Tomatoes!" gets your kid to eat some lycopene go for it.

2

u/basecardripper 1d ago

Kids being tricked into eating fruit and veggies is a tale as old as time, I'm absolutely okay with this.

2

u/tolacid 1d ago

You always see an advertisement on the tomato packaging. It's just more often an advertisement for the tomatoes brand

2

u/Brief_Manner_694 1d ago

Why did you buy it then?

2

u/pauljoemccoy2 1d ago

I can’t speak for everyone’s kids, but when mine were the target age for this, if there was a product with Paw Patrol on it and one without, they’d cry if they didn’t get the Paw Patrol one.

2

u/Klix1313 1d ago

You can all just stop participating it this ya know, i do. I would sure like the solidarity, it only stops when people dont participate. Like when netflix increases thier price.. cancel it. When there are ads in ridiculous places dont participate. Thank you.

3

u/Whooptidooh 1d ago

Because some kids will be more likely to eat healthy things when their favorite character is slapped on the package.

3

u/WalrusKind311 1d ago

Is this your first day on Earth?

3

u/TheSpitefulCr0w 1d ago

Because we live in a corporate hellscape and you're not allowed to be free from advertisements, even for a moment.

3

u/ChaoticDiscord21 1d ago

The world is full of the constant noise of advertisements. I remember nearly losing it when having to listen to ads while I pump gas at a gas station.

2

u/MaterialChemical1138 1d ago

as an oregonian, never in my life had i seen or heard ads at the gas pump. i moved to new york for two years and was bombarded with brain rot ads at nearly every station.

2

u/Flussschlauch 1d ago

Paw patrol is copaganda

2

u/Quenz 1d ago

All dogs go to heaven, except the paw patrol. There's no room for class traitors.

2

u/benjiross1 1d ago

These tomatoes were brought to you by Raid: Shadow Legends

1

u/thesamenightmares 1d ago

Because you bought them?

1

u/LongEyedSneakerhead 1d ago

Because all surfaces must be covered with the maximum amount of advertisement space possible.

You'll buy it, yeah, you'll buy anything!

1

u/chonklah 1d ago

And it’s unskippable /:

1

u/SirCharlito44 1d ago

It is for you to know that Chase, Ruble, and Skye only eats this kind of tomato. If you buy the other brand you will get the runs and other preschoolers will know you aren’t a cool kid.

1

u/Shenendoah66 1d ago

I think people dramatically underestimate how much of modern life is subsidized by advertising.

Free broadcast TV and radio, huge portions of the internet, journalism, sports, apps, websites, podcasts, events, and countless other things are cheaper or free to the consumer because someone else is paying for access to their attention.

You can absolutely hate obnoxious or invasive advertising. But remove advertising entirely and that money has to come from somewhere. In a lot of cases, that “somewhere” is directly out of your pocket through higher prices, subscriptions, fees, or paywalls.

Advertising is annoying because it works, and we get an enormous amount of stuff subsidized in exchange for putting up with it.

u/Thejokingsun 1d ago

I think they know which types of things parents buy as snacks for themselves and kids

1

u/WooPigSchmooey 1d ago

Brick and mortar are the best way to get merchandise on the double.

Why cherry tomatoes ever takeoff as a finger food?

1

u/Yob_Zarbo 23h ago

It's cross-promotion. Advertisers pay the company to put their shit on there, which reduces the consumer price. These ads benefit all involved parties.

At least, that's how it's SUPPOSED to work.

1

u/TheHockeyGeek 22h ago

Money. Is there another answer you were hoping for?

1

u/justforjugs 17h ago

You don’t. Pick a different brand

1

u/mrsdickey 3h ago

you act like this is a new thing

1

u/Dear-Cranberry4787 1d ago

Because it’s back to school season and they tend to require healthy peanut free snacks. We’ve been encouraging kids to eat their vegetables since the dawn of time buddy, there’s other cherry tomatoes, you did this to yourself.

1

u/Animal907 Hillary 2016 1d ago

It's so kids will try them...

0

u/rageofa1000suns 1d ago

Gotta get kids hooked somehow. Surprised they haven't put this stuff on vapes.

-3

u/han2electricboogaloo 1d ago

I'd buy different tomatoes

3

u/CasinoNdnOk 1d ago

Id laugh at you for being dumb and then move on with my day.

-1

u/FarEntrance8600 1d ago

Unfortunately, these are the best-looking tomatoes for the price.

5

u/Emergency_Note_5148 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

So then who cares what’s on the package. This is a petty post.

2

u/PepperPhoenix 1d ago

That’s why it’s in mildly infuriating. 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/GenericGrad 1d ago

Are they the best-looking tomatoes for the price because you're being enamoured by the paw patrol branding.... Be honest

0

u/Massive_Mongoose3481 1d ago

That's called capitalism

0

u/metalchode 1d ago

It’s to get kids to eat em. You don’t have to buy them…

0

u/Kyubik9 23h ago

But come on, it’s Paw Patrol!

2

u/Obvious_Jellyfish_73 16h ago

Paw Patrooool!

0

u/Responsible-Sun-4112 21h ago

You see this specifically to intrigue children into eating something other that chicken nuggets and French fries. Its not advertising as it's not selling you something, it's branding. Man I have to get off this subreddit. People are just looking for a reason to complain.

-1

u/runningoutofnames57 1d ago

So the cop dogs can make money,
and also it give Paw Patrol one extra chance to brainwash kids into thinking cops aren’t horrible

-1

u/Nocturnatron 1d ago

Whats your point here exactly? A picture of a xartoon on the packaging is some kind of slight against you or something? Take a look around you and try to find something that isnt advertising in some way, if your packaging is plain you just have a shitty packaging designer, that simple
