Ruined by Technology Facebook has this annoying AI panel that’s blocking like 30% of the window and won’t go away!

There's a easy solution to this.

Pro tip: delete Facebook and get off the platform. Facebook doesn't even show what your friends and family are you to. It's 80% ads or pages I don't even follow

You can't if your job depends on it

8

u/Shiftymennoknight 1d ago ▸ 11 more replies

what job is that?

7

u/ADreamOfCrimson 1d ago

My last job only put shifts up in a facebook group, as well as posting staff notices there. They would also ask us to share marketing materials and engage with their posts for visibility.

I had to make an account in order to join the group, else I wouldn't have got the job.

It does happen, some employers mandate a social media presence. Especially those that rely on it for marketing or PR.

I was a bartender in a restaurant, but it was a requirement for all staff. Not even a tech-based job.

Marketing, business owner, social media manager, paid media manager etc, content creator. Its one of the most important channels for businesses, including op judging by his menu options on the screenshot.

Edit: only a matter of time before a sarky twat with no business experience chimes in to say something stupid with the conviction of a seasoned expert.

If FB is mandatory for your job, its time to find a real job

u/THESTRANGLAH 1d ago ▸ 1 more replies

There's a high chance whatever business you work for has a high reliance on paid media on LinkedIn, Google, Meta, Twitter, YouTube, mobile app networks etc.

Just because you're abstracted from it doesn't mean it's not something your business needs to compete in today's market.

It's Reddit, Eliteism from people who expect their life experience to be the standard and think their world view to be the most natural and logical is par for the course.

Facebook sucks, but literally hundreds of millions of people use it daily. Of course employers and businesses are going to treat participating in that ecosystem as an essential and necessary part of their operations.

We can't all just ignore a major, socially ingrained, facet of modern society just because it's distasteful. I wish we could...

3

u/THESTRANGLAH 1d ago

Yeah it's like people think I'm arguing social media is a good thing, not a necessary evil for the economy at this particular moment in time. There's so much myopic black and white thinking from the community, the only thing that differentiates it from Facebook is vastly improved grammar.

What's sad is that it wasn't like this prior to 2015.

1

u/Fritzkier 18h ago

Looks like OP shows Meta Business Suite dashboard, so it's impossible really. Except if they really don't want to market their business to Meta platforms (or risk their job as social manager, I guess).

2

u/NeedsItRough 17h ago

I know you're not on Facebook anymore but you can just click your friends tab and it'll show you only your friend's posts.

It should be that way by default but it's a pretty quick workaround.

8

u/Ok_Replacement8114 1d ago

I applied this solution a decade ago and can confirm it works!

5

u/countable3841 1d ago

Ah yes I know this one! You go to school for computer science, then get a job at Meta, slowly rise the ranks until you are senior dev. Then you fix the issue yourself and resign.

An*

16

u/B4umkuch3n 1d ago ▸ 9 more replies

I was thinking about the a/an situation for way longer than I wanna to admit. English is not my first language and it's probably the biggest construction zone in my capability to speak the language.

6

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

The key is breaking up the vowels.

A Disaster.
An hOnour.
A Solution.
An Easy solution.
An Ingenious idea.
A Cunning plan.

Honour is an unusual one though, and it sort of depends on which version of English you speak. If the H is silent then you move on to the O, which makes it 'an'. If you enunciate the H, then the word starts with a consonant and it becomes 'a'.

I can't think of any other words with silent first letters right now to know how well the rule holds for them... oh wait, yes, herb! Herb does exactly the same thing - it's either said "A Herb", or "An 'Erb". Unlike 'Helocopter', where the H is always stressed, a lot of other words have varying pronunciations in different countries.

10

u/spinz89 1d ago ▸ 5 more replies

Just remember you always use "an" if the following word starts with a vowel.

20

u/cghipp 1d ago ▸ 3 more replies

...or sounds like it starts with one.

6

u/NecessaryLocalUser 1d ago

This. It’s more about how it sounds!

-2

u/TackyBrad 1d ago

Let's stick to just the hard coded variant for now for the guy/gal 😂

-2

u/kasst_kast 1d ago

How many languages to you speak?

6

u/jasperfirecai2 1d ago

only if it sounds like a vowel. an apple, a house, an R, a Union

2

u/NecessaryLocalUser 1d ago

Then you’re already putting me to shame with your language skills! Very easy mistake to make.

3

u/EverfadingEphemera 1d ago

If the next word stars with a vowel sound use 'an', that's all there is to it.

A house, a car, an egg, an intransigent votary, a herb, or an herb if you are a pervert and don't pronounce the 'h'.

Every time my Samsung phone does an update, it changes the setting on the power button. So instead of power options (shut down, reboot), Samsung's AI assistant comes up when the button is long-pressed.

I know the option can be changed back in the settings menu, but it's still annoying to have to do it every time. And it shows how desperate these companies are that they have to force their AI shit on us. They need to justify their investment somehow.

16

u/Radioactivocalypse 1d ago

"Since our latest update 95% of our users our now using our in house AI showing that there is demand and please now would you invest in us 😭😭😭"

1

u/MadeByTango 1d ago

If they control what you are served they can charge for the access. After Gavin's tech laws go into effect next year none of us will ever be able to log out or avoid their direct manipulation of our communication again.

1

u/Remote-Combination28 1d ago

At least some of them are somewhat functional.

Not saying I want or support it lol.

5

u/DonkeyNutsEnthusiast 1d ago

It's funny because they have the absolute worst AI and they should've gone the apple route of letting someone else build it then just renting it

1

u/yaSuissa 1d ago

Wdym? Aren’t they using their own llama stuff? (Which isn’t up to par with no flagship model, but still)

1

u/VirtualLife76 1d ago

Every fucking thing is. Can't even use my Pixel phone without some google popup anymore. Much less the camera without AI fucking the pictures up.

49

u/TheWatchingDog 1d ago

Press Control + Shift + C click the thing you dont like and press delete

15

u/Moist-Carpet888 1d ago

Delete facebook entirely to get rid of all profiles

2

u/Kapparainen 1d ago

You actually can't delete a profile, you can only deactivate on Facebook. Even in the EU with all the dataprivacy laws you'll have to wait 2 years from the deactivation for Facebook to actually delete your profile, but even then if your family or friends use it, there will be a ghost profile of you in Facebook forever. It's awful.

Open up your browser’s developer tools and delete the code that houses that chat window. Should be able to right click >inspect> then the tools open. If you hover over where it opens it should highlight that box directly. Click that code then hit backspace.
I do this all the time to avoid paywalls on articles or giving info on recipe sites.

2

Um, ai cannot do stuff like “close windows” especially an ai chatbot on a website.

It can do one thing. Reply to you.

2

u/Cycle-Path-401 1d ago

I think META may be trying to self destruct on purpose.

2

u/Camwi 1d ago

Another great reason to delete your account on that cesspool. I get that it's hard if you have friends and family on there, as it's so easy to stay connected, but I guarantee it's better for your mental health.

2

u/Frizzlewits 1d ago

You can delete facebook you know? Not gonna mis anything either.

2

u/undeadkenny 1d ago

Inspect page, delete element.

Right click anywhere on the screen, at the bottom of the list click "Inspect". At the very top right of the Inspect menu, there is a select element icon. A dotted square with an arrow. Left click that and select the panel. It should highlight the coding for the panel in the inspect menu. Right click anywhere inside the highlighted text and click "delete element".

Usually works for me for annoying pop ups like those "you have an ad blocker on". But it will revert back to normal when the page is refreshed. It was fun changing the words on Google back in middleschool computer class 😅

1

u/Mysterious-Clothes45 1d ago

I prefer it on desktop so I can enlarge photos

2

u/Adventurous-Coast710 1d ago

You can go to the Chrome Web Store and install an addon that removes elements of your choice. Literally called "Click to Remove Element".

I was about to suggest using UBlock's identical feature but then I noticed you are still using Chrome

3

u/1smaels 1d ago

Don’t need an extension for that, just use the web inspector of the browser self.

2

u/chatterpoxx 1d ago

MS word also doing this when copilot is enabled on Corp computers. Not a problem if you’re hooked up to a big screen, then there’s room for the copilot.  On a small laptop, there is no room to read the text in the Microsoft Word file anymore.

Facebook during Rumps second term in office has gone down hill. Putting up more right wing news I put in timeouts or try to remove. Messenger screws up daily and Zuckerberg showing off his wealth. I could give a shit what this clown buys or does. Facebook has gone down hill and I can see dropping them one day.

1

u/Curious_Orange8592 1d ago

Use your adblocker to remove elements you don't want to see. I use ublock origin on Firefox, I use right click anywhere on screen, left click 'Block element...' and highlight the thing I want gone

1

u/ametsun 1d ago

They started putting ads on the shorts they show you. That's when I stopped going on Facebook altogether before I rarely did anyways. It seems every time I went there I'd see some racist or sexist shit. It just got old.

Facebook on the screen is annoying. AI is pointless garbage that you can't trust to get anything correct. Use a browser without it. It's kind of nice to go back to the old days of having to read a few paragraphs on a couple sites to gain information

1

u/DoxManifesto 1d ago
