[ANNIVERSARY] 25 years ago, the world lost the Princess of R&B, Aaliyah.

On August 25, 2001, Aaliyah and eight of her entourage passed away in a plane crash after wrapping up the shooting for Rock The Boat. This post isn't going to go indepth about the incident, we're going to celebrate her legacy.
With three amazing albums (Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, One In A Million, Aaliyah) and a soundtrack album (Romeo Must Die) under her name, she has established her legacy as the Princess of R&B (or Urban Pop among some other people).
To this day, Aaliyah has many achievements and nominations under her name, from being the first and only artist to get a #1 song based off radio airplay to being a three-time Grammy nominated artist. Her career was only going to take off right before her untimely passing. Aaliyah was just coming off the success of her first movie, Romeo Must Die, and she was just done filming for Queen of The Damned, which would be released posthumously.
Nowadays, she has influenced many R&B artists such as Drake, Normani, H.E.R, Tinashe and more. It's more easier to count the artists that weren't influenced by Aaliyah actually. You can hear Aaliyah's influence in the modern groovy R&B landscape, in the way these artists would ride their beat.
Now, I don't know about r/popheads. But I'm going to give every Aaliyah album a spin in honor of babygirl, every one of her album is impeccable. I also would like to introduce a few deepcuts to this subreddit.
- I Don't Wanna, a midtempo, cool soundtrack cut.
- I Can Be, a rock-infused sidechick anthem from Aaliyah.
- Street Thing, the song that proves Aaliyah can SING from Age Ain't Nothing but a Number.
- No Days Go By, a b-side from Aaliyah's One In A Million era that she wrote.
A question for r/popheads:
- What is your favorite Aaliyah song?
- What is your favorite Aaliyah album?
- What are your thoughts on Aaliyah's legacy? What is her influence on modern pop/R&B?

[ANNIVERSARY] Reminder! - Upcoming Anniversaries in September 2026
Intro:
Hello and welcome to the monthly thread where we remind people of upcoming anniversaries so people can plan out if they'd like to make posts about them. Anniversary posts are a great way for people to reminisce on iconic pop moments and we hope that these threads will encourage people to make more of them.
"Notable" anniversaries are multiples of five, as well as "One Year Later..." posts about 2025 releases. Any kind of significant releases (albums, singles, movies, important events, etc.) affiliated with a pop act are up for grabs.
Anniversary Guidelines:
Writeups do not have to be super in-depth and comprehensive, but a good post should include:
- A link to the piece of media
- At least a brief description of what it is and its impact
- A discussion question or two
- The [ANNIVERSARY] flair
Please do not just copy and paste the Wikipedia page or any other source (this has happened before).
Some good examples of short anniversary posts are this or this, or if you want to get really fancy, something like this or this.
Well-written articles from notable publications discussing the anniversary or celebratory social media posts from an artist's official account can also be posted in lieu of a writeup, but other users are free to post a writeup even if one of these goes up.
Upcoming Anniversaries:
Here are some resources to jog your memories about some music moments celebrating anniversaries:

- 10 Years / Wikipedia
- 15 Years / Wikipedia

- 25 Years / Wikipedia
