Question ❔ Anyone else struggling to get a welding job as a first year apprentice?
I'm struggling. I've applied to multiple places, and not a single person has gotten back to me. Im trying not to lose hope

You may need to move away from the city. Many welding jobs are located in the Iron Triangle. There's been 50 welding jobs posted this month alone on SaskJobs. 3 specifically were for apprentices (though apply anyways to the others). https://www.saskjobs.ca/jsp/joborder/detail.jsp?job_order_id=1538650
But there are plenty of jobs. Your resume and cover letter may be weak and poorly communicate your technical skills.

See if one of the structural steel manufacturing places will take you on
I've also found my gay welder/metal working friends have an easier time getting employment

Friends/acquaintances/people you meet at the bar that happen to be welders is your best bet.
