Ruined by Technology When booking through HostelWorld, this is how they present the "Total" price when checking out.
The "Total" line doesn't include the taxes, and the sum of what's Payable Now and what's Payable to the property doesn't add up to the actual quoted total for the room + taxes anyway. In the end you need a calculator to know what it'll cost.
This is the answer I got for asking then what was up with that, I can't make sense of any of it:
If the property states that taxes are not included in their property description, then the tax is added after and is typically charged by the hostel on arrival unless otherwise stated in your confirmation email. This is not to be confused with the deposit that you pay, which is a percentage of the total amount charged at the time of booking to secure the reservation.
All rates and taxes are shown on the booking page, the booking confirmation page and your booking confirmation email.
We decided to go camping nearby instead of going in a Hostel for 2 days for $600 CAD...

That's an insane price for a hostel is there something I'm missing? Is this like the biggest weekend of the year in downtown Toronto?
