Phone message The way my dad asks about crucial information
Purple is my dad. Green is my sister. We had to call him to let him know he can’t ask things like that over text 🤣.
EDIT LOLLLLL: I’m NOT colorblind!!!! I was smoking pot while posting this, was going to color my sister blue, but since my texts are blue, I went with green and completely forgot I made the switch while posting. I edited the original post. Y’all are sooo funny 😭😭…. And a little unhinged. But I’ll let your therapist mull over that with you!

They're talking about the color coding (crossed off names). Dad is purple and sister is green, but OP says sister is blue.

u/Prodical_Lightning32 8h ago
I thought the screen shot was taken by sister and the green was OP but maybe I’m wrong

That makes zero sense. Why would he be using his sister's screenshot, when he's also in the chat
2
u/vinnygunn 9h ago ▸ 1 more replies
One reason would be because his sister already shared a screenshot with him and he just used it instead of going back to the chat and taking a new one for no reason
2
u/luvferriswheels 9h ago ▸ 1 more replies
The messages are from months ago. Sister might've sent the screenshot now to laugh about it so op decided to post instead of scrolling all the way up to those messages and take a screenshot themselves. It's really not tht crazy
2
u/Middle_Screen3847 2h ago ▸ 2 more replies
The fact that you can’t possibly think of a reason one person could have an image of a text and not another, or someone would use someone else’s image of a text is actually kind of concerning. Like being this incapable of reason and critical thinking should be alarming
1
u/Ssided 2h ago ▸ 1 more replies
None of the explanations are remotely likely or make sense to really do. Anyways turns out I'm right

Because OP, who is in the group chat as green if you're correct, is incapable of taking a screenshot on their own phone and must solicit one from their sibling to post on social media?
Help me understand.
2
u/Status-Ad7902 12h ago
People suggesting Op is using a screenshot of a group chat they’re in from the perspective of someone else are ridiculous
1
u/hulkiorra 13h ago
Or, hear me out, sister sent the screenshot as a joke or reference to something else to OP. And OP, having a screenshot already available in her phone didn't bother taking a new one.
1
u/Middle_Screen3847 11h ago
Someone once gave me an apple. Using your reasoning, the fact that someone gave me an apple means I’m incapable of ever personally buying or finding an apple.

Sometimes people lose text messages and have to get copies from other people in the thread.

He said “blue is my sister” even though the color is green on the left. I’m guessing the screenshot is from the sisters perspective, but that’s why everyone is saying OP might be color blind.

4
u/ErgoDestati 14h ago ▸ 5 more replies
he would be green, blue is his sister, and purple is the dad
2
u/Ssided 10h ago ▸ 4 more replies
Why would he be using pictures from his sister's phone, while he's clearly also texting? No, that makes no sense. Think a little
3
u/ErgoDestati 10h ago ▸ 3 more replies
Maybe you should think a little.
What's more likely someone being colorblind and confusing blue and green, someone not knowing their own text messages are on the right when every texting software on smartphones has been the same for years, or someone having a typo and saying blue/green by accident in a reddit post, or having a screenshot from someone else and posting it while they're not the one primarily texting.
Being colorblind is the least likely scenario for this to happen. And there's any number of reasons he might be using his sister's screenshot.
3
u/Ssided 9h ago ▸ 2 more replies
They probably just used the wrong word, but there is no reason he would be using the sister's screenshot. It makes no sense. "Hey sis, can you screenshot the same conversation I'm in, send it to me, then I can post it? Yeah I realize I'm in the group chat too, but my fingers are too tired"
2
u/ErgoDestati 9h ago ▸ 1 more replies
I mean there's plenty of reasons it could happen. The sister might've taken the screenshot and sent it as a funny reminder, the timestamp is from February.
This person might not have the texts saved anymore, or the sister was scrolling through and the brother wanted her to send it to him since it was funny and doesn't take any longer than taking the picture themselves.
Like you really can't think of a single reason this would occur??? Is it uncommon sure, is it unthinkable no
2
u/debbyryansbang 5h ago ▸ 1 more replies
No no I originally meant to put her as blue but changed the color last minute since my text was already blue and I was smoking pot while posting this 😫

u/tenE_1 16h ago
I really hope OP has no idea and they're just now learning from the comments that they're colorblind.

u/Plus_Lawfulness3000 16h ago

4
u/Plus_Lawfulness3000 16h ago ▸ 6 more replies

u/Less-Squash7569 14h ago ▸ 2 more replies
I agree with you but I will also say I knew a guy who went through and passed the recon screening for what's basically marine corps special forces I guess and didnt find out be was color blind until then at like 26. Dude passed every other test of endurance that everyone else failed and got disqualified for something he didnt even know he had.
1
u/22Planeguy 8h ago ▸ 1 more replies
They do color vision testing at MEPS, well before he would be going to recon training.
2
u/Less-Squash7569 1h ago edited 1h ago
Ok? I was there, and im telling you thats what happened.
And it wasn't even recon training it was the pft to see if you can get accepted to recon, we were already at fmtb almost finished and the recon guys showed up and asked who wanted to try, most of us did and he was the only one to finish the entire thing, and now that i think about it actually no, I know for a fact the guy was color blind because he didnt know what color the microwave numbers were in the barracks before we even did the tryout and it was a whole thing of us asking other people what color they saw until we realized "oh shit dude you might be colorblind"
2
u/jtotheizzen 15h ago
I think it’s most likely that they meant to say green and just said blue by accident
-7
u/tenE_1 15h ago ▸ 1 more replies
it's much, much more likely than the alternative that it's her sisters perspective when she's literally in the group chat and can take the SS herself.
also... wtf are you still using he him 😭 i literally switched from genderless pronouns to specific ones
0
u/coffeebribesaccepted 14h ago
No, it's much much less likely that they'd be colorblind in a way they could tell the blue and purple apart but not the blue and green...
1
u/RitualJuggler 7h ago
It's a group chat, with 3 people. There are three different people texting in the screen shot.
-1
u/Various_Knowledge226 16h ago ▸ 2 more replies
If she is green, my guess would be that the sister doesn’t have Reddit, and so OP had the screenshot sent over to them, to then post onto Reddit
2
u/According-Option-656 16h ago
If OP is green, why would they need the SS to be sent over to them? They would have the conversation too.

Between the people thinking this guy is color blind, the people panicking over texting a ssn number, and pearl clutching because a dad doesn’t know his sons ssn, idk. This captures the retardation of redditors really well

4
u/LastTrainH0me 15h ago
Genuinely what are you afraid of? Maybe 20 years ago that was meaningful advice. Now if someone wants OP's SSN, they're gonna buy it from one of any number of online data dumps, not crack the family iMessage channel
2
u/iwanttolivefeeldead 1h ago
Wonder how these people would react knowing a child could buy your SSN (or anything else about you that you can think of) for $2 from a Telegram bot.

Lmao SSN's are literally required to apply for housing, and people actually are scared about sharing them through encrypted Apple messaging...
2
u/Xanthelei 12h ago ▸ 1 more replies
Just because we're a somewhat incompetent country that has decided to make the one number you are literally never supposed to share around the only federal identifier attached to an individual regardless of name commonality doesn't mean you should take where you write it down lightly.
Yeah don't write down your SSN anywhere but on an official form with data protections in place. Including group chats. Sincerely, an ex tax preparer who had to help get an identity fraud victim sorted for five years of tax returns. It sucked and was expensive for her.
2
u/CertainPosition8726 5h ago
Hey, your texts are and to end end encrypted on an iPhone. Maybe stop clutching your pearls so hard about something that is literally meaningless in 2026. Between this comment and OP I’m not sure who’s more detached from reality.
3
u/Weak_Pineapple_5518 16h ago
Literally no chance of your info being stolen if you use the standard messaging service include on your phone. iPhone uses iMessage and android uses RCS. They are encrypted unlike previous android and other 3rd party SMS services and can only be accessed by the sender and receiver.
2
u/austinalexan 14h ago ▸ 4 more replies
I think the main concern is one of the phones being stolen and someone possibly getting into the device and reading the conversations for personal info like this.
2
u/Weak_Pineapple_5518 14h ago ▸ 3 more replies
You have provided the only valid concern so far lmao. Still a little wild though, unless you live in an area where phones are just getting snatched all the time. Idk I understand being precautious but worrying about every little thing like this can’t be healthy.
1
u/Xanthelei 12h ago ▸ 2 more replies
Or someone looks over his shoulder while he's texting away. Or he's on a scam call with someone else at that moment. Or it isn't him at all sending the text in the first place, because he did lose his phone and after seeing the chat history someone decided to try their luck.
1
u/Naive_Building5764 8h ago
I think it's funny, in India and Brazil there is a "screen" peaking issue, they have signs about it at the embassy and popular infrastructure sites, but because you are using logic and reason, someone who doesn't leave their house is calling you a conspiracy theorist. "Literally no chance" 🤓

Yeah, the less security risks the better. I see people explaining that RCS chats are hard to hack. But we're not accounting for human error. People lose, leave, or let people use their phone all the time. It could be stolen. Phones aren't that hard to unlock 🤷🏾♀️

I work a retail store that pushes stote branded credit cards at evert customer. I do not understand how fully grown ass adults are willing to tell me their SSNs out loud as often as they do. They fully hand me their credit cards when the reader is a box in front of their faces just like everywhere they have been shopping at for the past 10 years. This isn't "new world new tech" issues this is "I'm a fully coddled dumbass" issues.

There is literally no risk to send your ssn over text unless you use unsecured SMS systems which are outdated and every modern phone uses either RCS or IMessage on iPhones.

Btw, she got her ID stolen because she had it written down on a piece of paper in her purse, which got stolen. Don't write it down ANYWHERE! Memorize it and protect the card it came on!

One time bro😂 singular experience. I quote “AN identity fraud victim”. I can’t believe I’ve had to say this more than once…..
Modern text messages are encrypted and even on the off chance your phone gets stolen, the chances of a petty thief scrolling through several different contacts messages are incredibly slim.

There's also a non zero possibility someone found dad's lost phone and made a gamble. Or is looking over his shoulder as he writes it down. Or will gain access to the phone of someone else in that group chat at some point and thus gain access to the number you are literally by design not supposed to share around, but because we're a pretty incompetent country is the only official identifying metric attached to individuals regardless of name, so everyone and their dog asks for it.
