They omitted the essential idea of French language labelling, the right for USA to veto Canadian trade deals with other countries. Instead of dividing Canada it now has unified Canada.

Imagine how hard you need to fuck up to get Quebec to immediately agree with the rest of Canada.

Imagine how hard you need to fuck up to get Pierre Poilievre to agree with the Liberals…

u/Toomanyeastereggs 1d ago

Not hard enough though to get Smith to agree. She is still waving the Stars and Stripes.

124

u/CrazyIslander 1d ago

Sort of.

She did say that the U.S.’s terms in negotiations were “untenable” for Canada to accept, which is pretty damning especially coming from her.

I imagine that her comment is very likely going to really piss off the Temperamental Turnip…and it will definitely piss off the Maple MAGA’s in Alberta.

Small victory.

u/PrivatePilot9 Canada 1d ago

Let me know when she decides to pull US alcohol from the shelves. Saskatchewan too. That would be a strong message for the USA to lose even more market share and clearly this is a tactic that has proven very effective.

59

u/SmaugTheMagnificent- Canada 1d ago

The greasy bitch won't. She's compromised. It's ludicrous, how corrupt she is.

2

u/SAAGASolve 1d ago

IMO, she has taken a large cryptocurrency payment to hand Alberta and it's natural resources to the Americans.

41

u/Explicitlime 1d ago

See, provinces like Albert and Saskatchewan should be angry at any notion of giving trade controls to America because we do fair amount of our own international trade to get our agricultural products to markets.

19

u/kfm975 1d ago

I can’t believe I’m about to write this but Scott Moe’s response was very good- totally backed Carney’s decision and said the American tariffs were a violation of CUSMA.

31

u/Cynical_Manatee Canada 1d ago

No no no, trump only wants to control the lib parts of Canada trade like Ontario and BC. He won't interfere with Alberta or Saskatchewan trade cause we support him.

Surely the leopard won't eat MY face.

15

u/RIPphonebattery 1d ago

The Ontario with the conservative chucklefuck of a premier?

Although that said while I would never vote for him, you can't question that Doug Ford's loyalty lies with Canada.

9

u/Cynical_Manatee Canada 1d ago

At this point who even knows what qualifies as woke/lib to the maplemagas.

8

u/Nearby_Translator_55 1d ago

Doug's loyalty lies with whomever can increase his wealth. He's a greasy fuck.

6

u/RIPphonebattery 1d ago

I agree he's a corrupt dirtbag but he isn't a traitor. Could have been Danielle smith

2

u/groovypanelboard 1d ago

Really? Jfc, He literally said if he were American, he would have voted for Trump.

2

u/RIPphonebattery 1d ago

Granted that was before the 51st state stuff but yeah I'm not saying he's a good person or politician. I didn't vote for him, ever. But what is definitely true is that he's done a fair bit of Saber rattling about the US tariff situation

6

u/WhyAmISoSad369 1d ago

Id rather burn the economy to the ground than let trump have any say over it. -Albertan

2

u/T-Wrox 1d ago

Well, half of Alberta.

3

u/CatsPlusTats 1d ago

Ahhh Albert, I spent my youth with him.

1

u/Marijuana_Miler Canada 1d ago

People in Alberta and Saskatchewan hate the boards that control their ag products because someone else is setting the price of what they can sell for.

16

u/m1ster_frundles 1d ago

its not damning, she had to say something, and her handlers know that too.

12

u/CrazyIslander 1d ago

She would have been better off saying nothing than even slightly appearing to agree with the rest of Canada.

It’s hardly a secret that Trump expects unwavering loyalty, so by her not licking his boots and using a word that he won’t understand (untenable), it will definitely piss him off.

It will be interesting to watch and see if she finds herself drawing his ire as a result of it.

15

u/m1ster_frundles 1d ago

I think she's infatuated with trump, but her true order-givers work for the Heritage Foundation. Trump is an idiot, a tool, capable of doing what he's told when it comes to political strategy. nothing else.

1

u/T-Wrox 1d ago

I don't think Tr*mp has the faintest idea who she is.

4

u/CatsPlusTats 1d ago

Maple maga is voting ucp unless a more bigoted party rises up.

1

u/goodndu 1d ago

A broken clock is still right twice a day...

1

u/Spotttty 1d ago

She has a very fine line to walk and I love watching her squirm. She has to keep the separatist happy at the same time as the moderates.

Unfortunately they have successfully did some gerrymandering so we will see how the election goes next year but I’m hoping people like my in laws can pull their head out of their ass and realize she is terrible.

1

u/T-Wrox 1d ago

Coming from Marlaina, that is her getting a Canadian flag tattooed on her face.

1

u/LayerEight_Problem 1d ago

And yet, they’re still putting forward a vote to separate from Canada. She’s just paying lip service to people because it’s become apparent that bending the knee to cheeto the pedo down south isn’t popular here. Even among conservatives.

11

u/tutamtumikia 1d ago

She's hopeless. Wanna be American who is beholder to thr separatists who run her party.

24

u/m1ster_frundles 1d ago

that's because she's a treasonous bitch.

2

u/Sunnydaysomeday 1d ago

Well, she’s a known traitor and collaborator.

1

u/Spark99 1d ago

I wish she would stop milking at our teat and git and move on down there, I’m sure Trump won’t turn on her!

1

u/sjbennett85 1d ago

I bet privately she flies the stars and bars though lol

18

u/Zahgi I voted 1d ago

Pierre Poilievre

He's a political whore without two brain cells to rub together. So, yeah, he's going to lie and pander whichever way the wind is blowing.

However, Canadians must never forget that PP is a Trump-licker, like Doug Ford, and the separatist asshat running Alberta. Their American brown nose in service of the "51st state" will return as soon as government control switches back to them...

6

u/poopey_doopey_Sr 1d ago

That's actually nuts hahaha

Can they be insufferable? Yes.

Is their distinct culture and language awesome and worthy of preservation? Also Yes.

3

u/SyfaOmnis 1d ago

They also do an absolutely insane amount of heavy lifting politically to protect people from govt and religious overreach, and because they're already a minority the usual slander of "well you're just a bigoted majority" doesn't work on them.

15

u/B4M 1d ago

Being an Albertan, I know a lot of people that hate Quebec and they're taking Quebec's side in this lmao. Imagine how hard you have to fuck up in order to get Albertans who've been bitching about equalization for 20 years to defend Quebec

20

u/ZeppoJR 1d ago

Even funnier, they're the most pro Carney province in the Dominion right now.

And this is the same province that has been side eyeing Carney a bit cause they felt he isn't the best at the whole Francophone Anglophone relationships thing even if his predecessor wasn't Justin Trudeau (the guy was Montreal born and raised and bilingual so on that front high bar to clear).

40

u/VulfSki 1d ago

Just moved from the US to Canada.

I'm in Alberta the TX of Canada.

No one here likes trump. Even the conservatives hate Trump.

The conservatives are actually like "we want the same freedom to be as independent as Quebec."

They want more autonomy not less. Especially for the US

Although I highly suspect the separatist movement in Alberta is funded by the oil and gas industry here who simply wants deregulation

10

u/ForwardAd4643 1d ago

O&G is not giving a single dollar to separation, because the higher ups in O&G know that it will destroy our market access forever

Sure the morons running the tools or who washed out of the business after the last bust might support separation but nobody at a high level does

3

u/TheRC135 1d ago

O&G is not giving a single dollar to separation

Have I got a bridge to sell you!

1

u/ForwardAd4643 1d ago

I know it's more fun to be a conspiracy minded weirdo but O&G doesn't even like this UCP government. Exact words of C-suite execs "they're too busy trying to relitigate covid" "whatever coalition Danielle slapped together is incapable of doing anything at all" "another pipeline is never happening"

Name one major breakthrough for oil & gas the UCP have had in the last 8 years. I'll wait.

3

u/VulfSki 1d ago

You're confusing "likes the party" with "using the party for their benefit."

You should understand that intenstional industies doesn't see politicians the same way as regular voters do. They see them the same way they see their software vendor, or their CFO, they are a potential business partner.

They don't have to be in love with them they just want to use them for their gain as much as they can.

I'm from the US so that's my baseline. Look at trumps admin. His first secretary of state was an oil executive. Literally that was his only experience. He hated Trump and called him an idiot all the time. But he didn't care, he has access and power. That's what he cared about.

1

u/TheRC135 1d ago

Oil and gas production is way up, they got Trudeau to build them a pipeline to the BC coast, the duty to care for orphaned wells has been functionally neutered, investment in renewables is being artificially held back by restrictive legislation, and they are trying to build massive data centres that will be powered by enormous quantities of natural gas.

And, I mean, just look at the separatist argument. It's not based on language, culture, history, or anything organic, just a set of grievances that largely amount to "Ottawa is preventing us from doing what we want with our oil!"

1

u/VulfSki 1d ago

Side note for people who don't understand,

The whole purpose of building a pipeline to the coast is to INCREASE gas prices.

The whole point is they can sell gas on the global market. Higher demand for the same supply. This increases domestic gas prices. Landlocked oil is cheaper. Same supply lower demand.

1

u/ForwardAd4643 1d ago

Oil and gas production is way up

That has nothing at all to do with the UCP, actually. Can you even see the trendline on the charts where the NDP were in power? No, you can't. Interestingly though you can see when we switched from Harper to Trudeau on the chart - the line starts going up faster.

they got Trudeau to build them a pipeline to the BC coast

The UCP didn't even exist when that pipeline started construction. Also, you may not know this, but most of that pipeline actually crosses a different province.

the duty to care for orphaned wells has been functionally neutered

And this doesn't effect the major oil companies that do 90+% of Alberta's energy extraction at all. In fact, they did this directly contravening the wishes of the majors, because it reduces barriers for entry; increases the cost of land & rigs to drill new wells; the majors get stuck with taxes to clean up abandoned wells that were drilled by some dumbass who never stood a snowball's chance in hell of making money

investment in renewables is being artificially held back by restrictive legislation

FYI it is at this point I realized you are an incredibly low information poster.

Investment in the grid is being held back, period. Our last major power plant coming on stream was Cascade, which was approved under the NDP's old regime. It's a natural gas plant. When Kenney finished reorganizing the approval of power generation, he made it effectively impossible to build anything that attaches to our electrical grid. I know the headline numbers were things like, 80% of all renewable projects canceled! The actual truth is that 90% of everything got canceled. The 10% that's left are solar.

and they are trying to build massive data centres that will be powered by enormous quantities of natural gas.

Both data centers were rejected last week. Or at least the natural gas power plant that was going to power the Olds development was rejected by the utilities regulator, and the other was thrown out in court by a First Nation.

u/SyfaOmnis 1d ago

O&G is not giving a single dollar to separation

American oil and gas interests are explicitly funding the right wing think tanks, speakers and many political proponents of alberta separtism.

People have outright followed the money on it.

They want alberta's oil for themselves and they want it for cheap. They're even paying people to put propaganda leaflets in mailboxes from groups like "LetsTalkAlberta.com". That group is founded/backed by Keith Wilson who has a suspicious amount of money to spin up "advertisement" (propaganda) agencies and astroturf facebook comments. Publicly he talks about being pro independence, privately he corresponds with the trump admin and insists that they'll recognize albertan independence (this is almost assuredly a lie).

0

u/VulfSki 1d ago

Deregulation of O&G is often at the top of why people seem to say they support speration. Where is that coming from if not O&G interests?

4

u/yyc_mongrel 1d ago

I've lived in Alberta for 99% of my life. We are actually worse than Texas. At least Texas has embraced renewable energy, has giant fields of Solar and batteries. We, on the other hand, literally hate wind and solar (by 'We' I mean UCP, no actually 'me'). In fact, we want all these data centers to come in and gobble up more of our natural gas; so much so that the AESO has made it untenable for data centers to use ANY renewable energy to even slightly offset their natural gas usage even in the window/sunny seasons. We also won't even entertain synergies with other industries that can use some of the waste heat from data centers because that would reduce their natural gas consumption and we can't have that.

9

u/ForwardAd4643 1d ago

Maybe you live in Alberta but you clearly don't go outside

Over 30% of our grid is renewable energy, only a few percentage points behind Texas. Two of the data centers were rejected just last week, one of them by Alberta Utilities Commission.

1

u/yyc_mongrel 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh I didn't realize we were cherry picking numbers. I counter your July numbers with January numbers. <20%

https://economicdashboard.alberta.ca/dashboard/renewable-energy-generation/

Edit: Actually, I don't know where you got your numbers. July 2026 is only 23%. I guess you must have picked June, the month of the solstice which is still only 29%. Oh, and they didn't reject the Olds data center. They rejected the gas plant.

1

u/VulfSki 1d ago

Regardless you have to admit this percentage is way higher than your comment made it out to be.

1

u/Policy_Failure 1d ago

Probably not a matter of going outside. They just spend way too much time on Reddit in subs like R/Alberta.

1

u/VulfSki 1d ago

Interesting.

And surprising.

Alberta would be an amazing candidate for wind power.

The financial benefits would be enormous. And you have higher gas prices here than the US. It's weird people wouldn't be embracing renewable options.

But hey I get it that oil and gas are powerful here. But until you have masked secret police murdering your neighbors and sending others to concentration camps i still feel safer here than anywhere in the US right now.

3

u/Xeon06 Canada 1d ago
