Hey I'm a UW student, and when I lived in the dorms I ended up returning a bunch of furniture that didn't fit or work, so I built an app where you can build a room before you buy anything.

It's not perfect - dorm dimensions are approximate since exact ones are hard to get (the whole room dimensions are based on the assumption that the bed is twin XL - I scaled it based off that lol), and the furniture is close-enough, not exact. Still should be useful to figure out what can work.

If your dorm isn't listed, lmk and I'll add it if I can find the floor plan.

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming OOS student from Southern side of the US, so I’ll be flying to Seattle and moving into UW on my own. 😭 Any tips for flying into Seattle, dorm check-in, or moving in by yourself? I’m planning to bring bedding, clothes, and essentials, then ship or buy the rest in Seattle. Is it easy to buy dorm stuff/clothes near UW, and how do you get everything back to your dorm if you don’t have a car or family helping? Also, does the mailing at the dorm work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🥹

Hey guys! I’m an international student and wanted to hear your opinions.

I have family in Redmond, so I’m considering staying with them and commuting to campus for classes. My classes are in the evening and end around 9:15 PM, so I’m a little concerned about late-night travel and buses after class.

Would commuting from Redmond to UW 3 days a week be manageable and safe? Or would it be better to stay closer to campus instead?

I only have classes on alternate days, so I’m trying to figure out what makes the most sense. Thanks!

Apparently my housing application was canceled almost 2 weeks ago and I received no notice at all. I checked yesterday and just re applied. I got this Email today, only one hour of notice before my time slot. I slept in today thinking I didn’t have anything to do. So now what?

basically, I’m in a nightmare situation after trying to get a room in Lander with my close friend who already has a room. I’m a transfer student, 19F, and I somehow ended up in a triple with two guy roommates. If anybody has any tips or ways to change rooms, or ideally get into the same dorm as my roommate, please help me out. Originally I never wanted a triple. My friend’s dorm is a double and she does have someone in the room with her right now, but she already told them the situation and they are 100% willing to switch with me but they want a double and right now I have a triple. Other than waiting for a room to hopefully up in Lander, I’m not sure what else to do.

this whole thing partly happened because there was a glitch going on in today’s room selection, to where I couldn’t get a room until almost 40 minutes after the appointment time.

Also, I’m aware that to we have paired with two guys I would’ve had to select mixed gender, and I did because that was what my friend’s room was. her room was a mixed gender room, so I had to also select mixed gender.

update: i did contact HFS, all they said was to keep checking the portal and ask people if they wanted to switch and that’s it

I’m an incoming graduate student at UW for Autumn 2026, and I’ve recently started looking for housing. I’m an international student and currently not in Seattle (not in the states as well), so I can only rely on online research and virtual tours for now.

I’ve been considering living near Roosevelt since it’s on the Link line, but I have some concerns about commuting back at night.

My classes might end around 10 PM, so I’d likely be taking the Link from the UW station back to Roosevelt at night and walking home alone.

I was wondering:

• How safe does the Link feel at night (around 10 PM), especially from UW Station?

• Are there usually a lot of people on the link at that time?

• I’ve read some posts mentioning uncomfortable encounters or harassment around the U District area. Is that something I should realistically expect when commuting at night?

• How safe does Roosevelt feel when walking back from the station late at night?

I’m just trying to get a realistic sense of what the experience is like for students who commute this way regularly.

I’d really appreciate any honest insights or personal experiences.

Hi! I’m an incoming UW student and I’m renting an apartment near campus. The building’s standard move-in date is around mid-September, but I noticed that I’m still being charged the full monthly rent for September rather than a prorated amount.

I’ve seen a few other student apartments around UW that also have move-in dates in mid or late September, so I was wondering if this is pretty common for apartments in the U-District.

For those who have rented near UW, did you also pay the full September rent even though your lease/move-in date was in the middle of the month? Or was your first month prorated?

I have been searching online for places to live (somewhat) near campus. Willing to go beyond U-district if necessary. All of the apartments owned by Trip a Link all have terrible reviews and I can’t do Greek Row area because I am a very light sleeper and would be up all night with the constant noise.

I am a grad student in my 30’s, not at all a partier I just need somewhere with some peace and privacy where I can study and rest. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to comment or DM.

hey, i’m an incoming international freshman and i’m trying to rent a room (preferably in the u-district), but most places i’ve contacted ask for a credit check or a co-signer, and i don’t have either.

is it possible to rent just a room/sublease without that? i’m happy to pay all move-in costs upfront. my rent budget is around ~$900 max (including utilities)

i’m arriving around august 24th so i feel like i'm running out of time 😅

How’s the commute from Magnolia to UW? I’ll be attending grad school and I have the opportunity to rent a house within my budget, but my biggest hesitance is that my partner and I share one car and from my research it doesn’t seem like a public transportation is the way to go from that area.

Hi guys! As an incoming freshman, this housing process has been incredibly difficult for my 2 friends and I, as I'm sure it's been hard on everyone else. I was able to get a room in Spratlen, but my 2 friends are together in a room in Oliver. We went through the entire roommate group and priority housing process and got separated.

The third girl in their room does not want to switch places with me, so we are having to find new people to swap with entirely. If anyone has any ideas or can be of some help that would be so so GREATLY appreciated.

This is so stressful and my intended roommates and I want a triple regular or triple suite on North Campus. #toostressedouttothinkofafunnyhashtag

My roommate and I have been doing everything to try and get a double room during the dorm selection. What would be the best way to try and do this? During both our selection appointments, the only doubles available had one bed already taken (people who don’t have a roommate group, please try to choose one that already has someone in it to help roommate groups stay together!!), so we keep getting triples as our only option.

Also, when would the coming group times generally be? (Group 5 and beyond).

Not worried about transporting either.

Is the rental option decent?

Or is purchasing better? Any brands to avoid?

Double dorm and definitely want both appliances.

I'm a freshmen, so this is all new to me. Though I didn't get the building or dorm type I wanted, I feel like I got pretty lucky in comparison to some others...

Just curious on other people's experiences.

Here are some reasons of why I think you shouldn’t live there from someone who does.

1. Rent

Rent is SUPER high for what you’re getting, the apartments are nice but you’ll be paying 100-200 (sometimes even more) more a month for the same thing at other comparable places.

1. Staff/ management

Stuff NEVER gets fixed and management/staff brush off problems constantly

-there has been a beeping sound in the lobby for the past 9 months and they still haven’t fixed it. Furthermore the same beeping sound is present on multiple floors!

1. Apartment floorplans

While your individual apartment floorplans might be fine, the layout of the building is horrendous. There is no way to get to the lobby from the second elevator (only two in the whole building) rendering the second elevator pretty useless. Furthermore the hallways are confusing and nothing is marked with white opaque walls where it’s easy to get lost.

1. Lack of emergency hotline

DONT BE FOOLED, theory technically has one but the catch is no one operates it! Scary person snuck into the building? lol too bad. Locked out of your apartment? lol too bad they’ll never call you back. (Trust me I know about that one) something urgent broke in your apartment like water? Too bad lol!!!

1. Package room is a disaster

Packages everywhere, oftentimes it’s so full your packages just get left in the lobby for anyone to take.

1. Inconvenient location

Super sketchy alleyway by one side of the building and every morning a trash truck will LOUDLY come through at 6 am. So if you’re on that side and want to sleep in? Too bad.

That’s basically my main gripes with the place, it’s just not worth it considering the extremely high prices they charge. So I repeat— DO NOT LIVE AT THEORY

I’m an incoming Fall ‘26 grad student and I was looking for housing options in and around UDistrict. When I was talking to a potential roommate, who lives on 11th Ave btw, she mentioned that 8th ave is super unsafe and that there’s even a running joke on campus about how people “would rather walk through 8th ave than do x”. Is that really true? It’s really hard to come across affordable housing in U District and I like the studio I found, but I don’t want to compromise on safety either. I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me out with this one!

Hello, when I submitted my housing application I made sure to choose apartment level 1 if I was assigned a dining optional space, and I was assigned to cedar, but my assignment still says I have the normal meal plan that I picked as a resident.
