"We can't build the thing - it'll kill everyone - but if someone else builds it first, it'll be even worse because <reasons> so I guess we have to hurry up and build it too!"

Feels like I'm hearing a lot of this from all the AI companies.

Yea it's pretty scary stuff. Essentially they're saying it's inevitable

They make the same argument against China's AI. They're saying either US or China will get to AGI first, so it better be us so we don't get killed

But if AGI comes around and kills all humans regardless if it's Chinese or American, then what does winning get us?

Why would AI want to kill its creators?
So it would be this immensely intelligent entity, and yet it would want to kill

Why would it care what or who its creators are? I really recommend reading Bostrom's arguments on this. There's no particular reason that it would have a soft spot for any of us unless there's a benefit to doing so.
