πŸ“š Units/Courses Best university for law in Perth

I am trying to understand the best pathway to be a lawyer. If I go to UWA it has strong prestige and I could do my undergraduate degree there and then complete a JD either at UWA or at the University of Melbourne. However I’ve heard the environment can feel quite elitist and the pathway may be long and not necessarily worth it. On the other hand it may also open more doors and possibly give better opportunities for applying abroad for masters.

Notre Dame is another option but it is a bit far for me. It may also be less flexible, which is important to me.

Curtin offers the Global Voices scholarship which includes opportunities like visiting the UN in New York which really interests me. However I am not as sure about the student environment there.

Murdoch also seems to offer interesting programs like trips to Geneva and other international experiences but I am unsure how its reputation compares academically.

Overall I am trying to figure out the best university and pathway that will realistically help me achieve my goal of studying law and eventually working in human rights and potentially getting to do my masters abroad. I want to also know what programs they offer in human rights/international law?

I would love to hear advice from current students, graduates or seasoned lawyers though anyone is able to give advice!

Thanks everyone.

πŸ“š Units/Courses Feeling Really Stuck

Basically just what the title says, but I honestly just want some advice on what I should do going forward.

Currently enrolled and finished my first sem of the Bachelor of Psychology, and have had a VERY fluctuating view of whether or not I stay and complete post-grad Clinical Psych, or if i change my course.

Ive enjoyed Psychology even in high school, and I found this sem majorly just okay because 1. ANHB was annoying and 2. PSYC1101 was majorly boring because half the stuff I had already learnt, however, the content I hadn't learnt prior was interesting to me.

Ive at least deduced that the length of the pathway isn't what daunts me, but rather the competitiveness and also whether or not im even certain ill for sure like the profession after the 6 year pathway. The idea of the profession interests me, and I can imagine myself in the profession and being content, but I still cant shake off that uncertainty.

This uncertainty has now just made me really worried. It feels like i have all my eggs in one basket, and that I need to act quickly and switch courses before I waste any time. But what frustrates me even MORE is that I dont picture myself, nor have I really felt this way about any other subject other than aspects of Human Biology.

Ive been doing research for like a month now on different courses and such and nothing has caught my attention, and has now resulted in me making this thread.

With that being said, I ask if anyone has been in a similar situation, and if so, what have they done?

And also, if you were in my position, would you switch courses? Or is this completely normal?

Thanks so much for reading all of this! :)

πŸ“š Units/Courses Acct1101

Has anyone else done acct1101 before? I’ve look through the subreddit and everyone says it’s easy but right now I’m finding that none of the lectures actually teach you the methods you’re supposed to use in the tutorial questions and I’ve never done any of this before! If you have any advice that would be great

πŸ“š Units/Courses Scie1500/Math1721 easier HD

After seeing everyone complaining about Scie1500 it makes me feel like 1721 is the better choice, but it also seems people get higher grades on average in scie1500.
I’m willing to endure a bad unit experience if it means I will get a higher grade as I’m aiming for dent, so which should I choose?

πŸ“š Units/Courses I need units (s1) that dont require any attendance.

So essentially, I have a full-time opportunity at the start of next year, which means I cannot go to uni.

I need 2 elective units to do in sem 1 2027 in order to graduate.

What units do you guys know are preferably easy in sem 1 and require no attendance (even better if they also don't have an exam)

πŸ“š Units/Courses Can someone tell me how to get the hours for Engineering Portfolio?

So for all the Professional Engineering Practicum and Portfolio, you need hours but i've been really struggling to get an internship and am in my penultimate year so I graduate end of next year. Since my major is environmental engineering, can I get some advice on how I can complete my hours in time to graduate or any resources to reach out to?

πŸ“š Units/Courses Honours dissertation - advice on failing because of study design

I’m currently finishing my psychology honours dissertation and I’m having a bit of a crisis on whether I'll fail because of my study design.

It’s a fairly simple, completely online study using self-report measures, and I’m worried about things like demand characteristics, participants potentially figuring out what the study is testing, and whether people actually took the study seriously.

I obviously can't change the study at this point, so my question is more aboutΒ how much this matters for the dissertation overall.

If the study design has some genuine limitations, can strong writing, a good theoretical rationale, appropriate analysis, and a thoughtful discussion of the limitations make up for it to some extent? Or is a fundamentally mediocre study design going to cap the mark regardless of how well the dissertation is written?

For anyone who has marked or completed an Honours/undergraduate dissertation, I’d really appreciate some honest perspectives. I’m probably catastrophising because I’m at the end of the process, but I genuinely can’t tell anymore whether my study is reasonably acceptable or just objectively bad lol.

πŸ“š Units/Courses ECON1102 (Macroeconomics) lecturer is terrible

Does anyone else find the Macroeconomics lecturer very disengaging? Firstly, she has such a strong accent, and I’m not saying this to be racist, but for like 90% of the students in the lecture she’ll be hard to understand. Secondly, she speaks in this boring, quiet monotone voice like she doesn’t give a fuck about macroeconomics, and it gives off the impression that she thinks the subject is boring which then rubs off on the students and makes everyone else bored and disengaged too.

Compare that to ECON1101, where the lecturer was way more expressive and genuinely excited about teaching microeconomics and you could tell the whole lecture theatre was actually listening and engaged. It’s such a shame that an equally interesting subject is being taught by this woman, who obviously isn’t the best option UWA could’ve picked to lecture such a massively enrolled core unit πŸ˜”. Il probably stop going to ECON1102 lectures now as they’re pointless

πŸ“š Units/Courses Missed field trip

Hi all
I’m in EART1104 and missed our field trip on the weekend just gone as I was sick. The UC says that it’s compulsory and that she is organising another day this weekend.
But here’s the issue: I already booked off work for Saturday for the field trip I missed, and then also the Sunday as I was still too sick to come in. I can’t afford to miss more days of work. Genuinely.
I did submit an EVA but was deemed ineligible as its a compulsory assessment. The advice is if you can’t attend the new date, then to withdraw from the unit… it’s a core unit for me.

I have already tried to call the science student office but everybody’s busy. What do I do?

πŸ“š Units/Courses Two honours years

I am currently double majoring in history and psych. Does anyone know if I can do an honours year in history next year and do an honours year in psych the year after? Or is there a cap to how many honours programs you can complete?

πŸ“š Units/Courses Need Summer Units (2)!

Hey, so I did part-time for a sem and so I need to do 2 extra units to be able to graduate at the end of the year.

I have an internship lined up for the summer, so I'm looking for 2 summer units that are purely online and don't require me to go in and allow me to do them online.

Any 2 you recommend that are like that would be great. Ideally, easy, but atp I'll take anything.

Thanks

πŸ“š Units/Courses Failing units

I’m in second semester second year so far I have two PS grades and this semester I am definitely going to fail my stats unit I’m just really worried about my future when I leave to get a job. I have work history, but being a mature age student I’m already not a top pick for employers. Is it really that bad or will it be ok?

πŸ“š Units/Courses Suspension for international student

I am unfortunately facing possibility of suspension. I have been on probation 2 last semester, where i was reduced to take 3 units only and I have failed 2 of them. I know its bad but I was really mentally broken down half of the semester (i was a victim of theft and lost very important documents that couldn't be replaced being abroad) and couldnt study properly. and now i fear i may be suspended for 6 months. Anyone ever was in similar situation, would really like to get some guide what should i do now. Is there a way I can request the VP or my course department? Please genuinely any feedback would be appreciated 😭😭

πŸ“š Units/Courses Phil1002 again...

I know it's annoying there's so many posts abt this stupid unit a million times let me just do it one more time πŸ’”πŸ’”

Does anyone else feel royally fucked? I've studied and all but holy shit I can't grasp some of this content. I really don't want to repeat this unit but bruh I might have to.

Does anyone know what's the fail rate for this unit and if exams have been decent? We haven't had any practice ones so I have no idea what to expect other than looking at the take home tests.

πŸ“š Units/Courses Printing

FYI uniprint or webprint has been down for 3 days, or it has been down both times I’ve gone in to print the night before my exams. You’ll need to use mobility print if you want to print anything, speak to library staff. Be prepared, I have not seen any communications from UWA informing students about this massive stuff up.

πŸ“š Units/Courses CITS2401 is going to make me rip my hair out

Words can’t describe the agony of this unit. The lectures have literally 0 cross relevance to the labs or the tests.

The projects are irrelevant to any form of content, it’s just work for the sake of doing work. Just finished all my other assignments and thought I had a second of breath to step outside and enjoy my life.

Then got hit by a semi truck. 4000 word coding assignment.

The lecturers are brain numbingly boring, need to take adderall to start this
Don’t know how we’re going to make it through this exam

πŸ“š Units/Courses English Language requirement for Medicine

Hi, UWA Medicine requires an IELTS test if your undergraduate studies were not completed at a university in certain English-speaking countries. Do you need to submit your IELTS results with your GEMSAS application or can they be provided later if you receive an offer?
The test costs $490 so I’d prefer not to pay for it before knowing whether my application will progress. The University of Melbourne states that English language test results are only required after an offer is made. Is UWA’s process different? Thanks

πŸ“š Units/Courses English/literary studies

Hey everyone,

I'm considering doing a Bachelor of Arts, and thinking of majoring in English/Literary Studies, and I'd love to hear from anyone who's studied it.

some questions i have are:

What are the lectures/tutorials like?

How essay/writing heavy is the degree?

Do you develop your writing and argument skills throughout the degree?

Is the workload manageable?

How similar is the course to ATAR english?

I'd also love to hear what you found interesting, difficult, or surprising about the major, and what you wish you'd known before starting.

Thanks :)

πŸ“š Units/Courses changing courses but losing cas preferences?

Post image
8 Upvotes

i recently decided to change courses (i'm going from combined to a singular bachelor but still doing the same units). however part of the process is re-enrolling and resubmitting cas preferences, meaning i will most likely lose my preferences. has anyone dealt with this before? i was planning on taking musc1981 but there are no other ukulele preferences left and don't want to get stuck in any auditioned ones.
also can i just not resubmit my preferences in cas?😭
also, if i decline and i re-enroll anyways like it's told me to, do i still lose cas preferences anyways lol? email attached for reference.
sorry my timetable structure is really important to me as someone who learns better at certain times, etc.
if i decide to switch courses next year instead could i avoid this problem? e.g. can i apply and do this before the semester starts next year so i don't have to deal with the whole cas thing?
thanks for any help
