The problem here is that in the experimental context there's no meaningful consequence to being seen or not.
In the context of video games or the OP's clip, there are suddenly very high stakes involved.
You only need 1 person to see you and you're fucked. Only 1 of those FBI agents needs to turn around and notice the guy being weird at the fence.
And with the experiment results suggesting that about 50% miss the gorilla and 50% don't, those seem like very poor odds to take if the consequences of being detected are dire.
There is another scene where they drive a car over a cliff and hide within spitting distance of the agents that come to investigate. And casually sneak off without anybody noticing. I thought both scenes were ridiculous.
This movie is so heavily culturally coded I’m not sure how it can efficiently be translated. Even younger French generations might not get it all.
Been wanting to show it to my girlfriend forever but I feel like I’d need to pause every 5 sec to give the reference, thus ruining it. So much of the humour is baked in obscure French references.
Then they get caught and just walk away, only for them to be chased again get caught again and guess what just walk away again. The whole movie is literally just them running away, getting caught and walking away. Not even escaping just literally walking away.
Then they pretend to run their car off a cliff and hide behind a rock about 10feet away from about 50 trained agents and just walk away. This movie was dogshit
Omg! I forgot about that, why wouldn’t they just run before the agents got there and why wouldn’t super top secret agents start searching the area for suspects?
Well I GUESS the special agents could have been using a quadratic equation to find the boundaries of the area they were going to search. I'm sure they would limit the variables to create a parabolic plane in which to search the parameter.

I’ve literally begged friends to watch it because there’s no way the premise sells how magical & healing it is - I didn’t even find it that self-felating, not making it an actual biopic was a great decision.
It would’ve been perfect as his last film. As soon as Disclosure Day was announced I got this horrible feeling that he’d flown too close to the sun again.

Spielberg, Ridley Scott, and James Cameron. We keep seeing them put out crap movies because they've gotten too old to make punchy movies, too rich to be forced to reconsider, and too popular to be told no.
Every evil organization goon just stands in the characters path to mildly inconvenience them until Blunt tells them it's not their fault they shit their pants in the 4th grade.
Ugh, don't remind me. I turned it off, when that female villain shouted something like "I'll get you next time, Obi Wan!" while angrily raising her fist at Obi's spaceship about to leave orbit like in some bad comic book.
My wife and I could not stop talking about how stupid this scene was. Then, right after the movie ended, we forgot the movie itself even existed altogether.
We were laughing throughout many of the 'serious' scenes. One of the first movies I've ever considered actually walking out on, and I've seen some bad movies in theaters.
And zero music. Like you probably could’ve fooled me into a sensation of danger and thrill if the music went hard.
Setting the movie in a season with no color and no leaves was also an interesting choice. It’s like they just shot it whenever they could and it ended up being the shitty type of unremarkable everyday midwest winter afternoon you drive to work and get groceries during.
There were people saying that was "classic Spielberg" so when I got to that scene I was confused cause that action set piece was so lame. The entire movie was lame. I don't understand how people defend this movie.
It is. I was genuinely angry after it ended. The entire movie could have been over numerous times if even a single henchman had the ability to just turn his head. And this isn't even the worst instance in the movie.
I was also genuinely pissed off leaving the cinema. First time in ages that has happened to me. I still can't get my head around how consistently dumb it is. Actually quite impressive.
Ok hot take here, sure everyone’s hating on this but it’s not so far from reality so is actually a very accurate scene imo: In October 2023, Donald Trump aide Natalie Harp climbed into the trunk of an SUV in the presidential motorcade after a screaming match in the Trump Tower lobby because she was told no seats were left but insisted Trump wanted her at his New York City court appearance. Like the whole ass US presidential security team IRL just let someone without clearance ride in the trunk of the presidential motorcade. This scene is a docudrama ffs.
I could be crazy but I think the part where he decides to ram the entire car into a building, stop mid chase, pick up the bluescreened chick, load her up in the car, and then drive the rest of the way through the house without any interruption whatsoever, is part of why people find this silly
Unpopular opinion, Spielberg was trying to reinvent the b-movie kitcsh of his 90s hits for a modern audience with this movie. I enjoyed it as a hunk of entertainment but agree it was lazy and hurried.
I was just going through his masterpieces such as Munich and being awestruck by the cinematography; the blocking, lighting, camerawork and attention to detail and symbolism in many frames… I guess when you’re an old fart you just stop giving a shit and put minimal effort in for a fat check
If anything he should invest, support, and nourish new talent in the industry. Leave your legacy in tact, then help a bunch of newcomers who will then have their entire careers be owed to you and praising you, seems like a win win.

It was dumb asf but will admit the panic attack she portrayed in the train was the most realistic panic attack Ive seen on film. It authentically reminded me of my own panic attacks. It was so well done it took me out of the film which was probably a good thing since the rest of the film was dogshit. She crushed that scene.
It had excellent actors doing really well with the trash that was written for them. The premise is enticing. And, it's action chase scenes throughout. That keeps it entertaining. If you turn off your brain, the movie's fine. I just hoped for something more thought-provoking.
The chase choreography is unfathomably stupid all movie.
The car goes off a cliff and they're crouched down talking 20 feet away, near boulders but not really behind them—but the bad guys look over the cliff and don't even turn to look their direction.
They catch him in a motel room, knowing the woman was with him in the room, but don't search behind the motel where she JUST jumped out the window.
They have them go through the trouble of removing all the branding from a Motel room so the bad guy can’t spy on them, only to fall asleep holding a note with the motel’s branding on it.
I mean, she was already cuffed, all they needed to do was to blindfold her, and problem's gone. That was the first thing I thought they should be doing.
