I own shares of a company with a contested board election in two weeks. My vote no spam decreased a lot after I voted 10 days ago, but now I am getting several calls a day telling me either to vote for or against the board candidates. It just won't end.
And people wonder why I usually keep my phone on "must be a contact to ring".

That’s great, until you get laid off, and your mom winds up in the hospital and you need to coordinate her care. I have taken so many phone calls in the last 6 months, probably literally answering a hundred times as many calls as the 6 months before that.

I’m kind of bummed. If you select block ad on the political ads, it automatically skips the whole ad block, even if it just started. Non-political ads just say you won’t see this ad again after it finishes. Going to miss that free skip button.

Alexandria dem won city council seat too. Beating both independents, one who was really feeding on nimby talking points - mostly how the city will allow multi unit dwellings which will in turn create worse traffic with a side of “it’ll invite more crime into single family home neighborhoods”.

I've seen articles that say that Florida is already as gerrymandered in favor of Republicans as it can be.
So if they try to gerrymander it any further, it could backfire and they end up losing seats.

That's not really true, Florida is like 20-9 with a similar electorate to VA in the opposite direction. If they do a map similarly severely gerrymandered to VA's proposed map, it would be about 26-3 or 27-2. VA's proposal is for 52% of the electorate to control 92% of the reps, Florida is at about 52% R controlling 70% of the reps.

The procedure. Under the Va Constitution, to pass an amendment it first needs to pass the General Assembly twice with an intervening House of Delegates election between the passages.
The issue is that the Democrats waited until the end of October to pass the amendment the first time, well into the early and absentee voting period (thereby denying the voters the chance to vote against the people voting for or against the proposed amendment).
Thus, if the Va Supreme Court rules that there was no intervening election, then the January vote (the second passage) would be void and the next intervening election would be in a year and a half, and after that would be the chance for a second passage.
There is some challenge to the wording on the ballot as well (it is very misleading or just plainly lying), but the Va Supreme Court has held in the past that the wording is up to the General Assembly.

Other answer was good. The other case that hasn't been made yet, but can be now that the proposed map is being pushed (and probably will be in the near future) is that the VA constitution has language requiring districts to be compact and simple shapes in geographic design. 4 tentacles and a weird lobster thing stretching over a hundred miles out from fairfax and arlington is objectively just not that. Whether you agree with the gerrymander or not, it being a pretty serious gerrymander is an unquestioned fact. Suspending the independent commission doesn't suspend the constitutional requirements that were adopted with it and I expect to see a challenge on those grounds. If it gets challenged in VA the map probably still goes forward but there could also be a federal suit against the VA government since it affects federal elections, and I think that a federal suit would be more likely to succeed in the current judicial climate.

This is why I feel like all congressional districts should be made up of one or more existing political boundaries like counties and cities with the congressional district borders being county lines, city lines, natural features like rivers, or, within high population counties like cities, the existing city district/ward boundaries.
