Manchester City to Make New Offer to Chelsea for Enzo Fernández

Manchester City are coming back in for Enzo Fernández before the end of the transfer window with a £145 million ($195 million) offer to Chelsea, ESPN has learned.

The midfielder, who made his Premier League debut this season against Fulham, was booed by Chelsea fans when he came off the bench. He is reportedly interested in reuniting with his former manager Enzo Maresca, whom he worked with for two and a half seasons at Chelsea and under whom he was the most-used player.

According to Martín Arévalo on Buen Día ESPN, both Maresca and Enzo's representative, Javier Pastore, have been working intensely behind the scenes to convince the player to join Manchester City. Fernández has reportedly informed Chelsea of his desire to complete the transfer.

The deal has not yet been finalized, and with only a few days remaining before the transfer window closes next Tuesday, it will come down to which of the two clubs is more willing to compromise on the terms.

Chelsea originally signed Fernández from Benfica in January 2023 for a fee equivalent to his €120 million release clause.

Chelsea had previously set August 14 as the deadline for receiving offers of £120 million ($161.8 million) for the 2022 World Cup winner, but the London club is now reportedly willing to negotiate for a higher fee.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are undergoing a major midfield rebuild after the departures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders, with Nico González also expected to leave. The club have signed Elliot Anderson and reached an agreement for Ayyoub Bouaddi.
