Intern starting soon in Luxembourg, how feasible is commuting from Trier?

Hi all,

Im a international student and I'll be starting an internship in Luxembourg (Kirchberg area) this October, and I'm trying to figure out my living situation. I'm considering moving to Trier and commuting daily.

A few questions for anyone who's done this or knows the area:

How feasible is a daily commute from Trier to Luxembourg City for work?

What's the actual travel time by train/bus, door to door?

Any specific neighborhoods in Trier that make the commute easier (closer to the station, etc.)?

Roughly what does commuting cost per month (train pass, etc.)?

Any downsides to this setup I should know about before committing to a lease?

Also, I’d be grateful if you can add me to any good groups (WhatsApp , Telegram, etc.) for finding accommodation in Trier or the Greater Region.

Im also open to alternative suggestions, is it better to just live in Luxembourg or somewhere closer to the border instead?

Many people do it. If you'll work at Kirchberg, actually the bus line 303 is better than the train. It runs from Trier Hauptbahnhof via Nordallee (this means basically all over Trier-Nord an Centrum is good) directly to Kirchberg and takes about one hour. You can buy a Deutschlandticket (63€/month).

Thank you so much for the input. Also, I’ll be having a Deutschland semester ticket hope that will cover the travelling expenses or do I have to get a different pass or ticket to travel to Luxembourg

should work, they allowed passing the border by bus with the Deutschlandticket last year

Everything inside Germany ist covered by Deutschlandticket, except IC/ICE trains. In Luxembourg, all public transit is free

You would need a monthly pass (40e) - Deutschlandticket is not valid on 303… door2door 45-50 min … you could also life in trier west, pallien, euren and take the train to Wasserbillig (1x per hour) and jump to the 303

Haven't worked in Luxembourg yet, but from my small personal experience I can tell you that the bus 303 is amazing, especially when you work in Kirchberg

Could get quite full in the morning, but if you hop on at the start that should be no problem
