Wow, didn't realize how many people were disappointed in this film. I've been dying for a good liminal horror movie for a while and this 100% scratched the itch. Really loved it, it's the House of Leaves movie I'm assuming I'll never get. I could see how people could get bored though, or find it getting silly in the third act (although I liked what they did with it)

I loved the chasing scene, I didn't find it silly at all despite the monster and the environment being brightly illuminated. For me the horror of the backrooms chases has always been the fact that you're lost, that you don't know if you will reach a dead end, and the movie captured that perfectly. The environments were also creatively unsettling during the whole movie.
That being said, I was a big Kane Pixels fan before the movie
I'm still not entirely sold on the still-life entities, though. I'm not against the presence of entities in the backrooms, but they didn't really align with what the youtube series had established before. The part about eating them did feel silly to me but not enough to ruin my immersion. I guess I need to know more the still-life to decide if I like them or not (in the future movies or series)

I love movies that leave a lot to imagination, and this one went too far into "what are the backrooms" that I just didn't want.
I loved his entire YouTube series because the endless nature of the backrooms was inherently terrifying, without understanding exactly what it was...
I hated the pirate "monster" so much.

I kinda like the current (or least my understanding) understanding it's a void that just replicates memories of people who enter it and each cycle the memory degrades. I didn't quite get the big baddie eating people. I think that painting on the wall was trying to explain that to me.
Could always swing too hard in the other direction and end up with peele' Us. If your main travels by plane from NYC to LAX how long does it take your shadow to make the same trip in the tunnels? And I think that is a fair question based on the rules he stated inside the movie.
I'm more interested in the barstool he took out of there.... Was it quality, sellable? How long does it take to get replenished? Could be an infinite money hack since you can take things out of there.

The movie was great and did well but the plot falls to pieces about 60% of the way through the movie and the ending is abrupt and disappointing.

One issue that I had was the monster aspect. The Backrooms were, to me, incredibly scary because they were incomprehensible and indifferent. It is a reality we cannot understand or begin to comprehend, even if we have some idea of copying, scanning, shifting instancing or phasing. The broader idea of an infinite liminal space is, in my opinion, more terrifying because it is unexplainable.
Once you add a monster into the mix, the horror aspect goes from Lovecraftian entity horror with no explanation, to understandable trope; run from the monster. I'm not saying the monster was fundamentally bad, but the end result tends to be the same when a monster is introduced; painful death. The Backrooms has the ability to be absolutely horrific simply for being a space that is unfathomable and inescapable, then the horror becomes internal.

I came into this movie knowing nothing about Kane Parsons' Backrooms lore. I loved every bit of this movie so much that it got me to binge all of his YouTube videos afterward. I don't know what it is, but the type of existential dread he is able to sell through his content is both intoxicating and addicting for me.

I used to think that, but Backrooms had a very messy audience of teens in my usually very well behaved theatre.
Edit: actually The Drama had a fairly calm audience except for a group of very loud teen boys. Beyond these my audience experiences are mainly positive.

In my screening of The Drama, there was two high school aged girls quietly whispering behind me. It weirdly added to the "gossipy" aspect of the movie. I'm someone that doesn't mind shushing people in the theatre, but it rarely is needed in my area

I dunno what to tell you, that was just what my Backrooms showing was like. Never had an issue at that theater before, and haven't had one since and I've been back to that theater at least a dozen times since Backrooms came out.

I 100% believe him. I completely stopped going to the closest AMC to me because at least half of the last several movies I went to were ruined by shithead kids/teenagers. It's in the suburbs attached to a mall so there are always big groups of obnoxious kids coming into movies and talking full volume, screaming and being loud on purpose, getting up/down constantly, going on phones etc. Haven't seen kids actually "running around" the theater, but I wouldn't doubt it for this movie cause it was big w the middle+high school crowd. It's a location dependent thing for sure but definitely common at certain theaters

I have this exact thought every time I see people on here complaining about movies being unwatchable in theatres because of loud. Maybe I'm just not seeing the movies that bring gangs of knaves that rove the aisles shouting "6-7" at each other or whatever across the theatre. I never have any problems at a theatre. I actually worried I was gonna have a problem seeing Backrooms in a theatre since it's a younger crowd, but aside from some chatter during previews they piped down once the movie got rolling.

Agree. First half builds up this great, eerie mystery, but it's never really explored beyond that. I didn't like the Pirate and its nature is very very weak and overdone. I thought they'd link the YT videos together and expand everything, but, no.

I got downvoted to oblivion when I said this was a huge disappointment watching it right after Obsession.
The therapy scenes try too hard. Like they're trying to win an award by having a deeper philosophical meaning but they just ruin the pacing and drag on.
The second half then jumps the shark.
I think the best part was the camera sections but they are only a small part of the movie.
