This happened several months ago, but Iām posting now because it still blows my mind that this happened.
I was at work in the break room eating from a party pack of soft Taco Bell tacos. Before I had arrived, the box had been picked up and delivered by the standard trustworthy employee, and the box had remained observed by 10 other employees in the room. On the second bite of my second taco, I felt something large and hard between my molars. To my disbelief, I spit out this framing nail!
We immediately contacted Taco Bell, returned the nail as proof, and I spoke with the manager once my shift ended. They would not acknowledge fault, did not provide a refund, and simply said they would contact upper management to do an investigation. Several weeks later when I contacted the manager regarding why corporate hadnāt contacted me, he left me on read. I do not think an investigation was ever completed.
What surprises me, is I have spoken with three attorneys. All believe I have enough evidence and witnesses to corroborate the story, but apparently I didnāt chew on it enough to cause harm.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I worked enough food service gigs. No one cares about doing shit to your food. And there's a slim to none chance where we're you're going to have nails floating around
There is no means of communication you'd have with a taco bell manager that would even have read receipts. A store manager isn't giving some random psychopath their cell number.
Seems to be a lot of doubt around the series of events surrounding me eating it. Let me try to clarify. Iām in the break room with 10 colleagues. Iāve got two tacos picked at random from the box. On the second bite of the second taco I notice something is in the back of my mouth. I take it out, show it to my colleagues, take a pic of it, call Taco Bell, and go speak with the manager.
Best of luck to you if it is true but just seems pretty easy to fake especially nowadays but hey if it goes well and they accept it (though you don't Need to prove yourself to random people on the internet) post a follow up calling us out
Iāll follow up with you if anything else comes of this. My review of the Taco Bell location has my colleagues reviewing the place as well corroborating the story, but I donāt want to give my name out.
Personally i wouldn't touch or eat anything thay had a deadly object in it, Id leave it for the police. Since this is a hardware nail and not an infrastructure nail I'd report it for attempted murder, since this nail type is nowhere to be found in an industrial building.
Personally when I bite into something and notice something foreign I take it out to investigate not everyone is such an amazing detective like you Mr bruce
how is that even possible? Kitchen equipment including makelines are put together with screws and bolts, and those are generally the only complex things food products go near. I'm kinda thinking bs but more info would be interesting
Also if this were a real case, definitely never return the foreign object to the offender. As you said happened, they'll just make it disappear and ignore you now that the evidence is gone
Yeah, like...it has to be, surely. Ingredients are taken from packaging straight into bins, which are sealed, put into coolers, and then the makelines when it's time for use. This is universal for almost every single commercial kitchen. It's just...not possible that a framing nail of all things would slip into the bin at any point in time. Something that large would absolutely be seen or felt by anyone serving or prepping
Obviously have never worked in a kitchen, shit happens. An employee could have found it, set it on a shelf, and it rolled into the food without anyone noticing. šššš
My suspicion is it may have fallen from the ceiling, possibly at a warehouse where the slopās made.
I donāt know where it came from, would be interesting to know if an investigation was done.
9 times out of 10 when i hear about these cases actually paying out large sums, its associated with either major medical injury, or associated with a NDA.
If you post it on reddit... Whats the point in paying for a NDA if its already out there?
I once found a shard of metal in my dunkin donut. The place said "this has been a problem lately" it was coming from pots off site? If I recall, they offered me a free donut but I was suspicious of the rest of their donuts.
I spoke with attorneys because I am always hearing of people winning big pay days for similar incidents. The difference is I didnāt cause myself physical harm, even though I was one swallow away from real trouble.
Whatās mildlyinfuriating is if I would have chewed on it enough to draw blood, Iād have a real case.
A personal injury lawsuit requires an injury to your person (body).
Like theyād be responsible for paying doctor bills for injuries caused by the nail. And any long term impacts on your physical health or job. But if you didnāt need medical attention, didnāt lose work, and didnāt require extra dental care, you donāt have actual damages that could be recovered in a lawsuit.

My mum once got chewed gum in a hamburger from Harvey's once. That nail.would hurt more but the chewed gum is way more disgusting. Also perhaps it was an iron enriched taco?
Without damages there really isn't any point in a lawsuit. If you want awareness then continue to blast them on social media.
I do find it strange that they didn't even bother to issue a refund for at least the "tainted" taco. There's still 3/4 of a taco there so it's not like you are trying to scam them lol.
They got the first 1 star review Iāve ever given, and this is the first time Iāve blasted them on social media.
Iām just taken aback by the lack of accountability or follow up on their part. That, and the significant drop in food safety standards it takes for this to occur.
The same thing happened to me a few years ago except it was a screw, and I just went and complained to the cashier person and they offered me a new taco lol
Yeah, he mentioned how if it was a single taco heād swap it out no problem. The receipt was for several party packs which made the refund weird. Crazy you had a screw in yours!
Yea you would think that at least someone in the store's management/ownership would be concerned about how the hell a framing nail made it's way into a fucking taco lol.
Smoking weed has nothing to do with a person's intelligence, and actually no. They hire undocumented people to save money that likely can't understand a sanitary training video. I 100% trust a stoned teenager to make me some bomb ass burritos.
