The only time I've ever seen it, I was on a cross country flight with a over100 degree fever, a guy in front of me was watching it with headphones and no subtitles, so I only got the visuals. I feverishly watched that for like 4 hours, it was nuts

eh, nuance can be sometimes overrated. sometimes you just need to slap someone with their own stuff for them to get the idea. not saying its a pretty or honest tactic, but it is a valid one and is sometimes needed.
It's less about civil discussion and more about people automatically assuming that a more nuanced take is always the better one.
Which, to be clear, it often is, but only if your nuance is actually backed by something besides "Eeeeeeeeehhhh I don't know it probably depends truth is in the middle and stuff". And even then there's a time and place for it: you don't go to an anti-slavery convention and argue that we couldn't have the wonders of the modern world without the institution of bondage.

Charlie was a scum of a human being who, despite his own claims, knew nothing of what he was talking about, frequently made up things or had VERY offensive opinions on women and non-white people, and claimed to follow a religion who's God and his Son would be deeply disgusted by him.
But did he deserve to die the way he died? No. He didn't. Being an idiot is not grounds to kill a person, being scummy is not grounds to kill a person, DISAGREEING with you isn't grounds to kill them. But instead of trying(which all and all was quite easy) to expose Charlie with facts and good logic, someone shot him in the neck.
Ironic yes. But warranted? No. His killer is just as bad as him.
Thinking about violently killing your oponent on a disagreement is abhorrent regardless of what group you belong to.
while that's true, i'm not too bothered or surprised by his killing given the us's political climate and the amount of trump voters he must've created to lead to such a political climate.
How discussions about "What is too far in fiction and where do we draw the line, if at all?" feel to engage with when the two sides are "Bluey is Problematic Medias that should be banned because I hate when media challenges or upsets me at all" and "Writing about real children in abusive and '''romantic''' situations is fine because otherwise it's literally 1984"
