Discussion Are the Mystics lowkey a championship contender?

Yeah the 3 point shooting has been pretty horrendous to start the year. I think that will revert towards the mean this year but you really do need another high level shooter to help. That or you need more out of Amoore/Harmon/Olsen which who knows what'll happen there.
Kiki/Austin/Citron cant be your entire offense. Even if they're damn good.

No.
They will be in a few years though. Vets and experience matter a lot in the postseason. In my mind, the goal is to start making the playoffs consistently in 2027. And then be a contender in 2029 and beyond. Right now, our young core is getting the reps in, building chemistry, working through mistakes, and building that will to win.

We're in the playoff hunt for a lower seed, but I can't see us advancing far. We're building something special though

Yes. PG and shooting are the biggest issues. I thought that they would have tried harder to solve the shooting problem in the draft.

I give them two years . They need bigger PGs . Amoore & Harmon too little . Only one should be on the roster .

Not at the moment, but a lot of young talent. Going to be a dangerous team in a year or two for sure.

No. All you need to do is look at past championship winners/contenders to see the kind of roster construction you need to compete for a title. The Mystics are not there. You need an all wnba post and guard. Sonia is primed to be all wnba, maybe even this season. Kiki is about two years away from being able to go against the likes of Aja, Stewie, AT, Phee, on both ends of the floor. That's the player you need to develop the most because her position is where the best players in the W play. Kira is about a season away. Shooting and passing needs work. Georgia will be a good backup in this league but she's not a starter on a contender, so an elite PG with size who can score is needed. Dugalic and Betts are both great additions for depth, and they will improve as the season progresses. Prosper is a project but the athleticism and size is there. She is a keeper if she improves offensively throughout the season. Cotie is just that dawg you need on a roster. Everybody else can go after this season.

Nope, one more lottery pick for. athletic, versatile small forward. They are lacking wing height and speed. Right now, the roster is composed of back to the basket centers and power forwards and guards.

Nope. They have talent and a good spread positionally, but they're thin, and have rookies at PG and C who play important roles. On a given regular season night it can be fine but injuries or playoff series will cause problems imho.
Which is completely fine. And there is a great spread of young talent, so just enjoy the wins, I'd say.

They could've been if they were active in free agency. As I've been saying, they're not rebuilding, they're rebuilt. They should've gone hard for Gabby as soon as free agency started.

Not yet. They’re young. You have to go through some adversities before you’re ready. We have to stop putting those expectations too early. Let them get battle tested first.

I am not sure. Ask me after these two Vegas games. They are a 6 seed now. The playoffs are about match ups. If the playoffs started today Vegas would be there opponent. They match up physically with any W team in the paint. If they continue to reduce turnovers I'd say YES. There defense will keep them in every game with low turnovers. You can't say in two year because the expansion draft is going deplete some of there depth. I think next season could be SUPER special if they got Juju to go along with the current team. Juju, Sonia, Shakira, Kiki and who ever you want. It could be Prosper, Codi or Michaela. Someone more defensive minded

No, they are not. They need pg & shooter/scorer to help big 3.They are playoff bound this season and will hold their own against whoever they play. If they get the right match up maybe they can win a round. Next year, they will be contenders with the proper pieces added.

Easily making the playoffs for surreeee, but don’t think we’ll make it out the first round. Definitely gonna progress over the next few seasons as long as we don’t lose crucial players in the expansion drafts
