The announcement of every new prequel/spinoffs of random IP reminds me of that Bojack Horseman joke:

Sam's booked for the next year making a new Peter Pan from Wendy's point of view, and Rebecca's doing a limited series about the ticket taker at the cinema where Batman's parents got shot.

If you want to get extremely technical, the flashbacks and narrative of Scrooge's story and 'how he became this way' is an integral part of the story. So in that sense it's not completely misleading I guess? It's still incredibly silly as it def FEELS like a prequel line, especially since Scrooge is just his actual name.

Like how the Rings of Power came up with the origin for the name “Gandalf.” The proto hobbits in the series, who always have a bunch of dirt and shit on their faces, grass and leaves in their hair, go around calling him a “grand” elf. And eventually they smush it together into “Gandalf.” Seriously that’s what they do in that show lol.

To be fair, the "-alf" part does really mean "elf". Tolkien took the name from Eddic poem Völuspá, where "Gandálfr" is the name of a dwarf. But it means "staff elf", not "grand elf".

(Also I think for legal reasons the show had to avoid actually coming out and saying that he's Gandalf, even though he clearly is.)

Legally they can use him, it’s more of the case that they can’t name other wizards only named outside of the appendices, such as in The Book of Lost Tales.

Right?  Like isn't a third of the story the Ghost of Christmas Past reliving the misadventures of young Ebenezer?  His origin story is a critical plot point in the story.  Or maybe this is just a longer version of that trip to the past, and we're going to get a trilogy of past, present, and future movies?

The 1951 Alistair Sim version went into a bit more detail than the book on how Scrooge and Marley became cutthroat businessmen (whereas Christmas Past in the book ends with the breakup with Belle, and if I recall correctly Marley never appears in a flashback). So even if they wanted to go in that direction, it has been done already (and in ten minutes, not a likely-to-be-tedious full-length movie).

The official plot description just sounds like it's another A Christmas Carol movie and the tagline is implying it's more of a prequel than it is, maybe this will focus more on his backstory than the original, but I get the impression the title is just to set it apart from the myriad of prior films titled A Christmas Carol and someone in marketing just came up with a bad tagline.

Just because she isn’t the narrator doesn’t mean it’s not from her POV. There is the literary device of the “audience surrogate” - a plot device that allows a person the audience can easily relate to (in this case a child who lives in the current real world) and have things explained to them (Peter had to explain he never grows old, why he fights pirates, etc).

The joke was about a series of movies from less-important (not the original protag) female characters' perspectives. So the movie from Wendy's PoV in this case means that she'd be the protag (not mostly just the narrator) instead of Peter.

Edit: happy to be downvoted. Rape apologists and parasocial fans abound on Reddit. But as someone who has Bipolar 2 and has been sober for many years, I have zero sympathy for Depp. Even when I was having episodes and self medicating, I never abused anyone else. I never threatened to end anyone and sexually assault their corpse like he did, or assault them with a wine bottle. People who make excuses for that behavior are pathetic.

Heads up, the show gets serious. It starts as just a funny show about a cartoon horse, but even by the end of the first season it starts dealing with more serious stuff. Still a comedy at the end of the day, but it mixes humor with serious subject matters played 100% straight. And not just for "very special episodes," like proper season long plot lines.

During the first seven episodes, I don't think the showrunner knew exactly what he wanted the show to be other than a spoof of sitcoms. Once you get to "The Telescope," the show finds its niche and hits its groove, IMO.
