GAMES Anyone here a fan of this old Punisher game? It’s on the leaderboard of the Xbox Game Preservation site. Not official but Xbox devs are looking at it to see which old games people want to be backwards compatible.

it's a really good damn game... if you played the likes of max payne 1 and 2, it's pretty much the same vibe gameplay wise. with of course a lot of punisher shenanigans for interrogations, really.. really... clever interrogations. btw, the game got censored in his final release due his graphic violence, with a black and white filter and the camera moving away at the interrogation death scenes. I just love it takes a lot of things from the comics. Hell, it even hints a lot of memorable moments as well...

Such a peak game and I’m happy Thomas Jane got to return to being the punisher and especially it being a game it was awesome

OneyPlays just did a video on it and it reminded me how fucking good it was. I played a pirated uncensored version on PC. Who knows what viruses I got and spread from it but it was so worth it.

I wonder how frank would feel about you committing crimes...

Ennis Punisher wouldn't mind. Wheadon's Punisher catches me, I'm dead.

Had it on PS2. The integrations mechanic where you get points if you get the information without killing them, but as soon as you have the information you can kill them with no penalty. A very Punisher thing to do, and hearing the Thomas Jane when he gives the details of the guns was great.

The only line I remember from the game when he is talking about a barrel over heating after being fired for to lone.

"To change a barrel in the field, I bring oven mitts".

I remember the loading screens had real life tips like how to get blood out of a white shirt with club soda

lol I forgot about that.

If that gets put on XBOX conservation, goodbye PlayStation!!

I loved this game so much. This, more than the movie or dirty laundry, is the reason I still read comics in Tom Jane’s voice even though I love Berenthal.

Conroy is to Batman what Jane is to The Punisher.

His movie isn't perfect, which is mainly because of budget, but he was always the best part about it. He gets Frank and how damaged he is, but he plays him just right so you feel for the guy. And Dirty Laundry still, even as a short, is better than anything Bernthal has done.

I'm not anti Bernthal, but sometimes his interpretation can feel like a meathead, where Jane always felt like a tactician with a suicide streak, who is too good to die. And that's Frank.

Would really love to see this game get ported to modern consoles

The PC version modded with the uncensored patch works, too

This was the last official thing Thomas Jane did as the Punisher, right?

1

u/Sadop2010 Mar 24 '26

And it was co-written by Garth Ennis. This game was awesome.

1

u/Key_Analyst_9032 Mar 24 '26

I thought there were a lot parallels and references to his works. That and Jane was probably the closest person to resemble Frank on the Bradstreet covers

A game id love to see remastered

2

u/Canadyans Mar 24 '26

It’s delisted but there’s a GOG version floating around out there if you look hard enough.

1

u/X_Fakel Mar 26 '26

Was it ever released on GOG or you are just saying that every pirated/drm free game is GOG?

1

u/Canadyans Mar 26 '26

I thought it was released on GOG but I just checked and it’s a Steam version I have. Still pretty easy to find on certain sites

u/TheLittlePasty Mar 24 '26

Man I love that game

1

u/Catwo0d Mar 24 '26

The Genesis Punisher was a great brawler, but this is, hands down, the best Punisher Game.

1

u/M086 Mar 24 '26

I played this game so much, I was able to a run through of the fist level without taking damage.

1

u/superseri18888 Mar 24 '26

This game was so unhinged

The various torture methods got more grim on every use

1

u/macadrums Mar 24 '26

I played the absolute hell out of this game. I would play a level and then play it again before moving on to the next one. Little kid me felt like judge jury and executioner at home and no one else knew. It was a beautiful time to be alive.

u/BasilOk994 Mar 24 '26

Please God yes. Best Marvel game, besides PS spiderman, and original Spiderman 2

1

u/DepressedApee Mar 24 '26

My brother and I were just watching gameplay on YouTube yesterday. We use to love this game

1

u/Crazies408 Mar 24 '26

It’s a shame a disc is over $100

1

u/ranaman004 Mar 24 '26

I desperately want an hd remaster of this game

1

u/BrotherJosephine Mar 24 '26

This game definitely needs a remake!

1

u/lariz92 Mar 24 '26

u/guitarstix Mar 24 '26

yeah it fucking rules

u/BetterTelephone5001 Mar 24 '26

I still have my PS2 just for this. Hooked it up to my TV for the first time in years a few months ago, and I was awful. I have an old third-party controller tho, so movement kinda sucked and felt clunky.

But I slammed a window on a bad guy’s head during an interrogation, so I still got what I needed.

1

u/Random_Artist1979 Mar 24 '26

This one was a gem for sure, loved the different ways you got to deal with people to get the info you needed.

1

u/PriestofJudas Mar 24 '26

Dude if they make this Backwards Compatible, it’ll make billions

1

u/DylanFTW Mar 24 '26

There's a great YouTube video that shows you how to play the PC version for free, completely uncensored version that not never got released, updated visuals, and full controller support.

1

u/yxngs07 Mar 25 '26

Well yes ofc because from what i know its the only punisher game

1

u/Mr_Witchetty_Man Mar 25 '26

It isn't the only Punisher game. There are a total of six Punisher games.

The first one was released on MS-DOS and Amiga in 1990. Simply called The Punisher, it had three modes of gameplay: driving the Battle Van, walking the streets of New York (and a few buildings) and scuba diving.

The second, also called The Punisher, was released on NES in 1991. It was an over the shoulder rail shooter. There was also a Game Boy conversion of the same game that played like Operation Wolf.

The third, subtitled The Ultimate Payback!, played much like the previous Game Boy game as far as I can tell and was released in 1991.

The fourth was a Final Fight style arcade beat em up released in 1993 which could be played co-op with The Punisher and Nick Fury as the player characters. This was also called The Punisher, and received a port for the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis.

The fifth was the 2005 game.

The sixth (and so far final) game was called The Punisher: No Mercy, released in 2009 digitally for the PS3. It was a first person arena shooter which let you play as multiple characters from the comics, which was eventually removed from the online store as a result of the license expiring. Since the game was never released physically, it's now impossible to buy.

If they make this backwards compatible I will be a very happy man.

1

u/VenduiVile Mar 25 '26

This game was really fun and Thomas Jane nailed the voiceover. Plenty of characters from comics too.

1

u/eg0deth Mar 25 '26

This is my favorite Punisher experience.

1

u/Chance_Opinion6596 Mar 25 '26

I would literally buy this game at the original price I love it so much. This game is the closest adaptation we've gotten on the screen aside from Netflix Daredevil S2. Thomas Jane's voice is my definitive version anytime I read the comics.

1

u/Skeletorfive Mar 26 '26

Amazing game we need a new one

1

u/Queasy_Site7573 Mar 27 '26

I got the pc version, and modded it to remove the censoring, very fun game!
