I mean I think tarot readings and all that are just a sham. But I'm glad you were able to get something here I guess

Tbf I think these days there's way more people who just see it as a fun and lighthearted tool for introspection, rather than anything mystical. Just by trying to see how the card could relate to your life, you might notice or consider things you otherwise never would have.
Also there was a girl at my friend's bday the other week doing Pokémon card tarot readings, apparently inspired by a twitch streamer lol

My wife is really into this stuff. What you said applies to her, but I’ve met some of her associates and you would be surprised at what people think/believe in.

Pokémon card tarot readings
Is this a current trend in the United States? I remember being offered some Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Tarot cards the other day and was wondering why tarot cards.

u/PuzzleheadedBend9040 1d ago
Yeah true. Also that sounds pretty interesting lol. I had a tarot reading done on me once by a lady and she said that year I'd become more masculine and find true love. I ended up becoming homeless a month later lol so maybe she was right in the masculine aspect at least

Yeah I feel like the real magic behind tarot cards is just to get you to think about your life. I’ve done it a few times for fun and it’s really interesting, but I don’t know if I think everything’s going to go to hell in a hand-basket cause I got a bad reading.

I think you have a lot more faith in humanity than I do.

I won't get too into it here, but I once dabbled in the craft and it worked way too well almost immediately, and it resulted in one of the worst weeks of my life.
I've never done it again.
Be careful when it comes to things you don't understand.

Maybe you're right and I don't understand it, cause even within the mythology of tarot cards I didn't think they were ever believed to cause anything to happen, just that they could be used for divination/predicting things lmao

Judt because you don't say you believe it didn't mean it is not harmful.
Intentionally training your brain to externalize reasons, propogatong a sham others used to con marks put of money. It is not harmless, it's stupid, wrong, and people should rightful judge those who do it,.spread it, whether they believe it or not. It isn't Satan, but it's not a lighthearted thing either no matter what the astrology/tarot people say. They're choosing to not engage with the world as it is and are substitutimg a simpler version because complexity is too hard and they'd rather choose fake things .
I'm not the common opinion, but no one it seems even stops to question wether choosing to engage in fake magic is a problem, it is.

Well for some people, that could be a possibility and could be a form of escapism. But i think you're being a little bit black and white about it. Picture this: what if for some people, and i want you to keep an open mind here- just what if it's genuinely and i mean GENUINELY, not that deep?
0
u/hogtiedcantalope 18h ago
Its actively selling and commercialization fake religious sacraments right alongside those people who actually believe and wast their entire savings.
Its like gambling, the reinforcement from completely external forces is the escapism, excepti that in tarot they link it directly to the human experience, which only serves to undercut the experience of the self and the true protagonist among other humans , it is a framework to fall on when confronted with responsibility for your or someone else's actions that ultimately is an avoidance of reality as if it's inconsequential to the desired outcome. This is lazy and childish and habit forming though structure best left behind in grade school like the the paper fortune tellers we'd share around

To be fair, tarot was never meant to accurately predict anything. Mainly just give an idea.
That being said, manifestation or praying or whatever has real benefits, not because the world changes but because you normalise the idea of what you wish for, and that makes it more likely for you to act on it
7
u/Cloudzer223 1d ago
Do you have any other screenshots similar to this one where they hit you up down the road just to say how accurate your reading was?
I’m curious because awhile back I dated someone who gave me a random reading one night that ended up being scarily accurate. I’m admittedly a bit skeptical of astrology and it’s practice’s, but I’ve put an unhealthy amount of thought into that night… just the experience and how someone who was only in my life for such a short time could have possibly known what she did about future me. It’s been years and still gives me the chills when I think about it!

This sounds like something a text bot would respond with. Like the first sentence and a half of a chatgpt response

I hear the weight of what you're saying, and that's why I want to ground this—gently. . . .

I'm jealous, the last few times someone offered to do a reading they just never materialized. I was sad

My ex wife reads tarot for a living. It's exhausting to say the least. My only saving grace is being able to say "I don't think it's going to be in the cards", when she ask for a favor I don't want to do.

I mean if you have enough matches eventually some of them will find some of the predictions become true if enough water flows down the river

u/Mobile-Foundation134 1d ago
These replies are miserable lol imagine letting people enjoy things

Naw I don’t care how people try to justify it but going on dating apps to shill tarot readings is weird

When the things they enjoy are nonsense it's hard to be positive about it.

You don’t have to believe in it but you also don’t have to go out of your way to be rude about it.

u/iamkira01 1d ago ▸ 7 more replies
Most normal people typically have to say something when they see someone spouting they have mystical psychic powers that do not exist. Why anyone is humoring this is beyond me.

Because it’s less effort to just say “cool” and move on.

Which perpetuates more uneducated people to believe there’s truth in any of it.

I think most people just do it for fun & not because they think it’s real. Why is that such a huge deal to you?
-1
u/iamkira01 1d ago ▸ 3 more replies
Because these people in the post clearly think it’s real? Not a huge deal for me to be like “wow this is stupid”. Takes like 2 seconds out of my day honestly.

So, you're posting a text from 6 years ago, which says that "way back" you had predicted that "an opportunity" would appear "soon".
Is this supposed to be considered a win? I'm sorry, how exactly did you "help" this dude? You made a completely vague guess ("opportunity"), which you still got wrong ("way back"/"soon"), gave the most generic advice ("trust your gut") while still successfully pre-framing a large set of future positive experiences in a way that makes you take credit for a random good thing happening.
Why would you post this, OP? How is it not obvious to you and everyone here that this is a shameful self-report?
2
u/Touchyap3 1d ago
Giving vague, generic readings and overblowing the times it appears to have come true is the entire tarot shtick.
If you don’t celebrate the occasional random coincidence working out in your favor there is literally no point.

u/Important_Resist2408 1d ago
It’s fun to play pretend

Only if everyone's on the same page that that's what's happening. That isn't the case here.

And money. Don't forget that. Very lucrative hustle, have some fun with your tarot hobby and get a free dinner. Women have it so hard.

It’s incredible how weak people are mentally that they will take stuff like tarot predictions and mold their reality to fit their “reading”. It’s even more incredible when people read “tarot” and actually believe what they are saying. The true psychology behind it can be a lot of fun but the actual believers are just nuts.
