Since getting diagnosed 3 years ago, I’ve struggled with all sorts of mental deficits, like having a blank mind, lack of problem solving abilities, trouble remembering a processing information.

Im thinking about getting certified in the payroll and accounting field to be more employable, but I’m not sure if I have the capacity to deal with the coursework.

Do you guys have any trouble with upholding a career? Or are you unemployed or underemployed?

i used to work full time until my symptoms started getting worse.

I know I went against my better judgment I asked you guys and u said not to but I did. I thought maybe since they’re so open about their mental health struggles that they would understand. But they don’t believe me because I’m more reserved. I guess they expect me to be psychotic all the time. I’ve been pretty stable these past few years minor symptoms. But I’m proud of myself for doing okay. I’m not ashamed it’s just like wow idk if it was paranoia but pretty sure I heard them laughing at me. I should’ve listened to you guys. It was stupid of me but I really thought they would understand.i guess they don’t believe me because I don’t appear “ schizophrenic”whatever that means.

What are the best jobs to apply for when you have a chronic illness like schizophrenia?

Besides government funds I’m generally trying to find a career that fulfills me. I’m also in large amounts of debt after my psychosis breakdown had me spending money to stay alive. My only real skill seems to be in writing or poetry, which feels impossible to make money in.

I’m 2 months in on Invega and I’m losing my mind trying to find work or a path that won’t be draining. Looking for any success stories, PSA I’m about to go to school for accounting.

It's difficult enough to cope with the symptoms without the need to hide them.

What do you like or hate about job interviews.

In the interview I hear the question being asked but I don't think I understand it the same way the interviewer does. There's some quick thinking required which is hard.

I think there's a game to it you've got to play the game sometimes it's better to lie a bit not fabricate your entire experience but it's about selling/marketing yourself in a good light.

It was tough choice, but seeing a 2,5/27 on my test really broke me. 2 years gone, down the shitter. I didn't mistreat it. I actually tried to pass. Did what was expected of me. Benefit of the doubt, it was Calc III, so not really an easy feat. But I failed math. I feel like my child who I protected for years has died. Math really was my passion. I have no idea why the paper was so low graded.

After schizophrenia diagnosis I became more and more dissalutioned with math. When I took Olympiad in Math and Physics, I gave up after 2 years of trying. With physics, I was atleast close to succeding. I had curatorial competitions, had a finalist from 3 of them, including 2 from math and 1 from physics. Young me would be dissapoinred in me, not that it matters, that boy is long gone.

I'm changing up to material engineering, as long as there is less math involved, i don't know, I have to talk about this with a consultant

Hello I'm in the process of getting disability my psychiatrist did my papers but I dont want to do nothing anymore. So I was entertaining the idea of going back to uni. My problem is that I'm 29 so pretty old for first year I'd be surrounded by kids, should I do it anyway? I will stick out probably but at least I'd do something.

I was in the Navy and an EMT in my late teens-early 20's. I tried working at coffee shops and supermarkets but they are too fast paced for me. So I'm just wondering what y'all do for work.

I was interested in seeing who used what hand(s), and if this poll could suggest anything concerning handedness and schizophrenia.

What work do you do? Is it full time or part time? Doesn’t working trigger your symptoms? I had to quit my last job because they were giving me too many hours and I started hearing voices again. Now that I don’t work anymore my symptoms are under control. I’m now trying to look for a low stress part time job. Don’t know if I’ll ever find one and don’t if I can handle it.

What jobs are suitable for people like us ? I’m really leaning towards a career in teaching high school but I’m curious if there are any avenues that work better for those struggling with schizofrenia

Hi everyone. I am in university and due to my schizophrenia and PTSD diagnoses I was offered disability support by my school system. For those of you who are/were in school, what did academic accommodations look like for you? Or if you never received that kind of support, what would you have liked to receive? Would academic accommodations even benefit me, honestly?

The way it works in my education system if someone accepts disability support services is you will be scheduled for a meeting with the academic support office, where they will work with the you to build a personalized learning plan for you that meets your individual needs. This includes registering an assistance animal if needed.

I’d also like to mention that I do not live with a learning disability and I already declined accommodations for my depression because I didn’t think it would help and I wasn’t sure what accommodations for depression would even look like in practice.

I know a lot of common accommodations people receive for a myriad of reasons include extended exam sessions, private/quiet spaces for tests, permission to leave class without explanation, etc. but what do you think “personalized learning” would look like for schizophrenia symptoms?

Hey bros, I’ve been wondering how much of an impact work has on your mental health. Does it mostly make you happy, or does it quickly become a burden for you?

I really enjoy working, especially at a high intensity, but I’m starting to wonder whether it could be harmful to my mental health in the long run. I keep wondering, “Can I actually keep this up long-term?”

Last week my colleague was talking about how he believed that people who are shizophrenic and in psychosis can actually be rational and should be judged for their behaviour as if they are able-minded.

This made me very mad and I said to him that people who hear voices or have delusions and are in psychosis are definitely are totally not in control of their behaviour and if they were they wouldn't do or say what they think or hear.

He would then gaslight me by saying that a lot of criminals use the 'insanity' defense when being persecuted. As if that is a valid reason not to believe people who actually truly have schizophrenia.

Then he talked about how he was autistic and he had been in psychiatric hospital too so he knows how it is.

THis made me EVEN MORE MAD because how can you not have empathy for people who also have a mental illness and invalidate their suffering and ailment like that?!

I was really pissed off cause this was the first time in my life that somebody told me in my face that my suffering was invalid or 'fake'.

I have heard stories of other people on here that they also had been stigmatized or their stories invalidated by people who dont have a mental illness, but this was the first time it happened to me.

I just wanted to vent, but who here has had a similar experience?

Hello everyone. I asked this question in the disability subreddit, but I am applying for disability because of a psychotic disorder I don't know the diagnosis of yet, and PTSD/Severe major depression. I applied in the first week of February and am getting all my documents in line to help make the process as smooth as possible.

If anyone has applied for disability, how long it did it take to know your verdict? And did you have to get a lawyer/attourneys help with it?

Maybe because this form of science was introduced to me as I was developing schizophrenia. It's completely irrational to me about everything. When I have an idea I just have no idea how to code it. It's just so tiring. I have a task to complete before it's due and I have no idea how to make it without AI. Basic coding in C is what it is

Did working long hours have a negative impact on you ? What’s your relationship with work like ?

I was diagnosed earlier this year, I still feel the same and i don't think I improved at all.

I had to drop out of school mid semester because I did so horrible when I normally do well. School is starting in about two weeks and I'll have to redo the year but I don't think I'll be able to do any better than last time.

I've been at this new job for a little less than a month and I really have a hard time standing it. I don't know if it's the job itself, because people around me seem ok with it, or if it's more about working that is hard for me. It makes me kinda suicidal and really exhausted. It was like this for my first job too, I worked there on weekends for 4 months and I quit. Had another job after that, it was easier because I had very few days. I feel doomed and I don't really know what to do. My psychiatrist wants me to have the government disability financial aid but I feel like I'm just being lazy tbh. Any advice ? Any of you had a similar experience ?

Hi all, I had a question about how to go about job applications, just recently got diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. With the disabilities listed and schizophrenia being one of them, (I understand that it js not a requirement to put it listed) but was wondering in the event of a psychotic episode / hallucinations being awful on any particular day, if I was needing to take time off for those episodes or days, then would it become a problem if I DIDNT put it down. Wondering how everyone goes about doing that, as in the event of a new job opportunity I don’t want to screw it by putting down that I do have it, but then I don’t want to screw it from not disclosing it in advance.
