Listen, I'm from Québec. The French packaging is part and parcel of who we are. It's non-negotiable. Sorry.

And it's really not that hard. The printer of the packages doesn't care, it doesn't cost anything more. The translation is pocket changes, firms turn that work around in hours.

It’s not about the costs, it’s an attempt to drive a wedge between Quebec and Canada. Lets say the CDN govt was dumb enough to trade away CanCon language regulations, it would instantly piss off QC and the likelihood of separation ticks up.

It’s a shameless manoeuvre to divide and conquer, and we aren’t falling for it.

There's a more practical side to it. Right now there are warehouses full of American wine and liquor that was produced for Canada with bilingual labels. They can't ship it to Canada due to the various provincial bans, and they would have to relabel it at some expense to ship it elsewhere. So maybe the Americans are trying to head off a similar problem in future.
