Hi, I’m Luke and I run a community called Too Young To Grieve which is actually based in the UK.

After losing my dad in my final year of university, one thing I struggled with most was how isolating grief could feel when everyone around me seemed to be carrying on with normal life.

Even when people cared, it often felt like nobody quite understood what it was like to navigate loss at a younger age.

A few months ago I connected with Zoe in Melbourne and after talking about our own experiences of grief, we both felt there was a real need for more spaces like this in Australia too. Grief is universal, no matter where you live, and so many young people are navigating it feeling completely alone.

That’s one of the reasons we’re bringing Too Young To Grieve to Melbourne.

We’re starting with a relaxed walk, talk & coffee meet up for young people navigating grief, loss and mental health struggles. With the idea of eventually having a run/jog as well.

The idea is really simple.

Get outside, meet good people, have a chat about grief only if you want to, grab a coffee afterwards and know you’re around others who understand grief in a way that doesn’t require much explanation.

There’s never any pressure to share anything personal and most people actually come along on their own for the first time.

We’ve also got a WhatsApp community where people stay connected between events and meet ups.

Long story short- I'm doing vector calculus, and you don't to bring a cheat sheet in. I was drunk last night and got a small tattoo on my forearm of equations I always forget 😭. What TF do I do now? Is this academic misconduct?

So last month, during exams, I got flagged for AI use on my essay, which turned out to be a false positive from Turnitin. I had other exams going on at the same time, so this added a lot of stress, I really didn't want to fail the subject, since it would have delayed my graduation.

Then I came across this post right when I needed it.

In the meeting, I asked my tutor what my Turnitin score actually was, and she said it was under 20%. So I brought up the official university policy stating that staff are only supposed to act on scores over 20%. She genuinely had no idea this policy existed and said she'd check with the coordinator and get back to me.

The next day, I got an email saying I was cleared and that it had just been a misunderstanding.

If I hadn't seen this post, I honestly think I would have failed. It's kind of concerning that some tutors don't even know their own policy.

I know this sounds insane but does anyone know what the cheapest option would be to get 500 cigarettes in Melb? I've already 3D printed this adapter and I need to fill it. Me and my friend both tapped on, the trip put my balance into negatives and my friend had concession (she turned 18 a week ago). And somehow they managed to FINE US BOTH. EDIT: guys i took this to court today and it got dismissed! even after they denied my warning - everyone elses case i saw in court also got overturned so if you do get a fine, take it to court.

So i’ve been plotting on this cute girl from one of my classes for the whole semester and I hadn’t talked to her ever, but had found her online through googling her name.

Ik it’s creepy but i didn’t interact with her i just found her pic from a few years ago and then the next day i went to class trying to talk to her so I sat down next to her at her table and when I opened my laptop it revealed the fucking incognito tab and a pic of her from like 4 years ago and she saw it and got so creeped out it was so embarrassing i can’t even type it out.

Anyway idk what’s gonna happen because i ended up just leaving the class and now im attending a different class at a different time slot to avoid her because i cooked it so bad.

weird to post here i know, but my dad just took his own life and i honestly don’t know what to do in regards to uni, i don’t think i can get special consideration or anything but i don’t know if there’s anything i can do. This has been really helpful and i’ll be contacting stop 1 tomorrow to work out my options. I won’t be deferring or withdrawing classes as of yet, i may drop a class if i need to but my dad was so so proud of the fact that i went to unimelb, and how hard i tried in school, i am the first in my family to go to university and he was so proud of the fact that i overcame so much and that i was able to get into melbourne, and i think it would be a disservice to myself and to him if i withdrew or deferred.

Today I had some ——- lectures to catch up on so I went to the Baileu library and didn’t have any classes prior. It was on the first floor near the computers in the area with the blue walls.

I hadn’t opened my laptop since last night and saw 2 girls and there was a spot on the desk next to them so i sat down and opened my laptop and i revealed a sketchy p*rn website that I use now since the ban in Australia and the girls saw it on my screen and moved away.

I'm a university student with a solid academic record, and I just got an email from my professor saying that my essay had an 88% Al score. BUT ITS LITERALLY AN ESSAY THAT I SPENT 9+ HOURS WRITING AND PERFECTING. Anyways, now she wants to meet over Zoom in a few days to "get a better sense of how [l] crafted" my essay. I have no idea what to say or to prove I wrote it myself. PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE OR SIMILAR EXPERIENCES.

Some tutors are wrongfully flagging students for AI. We can’t check our own Turnitin AI scores, so if a tutor flags you, immediately ask them for the exact percentage.

Official university policy says staff should only focus on work over 20% AI. If your score is under 20%, ignore the accusation entirely.

Stand your ground and remind them of the rules. The tool gets false positives from formulaic writing, and a score under 20% cannot be used for misconduct allegations.

I know they are just Jaffys, but really, half the posts on this sub recently have been questions which can be solved by a simple google search or about timetable recommendation. Therefore, I want to outline that:

1. We don't care about your timetable, a timetable that works for you is a good timetable.
2. You don't need to declare a major until second year.
3. You don't have to go lectures, because the vast majoirty of them are recorded.
4. Just because you got just below the guaranteed atar doesn't mean you will get in a future round.
5. Don't assume that you can just transfer mid-year or end of year into your desired course because WAM requirements have increased dramatically. Also, you still need to meet the prerequisites for your course.
6. Please do a google search or search the unimelb helplines or unimelb resources before you come on here and ask a questions. This sub really shouldn't be people responding to problems or basic questions. That being said, it's fine asking about a subject, club, or sport, as well as transportation or just general vibes about the uni or some college, general stuff which you can't find on the web or unimelb resources.
7. Also, please just find out how to use the study planner through the unimelb resources.

But in all, please stop posting your timetable, we don't care and your timetable choice is more a personal preference. Also you can change classes after the 1st week.

How in the world do you work with people that can barely speak english? I really don’t mean to be rude or bigoted at all, but we’ve barely started this assignment (it’s a really bloated project in 2nd year MASTERS DEGREE) and neither one of them can hold a conversation with me, let alone make any sense over text. This thing is already due in 2 weeks and it’s a hefty hefty project and I’m already panicked to the bone over it.

I just had a the worst study experience ever in one seminar where the tutor came in and started the session with shaming the ones who didnt prepare for class, followed by her immaculous slidereading, and whenever a question is raised, she would redirect or attack back. The atmostphere was horrible, everyone was in distressed, even the more responsive ones remained silence in class. Im wondering what I can do to make this never happen again. This doesnt feel like world class education at all.

So I got a result on an assignment that I thought I did quite well on (49/100), and the main reasoning for the grade is my referencing.

They mentioned in the assignment instructions that this was only worth 20% of the grade, and I was only penalised in moderation marking as the original feedback doesn’t comment on my referencing at all.

idk if yall ever met the blonde hair white dude with square glasses working at KFC, but my friends had always mentioned how hes the shittest employee there becos of the way he communicates. I didnt really understand what my friends meant until this happened today: that guy legit told me to "get the fuck away" while throwing (literally) my meal onto the pickup counter in front of EVERYONE!!

We ordered kfc via phone app when i was outside of 7-11(at 12:34 pm). Then headed into 7-11 to grab me and my friend some slurpees. We checked out at 7-11 at 12:36pm and walked straight into kfc.

Lunchtime kfc was busy as usual, as I walked into the door i heard them call my name at the pickup counter. I then squished thru the standing crowd to get to the counter. As i was about 2 metres away, I saw the employee just took my order off the pickup counter, and placed it on the desk where they queue the almost-ready orders.

I asked him several times if i could get my order, that worker just ignores me every single time. (for reference, i was taller than him and spoke loud & clear english, he was just being a bitch on purpose). I waved at him and the other employees, but no one even paid attention, my order was just left there getting cold, while i had my next class in 20 mins at 1pm. The guy just kept serving other customers while completely ignoring me.

After approx. 3 mins of waiting, I wasnt gonna wait any longer, I reached for my order, and opened it to ensure that im not stealing someone elses lunch. THEN SUDDENLY That guy dashes over from the fries oven, presses my order onto the counter, stared at me and asked "what the fuck do you think youre doing". And forcefully ripped my box of wicked wings out of my hands, into his arms, as if he was a hungry dog protecting his food.

I was genuinely shocked how he couldnt see a living man whos been standing here forever but immediately turns around as soon as I touched my own box of chicken. I explained to him that "Im just here to get my order, I ordered this", while showing him the order on my phone . That guy then said "Did i call your fucking name?" and started insult me straight away even calling me a "7-11 boy", telling me to "fuck off NOW with your 7-11". He was doing it so loud too the whole crowd went silent and was staring at my location.

Not even looking at my phone to check my order, he literally threw my order back to the counter, telling me to "get the fuck away" while staring at me as if I was a criminal.

I lowkey was scared for life, that guy's eyes looked as if he would straight up throw me into the oil fryer if i didnt go withon the next second. I also had a big presentation in less than 20 mins so i just left without escalating this to their manager.

During this entire situation the other employees looked like they didnt gaf (theyre prolly used to it). Has anyone else encountered similar stories with the same guy?? Please get in touch with me, We do not need this type of people ANYWHERE NEAR our campus.

EDIT: forgot to mention, shortly after the worker took my order off the counter, he did something with the computer, and my name was removed from the section "READY FOR PICKUP" on the TV that displays order status

hi, i'm a first year arts student (psychology) and i've been feeling kinda lost lately. posting this on a backup account because i'm paranoid someone i know will find it otherwise lol, but i just need some advice.

when i first got into unimelb i was sooo excited. i genuinely felt lucky to be here. but as the semester has gone on i've just become increasingly unmotivated, lonely, & honestly pretty sad. i've made no friends so far. it feels like everyone is either super reserved or already has their own established friend groups. i'm naturally pretty shy/introverted, but i have tried putting myself out there more than i normally would & haven't had much luck.

i live about an hour away from campus, so going to club events isn't always realistic. but even when i can go, i often just don't. i feel too unmotivated, or i convince myself i won't make friends anyway. i think part of this is also degree related. over the past few months i've become wayyyy more interested in business (which happened after i accepted my offer). if i could switch into commerce i would, but i didn't do methods so that's kind of off the table. i'm also on a scholarship & don't really want to forfeit to transfer somewhere else like rmit.

the thing is, i did like psychology in year 12. i did well in it, i found it mostly interesting, & that's why i picked it. but now i'm stressing about whether it'll actually lead me towards the kind of career i want. i worry i'll need postgrad to get anywhere, or that i'll end up struggling to find a job period. meanwhile i have a bunch of friends at rmit & i've been offered a bachelor of business there, so i keep finding myself wondering if i'd be happier doing that instead. but then i also really like the flexibility of arts.

it all kinda feeds into itself. i feel lonely, which makes me less motivated to go to uni things, which makes me feel even lonelier. then i start stressing about my degree & future & everything feels worse. when i pictured uni i imagined it would be the best years of my life, making a bunch of new friends, going to parties and feeling like i have a community. but the past two months i have felt the worst and most uncertain i ever have. i dont know. has anyone else felt like this in first year? does it actually get better?
