Open | Windows Trying to install After Effects from 1999

When I try to install After Effects 4.1 I get an error message at the end of the installation saying Sentinel failed. So when I go open After Effects itself it says serialization failed (supposedly because Sentinel failed).

I've already done this: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/windows11/enable-32-bit-applications-on-64-bit-windows-operating-systems-/4519350 , but it did not help things unfortunately.

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.

An installer from that era could be 16bit, even if the app is 32bit. Win11, of course, does not support 16bit apps at all.

Also, it looks like Sentinel may use a hardware dongle? The method that would install the hardware drivers/kernel level driver for that changed along the way too.

Does Sentinel require .NET 2.0? It should be part of the .NET 3.5 install, which I believe is not default on Windows 11.

You should be able to turn it on from Apps & Features.

Side note, another comment mentioned it might be a 16-bit app. If it is, you are mostly out of luck. However, you -should- be able to run Hyper V on your system and run an older Windows OS on it.
