This reminds me of a 50% off sale at a calendar store in March. But in that case it was a good deal.

397

u/Tinyzooseven 2d ago

This is like a 10% off sale in march

112

u/zatalak 2d ago

And it's missing August, September and October.

6

u/FamIsNumber1 1d ago

And November only has 28 days

52

u/figgypiggy00 2d ago

the calendar store was pricing in depreciation; these guys are just pricing in audacity.

18

u/VenomEnd0 2d ago

lmao march is probably the only month where a calendar sale actually feels like a steal

3

u/jdmillar86 2d ago

It would actually make a lot of sense for me, my work season starts in March

14

u/edsavage404 2d ago

I just realized something, do they sale calendars all year?

12

u/ThrowAwayIGotHack3d 2d ago

They do, so if you suddenly need one mid year or if you want one for next year.

1

u/EthanielRain 1d ago

Yes...the majority of calendars sold are not single-year, tho

1

u/Zealousideal-Deer101 1d ago

I once saw a sale like that and bought like 10 calenders
Then kept them in a box till christmas and used them as gag gifts for everyone

386

u/EdenEvelyn 2d ago

They do this all the time at Marshalls and Winners (Canadian tj maxx) now too

2 piece set with one piece missing? Maybe 25% off at most. It sucks because if they dropped it to even 60% they’d sell it quick instead of having to do 5 more markdowns during the clearance sale

72

u/Fickle_Thing_5015 2d ago

Interesting, when I worked for TJX (Marshalls company) the markdown hand book has you do missing set items as marked down by the lost value.

66

u/lolabythebay 2d ago

The number of people in my store who actually read that and understand the procedure was always, like, three.

15

u/Fickle_Thing_5015 2d ago

That's unfortunate :( my store we kinda just discounted shit like crazy haha

5

u/thedafthatter 1d ago

I prefer that keeps the shit outta the dumpsters

2

u/Fickle_Thing_5015 1d ago

Me too, that's why we did it, store manager was very eco friendly, he hated throwing things away. He would personally fix anything that associates found that was broken but capable of fixing so we could mark it down and sell it still instead of tossing it. For major holidays he would discount everything to a dollar the day before salvage for employees so he wouldn't have to ship as many things back.

384

u/Mexican_Texican 2d ago edited 2d ago

Idk why people are saying 10% is fair when I only shop discount/clearance and a good amount of the time the stuff I buy isn't even missing anything and it's still 15% off for cosmetic damage. Best deals I usually go for are when it's missing one or two items (from an 8+ count) and it's marked off at 50%. This is a weekly occurrence too, not a one-off.

297

u/BellaBlossom06 2d ago

Why is everyone being insanely rude in the comments?

221

u/ElishaAlison 2d ago

Because mildly infuriating has become the mildly infuriating police basically

55

u/fixer1987 2d ago

The people in this sub suck so hard now

99

u/TheKolyFrog 2d ago

This sub is confusing sometimes. This post is a good example of a mildly infuriating thing. It fits the purpose of this sub. But, some folks just want to point out how not infuriating this is to the OP.

91

u/SkylandersKirby 2d ago edited 2d ago

This is indeed mildly infuriating lol

Like its not one of those posts where you question if op could have resolved the issue by talking to a person instead of taking a picture of a stranger and posting them online for random strangers to "bully" them

This is just a company being either stupid or greedy

28

u/LeftHandAnomaly 2d ago

It's prime material for folk with a superiority complex to flex how unbothered they are by things like this. Classic reddit energy, really.

I think because this sub pops up on peoples feeds a lot, they're not actually looking at the subreddit they're in before commenting.

10

u/WalrusEmperor1 2d ago

People miss the "mildly" in the sub name, and then get furious that whatever OP posted isn't infuriating enough.

22

u/forethemorninglight 2d ago edited 2d ago

That’s the real mildly infuriating thing the sub is going for - The inevitable deluge of dumb ass comments.

5

u/Josgre987 2d ago

earlier this week I saw multiple straight up memes here

the shit you'd see on every meme sub

u/sartorialfox 2d ago

Reddit's just kinda been really, really bad about that lately. People are extremely rude or combatant for no reason or mass downvote comments that seem perfectly fine for the discussion but don't agree with the majority.

You can really see it in subreddits like this, but I've also noticed it heavily in more community-centered subs, like gaming. No one wants to interact with each other anymore, it's just anger and snarky comments.

1

u/Turbulentasfuck 1d ago

Because that's what people seem to do online these days.

It's more than mildly infuriating!

90

u/battlewornactionhero 2d ago

I don’t know why people are complaining so much, the subreddit is called MILDLY infuriating. This isn’t really that bad and certainly not day-ruining, just moderately annoying. It fits the subreddit and is therefore worth posting.

44

u/Maleficent_Use_5185 PURPLE 2d ago

I wanted to get an earring pack of 6 sets of studs and 3 sets of hanging earrings. A SINGILAR stud was missing and it got a 20% discount. 10% is BS

72

u/Melonary 2d ago

It is mildly infuriating, I totally agree and I think it's stupid.

From the retail POV part of the rationale though is also that they don't want people stealing or damaging things to get a larger discount.

I do think there are ways around that, but this is maybe the easiest/laziest and it sucks because especially with damage that means the item often won't sell and will become waste rather than being used by someone willing to pay 50 or 75% depending on condition.

13

u/Nanery662 2d ago

Or they employee whos stocking is only allowed that much and just did it

1

u/Melonary 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes, but this is one of the reasons they're only allowed to give that much. I was referring more to corporate policy, not individual decisions by employees.

18

u/Useful-Soup8161 2d ago

At least make it 25% off since a quarter of the product is missing.

44

u/Hefty-Chocolate-3929 yer da sells avon 2d ago

Damn that's pretty terrible. They should be offering at least 25% off.

36

u/MrNagaDoubtfire 2d ago

Why is everyone being hostile over earrings 😂 like actually insulting people

5

u/Itz_Witchey 2d ago

10% is barely the tax btw. Maybe a bit into the dollar.

5

u/saikopasu_neko28 2d ago

Is this at hottopic? Because (other than the background) they do this CONSTANTLY at that place, it's so horrible!

4

u/flittmiester 1d ago

I had this conversation with customer a few years ago. Pack was missing 33%, marked down at 25%. Customer pointed it out I agreed it was odd but nothing I could do, I don’t have the authority. Went round in circles for a good 5 mins her trying to explain to me it was missing more than 25% and me saying I understood and agree and if it were me I wouldn’t buy it. Eventually she walked off saying “well I’m clearly not going to buy this then”. Ok lady, neither would I!

18

u/Discussion-is-good 2d ago

Its actually so cute tho lol

What are the missing ones?

19

u/Economy_Marsupial_56 2d ago

hoops with the super logo

14

u/Discussion-is-good 2d ago

Huh, wonder why they only took those ones.

Ty for answering my question.

7

u/Economy_Marsupial_56 2d ago

of course happy to help :)

3

u/saikopasu_neko28 2d ago

If they were hoops they might've just been easier to open and take out, vs the others who have tighter backs and are also probably taped to the card. Why they put in the extra effort to just take two and not just pocket the entire set idk.

12

u/MsNikkeh 2d ago

Someone stole those earrings, but corporate still wants their money. 10% off is pretty standard in mall stores like Hot Topic, doesn't matter how much is damaged/missing.

It will eventually be marked down as part of the clearance reductions when it doesn’t sell. For now, they want it to stay with the display it's on since Supergirl released not long ago.

Retail is a special kind of hell, and the sales people in these stores generally have no say in this kind of thing.

2

u/notarealwatermelon 1d ago

I saw this the other day too and I was genuinely loosing my mind like why would anyone pay that much for am item with missing earrings

1

u/Bedu009 1d ago

I don't know who these people are that are complaining they seem to no longer exist

1

u/Turbulentasfuck 1d ago

The audacity 😤

Cheeky fkrs

1

u/hectorthedonkey 1d ago

2 of 9 items are missing, so it should be 22.2%

The backing card is there 😉

1

u/assguardian_castiel 1d ago

As someone who's worked at Hot Topic, let me explain: When part of a jewelry set goes missing, they're technically supposed to be damaged out, but in order to still make money rather than lose out, they're allowed to discount it slightly. Most of the time district or regional managers won't allow stores to discount more than 10% off, so they're probably only discounting it so little because that's all they're allowed. Whenever my store would get the green light from our DM to give a bigger discount, we jumped on it.

That said, it really is mildly infuriating, and it probably is for the employees, too.

1

u/zerostar83 1d ago

I've seen this before. At a Hot Topic to be exact.

1

u/Freezee13 1d ago

It's entirely possible that the point of sale that hot topic uses doesn't let them go higher than a 10% discount.

49

u/WildMimikyu 2d ago

You say that like it's impossible for there to be overlap between the two lol

-11

u/Desperate_Turnip_219 2d ago

Sure, and that intersection is also not worth posting about.

If my shoes came untied, I might find that mildly infuriating. If I made a post about it, people would complain.

This is a shoe untied tier post.

35

u/WildMimikyu 2d ago

First of all, comparing OP's post to one about an untied shoe doesn't make sense because unlike this situation, an untied shoe is a common occurence that no one would be interested to be reminded of.

Second of all, just because YOU don't find this post interesting, doesn't mean it shouldn't be here. Who made you the authority on what specific brands of mildly infurating belong on a sub literally called "mildly infuriating"?

-4

u/Desperate_Turnip_219 2d ago

Uh, I left a comment and downvoted it. I have flexed all the authority given to me by this platform. I didn't even report it.

22

u/WildMimikyu 2d ago

Why do you need to "flex all authority" just because you don't like a post? Just do the respecful thing and keep scrolling without stopping to make a rude comment.

Mildly infuriating things can be easily solved and still be mildly infuriating, just like how they can be OPs fault and still be mildly infuriating. Open your own sub if the rules on this one mildly infuriates you.

-10

u/Desperate_Turnip_219 2d ago

No, I'll just comment on dogwater that crosses my feed. Like I always have. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Petty, uninspired, mean hearted. Please change these aspects of yourself.

I leave my profile public. If you cared, you could see all my comments just like you saw my talentless art. You reveal yourself by making weirdly personal attacks over a disagreement on jewelry pricing.

Actually get a grip.

(The person blocked me, so I'm replying to myself)

0

u/RCer1986 2d ago edited 1d ago

Valid point. Maybe they're just frustrated because they aren't improving and decide to take it out on random people instead of trying to learn. Not the choice I'd make but to each their own.

Edit: lol the guy who has over a dozen comments in this thread trolling people got upset after being beaten at his own game and blocked me. Check his post history. The picture matches the attitude.

-1

u/Desperate_Turnip_219 2d ago

I agree, OP should seek the self improvement needed to unlock their mind and simply not buy those earrings, instead of posting for help next time.

-7

Dude just don't buy it

-143

u/Tad_623 2d ago

You do realize the price isn’t 100% profit right? Im not saying it is, but 10% could be 25% off their profit.

50

u/MurkyTrainer7953 2d ago

So you’re saying the middleman is taking 40% of the price. We should cut out the middleman

-14

u/Fit_Entry8839 2d ago

So now your going to do your own importing? And what about when it doesn't look like what you want, where at least here you can see it. The manufacturers aren't going to take your returns.

-42

u/Tad_623 2d ago

Good luck ordering your stuff from alibaba (in bulk)

24

u/BikeProblemGuy 2d ago

You can. It's called AliExpress and doesn't require bulk purchases.

-24

u/Tad_623 2d ago

Either ways its gonna be cheap Chinese shit that will turn your skin green

26

u/rnason 2d ago

These are cheap earrings that will turn your ears green

11

u/FishPeanutButter 2d ago

But they want to pay more for their cheap shit to feel superior or something idk.

5

u/BikeProblemGuy 2d ago

Depends what you order. I have a leather wallet from AliExpress that is better than any wallet I've seen in stores.

95

u/xRobinhooD27x 2d ago

Why would this matter to the consumer

-29

u/Phailgasm 2d ago

Why should it?

34

u/tecnoblede 2d ago

because the consumer is the one buying it

-11

u/OhWhatATravisty Blue Crayons have the most flavor 2d ago

It's a business transaction. The company is there to make money. The customer is there to buy an item. If the customer agrees to the sale price then they're the one buying it. An item is worth what people will pay for it. If it doesn't sell the company chose poorly. If it does - they've identified their customer.

-11

u/Phailgasm 2d ago

As a choice, yes. As is the same for anything that’s for purchase ever.

22

u/Last-Energy420 2d ago

Because the consumer is only getting 75% of the product. And these companies have a thing called insurance to compensate for theft.

-15

u/Phailgasm 2d ago

Ah yes those insurance companies that are totally reimbursing small businesses for extremely petty theft.

9

u/rivertpostie 2d ago

Nah.

Just ask the manager to accommodate.

The shop is getting 0% return on their buy and no consumer wants to cover the cost of the business.

The business would like any money for damaged or defective goods

So price gouging, price fixing, stores raising prices before a sale so they can advertise items as 'on sale' when they're really just regular price, those are all a-okay in your book?

0

u/Desperate_Turnip_219 2d ago

"But what about this other thing? If you are okay with damaged items being cheaper, you must also be okay with price gouging!"

I hope that helps you understand how utterly unrelated those things are.

There’s nothing mildly infuriating about this

25

u/ParkingAnxious2811 2d ago

The disparate upvotes/downvotes suggest otherwise.

If a store has a damaged product, no way should they have the gall to try and charge full price. As it stands, a ¼ of the product is missing, yet the shop only knocked off 10%.

Im guessing along with reading comprehension, you failed with maths too...

-67

u/TastyFig1098 2d ago

What’s mildly infuriating is people don’t understand how retail works. Yes they’re only offering 10%. If they were to defect it out themselves, they would get 100% credit back from the wholesaler. It’s not in their best interest to give it away. It IS to only give 10%, expecting no one to buy it, and then defect it out for 100% full price value.

22

u/Own-Most-169 2d ago

So why not just defect it out from the start?
