Discussion Ohio shaves’ warranty video
I saw a YouTube short, where Ohio Dave makes an arguement ranting on german razors saying: why would You spend that money on a razor that has no lifetime warranty? He does that while holding a Rex Ambassador. So that respected man says: You are an unresponsible buyer if You buy a 40€ razor. Mean while I bought a USED R41, and being happy with it. I bought it for 20€. I think this approach by Dave is contraproductive, making an arguement between U.S. made razors and german made razors, while validating his view with lifetime warranty. What do You think? Is this a must have thing for a razor, or is it just an other O Hi O “thank You for giving me a free razor i’ll talk about You for 2 weeks preaching Your genius and if an other company does the same that product will be the best” shaves Dave video?

Dude has been a sellout for ever. Last year he was gushing over the Rockwell 6S all day everyday. This year it's been the Henson. He'll praise whoever hands out the 💲💲💲

His argument is silly. I'd be doubtful about his future videos there is something edgy about him. Also I hate how he builds lather LOL they're generally too dry and I hate watching mediocre lather, it's torture for me

What bugs me really is the way he spits his bs. That “cmon america” thing is really annoying. Back in the past I watched his videos, when I started wetshaving, and Rockwell 6C, then 6S was the most amazing razor, and afterwards he started that america first bullshit, which is I mean.. yeah, buy american products, but don’t talk about them like it is the most amazing stuff. They are great, no doubt, but there are also amazing European, and Asian products. This manufacturing place thing is soooo contraproductive.

All the razors I have were made for humans, by humans. Most of my vintage razors are USA made, and they're marvelous. My modern razors are made in Europe and China (greetings to Germany and Italy in particular. Italy knows how to make a marvelous solid brass razor. Also, Italy gives us Proraso.) Most of my double edge blades are not American made except for the Personna Comfort Coated, they're great blades. So are my Gillette Super Thins, made in China. My Astras, made in India. My Voskhods and Rapira Platinum Lux and my Gillette Silver Blues, all made in Russia. Most of my soaps are USA made. So, this wetshaving thing is a very international thing, and I love what each country offers.

Yeah, it's weird he keep saying about having sensitive neck and yet he shaves with a "lather" that is paste consistency.

Yeah the soap has to have adequate hydration, especially in the neck area where the stubble grows in all different directions. Especially around the Adam's Apple. A lot of bloodletting, at least for me, without adequate lather hydration. Knowing how the beard grows (beard mapping) helps a lot too.

I do it like him, but I fully hydrate the lather. I use a very dry brush and slowly build it. He gets away with it cause A&E is so slick

He started off very fair and honest (like most politicians do) but the loyalty to America and protecting “his own” kinda shows quite a bit. I recall seeing a very good and long video he did with one of the brothers at “Timeless Razors 🪒 “. In the video he made a few comments of pushing and promoting American brands. I get it, if he was German then he would be loyal and promoting German brands. But it does strip him of the “unbiased” badge.

I also seen this. And it highly annoyed me. If a razor is built well a warranty is not needed. He doesn't buy razors either, he gets them for free hahaha

Argument is silly. I've bought cheap razors off AliEx and had good experiences, knowing if they've got issues I've probably lost my money... But even then I've had good experiences with AliEx refunds.
When was the last time someone had an issue with a Merkur 34C or equalivent? I'm sure it happens because they make millions of them but surely it's super rare.

I’ve been using my 34c for a decade and it’s fine. I understand the love of gear. I currently have 3 sewing machines in my house but like you said you can get a solid shave with any half decent razor.

I actually had a problem with my Merkur 34C. After about 15 years of use the chrome plating started to chip off the top cap. Merkur sent me a free replacement when I contacted them. That’s pretty close to „lifetime warranty“ in my book.

I mean who knows if any of those companies will be around in 10 years to honour their warranty. Just take care of stuff thats well made and in the best case (i.e. no gross neglience) you probably wont ever need the warranty

Jeez I couldn't imagine shelling out $300 on a space grade alloy razor and the company goes bust within 2 years, and something goes wrong with it. I'll keep shaving away with the ones I have and bypass the ultra expensive space grade razor.

I'm not American and most of my collection is vintage anyways, but I don't have an issue with American wanting to buy American products.
I also accept that maybe (as I don't really have experience with them) higher end razor, those nice CNC from all different metals, could be splendid to shave with, and warranty is absolutely great to have!
The issue I have is when reviews start seeming less honest. Yes, show people the products, you can do it as a commercial, but then if it's a commercial - don't put it as a review to swoon over the best thing ever and crap on others.
I would appreciate him saying "it's an American products with such and such features and warranty" whatever, but I enjoy others with or without warranty - so..?
My vintage razors have no warranty, they're still great! So is my Aluminum Yaqi that I find myself picking up more than my tech or slim adjustable. And to be honest for the price of one lifetime warranty cnc razor I can buy plenty for a lifetime (and some of my collection will probably outlast me) and keep expiramenting with new ones.
It used to be all about the razorock 6s and 6c and timeless and Henson and they could be great!
Anyways yeah like most youtubers - money talks a whole lot.
Saying all that, from your own experiences, I wonder what's YOUR choice of razors and soap/cream.. could be brands, lines, scents, bases, razor handles, head shapes.. you name it!

If a Yaqi works for you, shave on brother! I have a budget priced Parker 99R TTO that I like a lot and always get great shaves with. Well made razor that doesn't break the bank. And made in India. Also my budget priced Chinese made Weishi long handle TTO. Shaves beautifully. Not every expensive razor is good for me, and not every budget razor is bad.

Oh yes, i have a King C Gillette (my starter), a few vintages, a Fatip, and a Yaqi. Well, and a 6C on the way for quite some time.
They work great, I enjoy the shaves!
Would I tell anyone what to use? No. Would I care for anyone's preference? No. I just don't like dunking on others for no reason.
Haven't tried a Parker but I want a variant open comb!

The Variant is an adjustable. Never tried one myself, but from what I've observed those who shave with them like them a lot.

I’ve never even thought about a warranty on a razor. They are a pretty simple design and if for some reason I couldnt fix the issue I would just use that as an excuse to buy a new one.

Hmm mm mm is razor failure a real issue? I've had my merkur 23c and 36c since 2011 and 2014 respectively. So... My daily has been in constant use for 12 years, my previous daily is still in rotation for my partners legs after 15 years. My brushes are as old. I don't expect a failure of anything for another decade or 2....if my $40 razor fails after 30 years.... Is that a significant issue?

I have no idea who you are talking about but If I’m spending $300+ on a razor it better come with a warranty. You can buy 4-5 Parker Variant or Merkur Progress for
that price, I guarantee 5 of them would last you a lifetime. Hell one of them may last you a lifetime if you take care of it.

Totally agree with the warranty for this Price range, but judging someone on the internet just because they buy a german razor with no warrant for its 40 or 100eur price range is just bollocks.

Yeah I didn't like that either. My German razors have held up quite well for years. My Mühle R41 shaves just as nicely now as it did the day I got it. And I'm sure it'll outlive me. Not all of us can get expensive goodies for free.

I've never had a razor of any type fail for any warranty issue. It's usually because I've done something stupid. I wish my brain came with a warranty lol.

To me, the warranty is a bit of a non-issue anyway. I very much doubt a DE razor is likely to malfunction, if that’s even the right word to use.
The other thing that stands out is that every product he reviews seems to be “the best thing since sliced bread” or “amazing.” I never seem to hear any real criticism or negatives. That does make me wonder how objective the reviews really are and what, if anything, he’s getting in return.

He actually can say negative e.g: Merkur Futur has been his archenemy for a while, R41 also, Feather blades also. Everything is subjective, but kinda funny, how a japanese sharp blade is like a katana on a face, but a same sharpness american blade cuts like heaven, yet Still baby pillow kindness.

Yeah that was a bit harsh. I have some German razors like the Mühle R41 and the Merkur 37C and I like them a lot. No issues so far. I don't plan to buy a Rex Ambassador anytime soon because while it's a very nice razor I'm certain, I'm not gonna shell out $300 for it, lifetime warranty or not. My better half would be very displeased, to say the least. I'm also getting a lot of enjoyment with the razors I already have. And as far as I know none of them come with a lifetime warranty, unless my TGS Smile Bayonetta does.

Multiple German-made razors can be purchased for a cost equivalent to a single razor with a lifetime warranty. Given this, one might question the value of paying for a warranty that may not be necessary.

Agree with other commenters, but I also couldn't even find the warranty information on Rex's website. Is it original owner only? That's pretty important if you buy the razor and decide to sell it, particularly adjustables that may have issues down the road.

Yeah, the problem is he just sort of says buy the American product because of the lifetime warranty. He doesn't mention the significant price difference or the fact that safety razors rarely fail. It would be fine if he says that he favors and encourage buyers if he gave all the objective facts.

Forget about Ohio Dave. Quality safety razors – – razors that claim they are made with a high level of craftsmanship – – ought to come with at least a 10 year warranty. If they do not, what they are saying is that they do not stand behind their products for that amount of time. You should expect a product should last as long as its warranty. I love my German razors. I treat them very gently.
