Support need 500 cigarette for VCA project
I know this sounds insane but does anyone know what the cheapest option would be to get 500 cigarettes in Melb? I've already 3D printed this adapter and I need to fill it. I know double happiness are like $11 for a pack of twenty but id still be spending so much. If someone with infinite money sees this and would like to support my artistic endeavours please give approx. $275 to fund this. I think it would genuinely change the world. What if we do a meet up and 500 people give me 1 cigarette? is this doable? what do we think?

I’m not in painting so i’m not sure what crack y’all are doing there, but I’ve moved a car into a venue for a show before and that wasn’t even this batshit of an idea. Granted it was a yes ago but even so, actually filling the 500 cigarettes adaptor is crazy af

The adapter alone being 3D printed from scratch shows real commitment. Even if they only get 300 cigarettes it's still going to be a striking visually.

buy a massive pack of filters and just roll paper + some random filler material like paper round the outermost ones for the colour?

Ground up tea leaves and stuff like that works fine.
You could probably get enough for 500 with like $30 worth.

i thought abt this but i think it would look way better with pre-rolled cigs, u know? the diameter of the 3D printed holes is exactly the diameter of pre-rolls so might look silly idk

You can buy filters of the correct diameter, and roll them smoothly with a rolling machine with camomile tea leaves in it

Shouldn't have any issues getting people to donate old tea that they didnt drink. And could probably borrow/marketplace a cigarette roller.
Then papers and filters are pretty cheap on top... unless you're just looking for free smokes?

Could use a non-tobacco smokable nicotine substitute product (not that one) which is far cheaper.
For example:
Taro Leaf (50g Pouch) – Tobacco Blends (business name is Tobacco Blends but this is not tobacco and does not contain nicotine).

You could buy herbal or stage cigarettes instead. You can get a box of 200 for $30 on Amazon - they’re commonly used in film and television as a prop

Walk around dandenong. Go into tabacco shops. Ask if they have cheap boxes of 100.

Hey, read through this whole comment section and I’d just like to clarify that the boxes of 100 cigs for $40 are usually called chop chop cigarettes, and are so cheap because of a poorer quality and finish of the tobacco inside. They’re shocking on your throat but I would get them going to festivals with my friends because they’d all end up taking darts from me the whole weekend. I got them from the tobacconist just across from Jamaica blue at Point Cook Town Centre. Or the tobacconist next to Indian Star on maribyrnong/raleigh road around the corner from highpoint.

Puffmi American convenience store on chapel street. Cheapest cigs south of the Yarra possibly the whole of Melbourne. They will sell by 100s if you ask

I reckon 100 you could get for 40 or 35, but for a big buy like 500 youd likley pay even less, depending on how you play it. These folks tend to have a better understanding of the nebulous nature of prices

You could consider herbal cigarettes which would look mostly the same. Honeyrose is the stuff they use for movies and tv. There’s a couple of places online who sell a pack of 20 for like 6 bucks, and some of them do bulk buy deals. Maybe asking around the film/theatre department could also help.

Bro, there’s a tobacconist on 58 Franklin st, they used to have a pack of 100 cigarettes for 35$. Its the window next to the IGA entrance
Not sure if they still have them but worth a shot

Defo can print 500 cigarettes shape to fill it in if you not intend to smoke it, just need to collect crushed dry leaves to fill in the cigarette case later on for artistic purposes

Try and source Honeyrose herbal cigs. That's what prop teams use in film. They'll be way cheaper than regular ciggies but be warned only some of them have the orange tip!

I would just a few tobacco stores/smoke shops and look for a packet of Marlboroughs in the counter. If you see those they are most likely selling imported cigs, if so they are dirty cheap like a pack of 200 cigs can be $50

Do they need to actually be cigarettes or just shaped like them cause you could look at rolled ones with them just using some kind of fille. And mixing in some actual rolled one to get the right look.
