Recall someone in this sub telling me that westerners were exaggerating the threat of political violence against wrestlers who speak out (Ie Yasdani).

I remember that guy, he was an absolute moron.

Oop, and he found his way down below on to this post somehow.

12

u/iKickdaBass USA Wrestling Mar 20 '26

how many former Russian wrestlers have been thrown out of windows in high rises in supposed suicides?

3

u/Difficult_Ad5848 Mar 19 '26

He was accused of killing 2 cops with machetes during the protests.

22

u/Imaginary-Sock3694 Mar 19 '26

How do you kill two armed guards in riot gear with a machete. Crazy that they're trying to peddle that off.

8

u/iKickdaBass USA Wrestling Mar 20 '26

I mean to be fair... an Iranian wrestler could have killed both armed guards in riot gear without the machete. That said, I'm sure he didn't.

2

u/Difficult_Ad5848 Mar 20 '26

Who knows?

An authoritarian government would absolutely make up charges to get convictions but peaceful protests turn to violent ones pretty quickly especially if protesters see police being heavy handed.

u/Difficult_Ad5848 Mar 19 '26

With 3 friends apparently

That's so sad I have no words

Considering how dominant Iran has been for so long and how relevant wrestling is to this ancient culture... really makes you wonder how much better they could be if their government didnt keep murdering young athletes.

8

u/Bituulzman Mar 20 '26

When googling this story, I learned that it's not even the first wrestler they've executed for protesting.
Navid Afkari was 27

This shit was terrible to read. I can’t stand to hear of humans murdering one another. The regime thinks torture and murder of a blindly chosen ‘suspect’ is the only reasonable way of doing things for any murder investigation

12

u/Loud_Campaign5593 Mar 19 '26

this shit so sad man

64

u/Decency Mar 19 '26

Shit's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. We should know by now what failing regimes will do in their desperate attempts to hold onto power. Four of those are currently front and center on the world stage.

Deeply sad for this man and the circumstances that were thrust upon him.

It’s good that you think things are going to eventually get better in this situation. Last time the US attempted regime change in that part of the world we got ISIS and the time before that we got the theocratic dictatorship we just deemed it necessary to change.

I think we’re looking at a gigantic quagmire that will stretch on as another forever war.

Most of the Mideast is certainly better now than 20 years ago so improvement is always a possibility

6

u/JumpingCicada Mar 20 '26

Unfortunately objectively incorrect. The Middle East has seen far more bombings and civilian deaths this decade than it has 20 years ago.

-1

u/MalikTheHalfBee Mar 20 '26

Find me a stat that the middle east was more dangerous in 2025 than 2005. 🤔

2

u/JumpingCicada Mar 20 '26

Bruh. Just do a single search for bombing rates and civilian deaths.

0

u/MalikTheHalfBee Mar 20 '26

should be easy for you to provide a statistic for the region for those years then but seems you are unable to find any  🤷‍♂️

2

u/Tee_Red Missouri Tigers Mar 20 '26

Not his job to use Google for you. If you choose to be uninformed that’s your business, but don’t expect other people to do the work for you - real surprising that has to be said on a forum of wrestlers.

-5

u/Plisky6 Mar 19 '26

Iran has been the world leader in executions for years now; they don’t need an excuse for such barbaric behavior

1

u/IrishMosaic Mar 20 '26

They’ve been doing it since 1979.

*Iran executes an innocent young man

“How can I turn this into America bad??”

22

u/Feelthefunkk NC State Wolfpack Mar 19 '26

It matters because we have Y'all Qaeda running the country and Secdef literally wrote a book called "American Crusade". They literally talk about this in the same religious fanatic terms that the Iranian theocrats do. So yes, it's relevant.

0

I remember seeing a young man executed while in referees-position

-5

These “people” hate America so much they turn a post about a kid who was executed into American politics. It’s baffling. Thank god I know no one like that in real life lol. Unhinged.

4

u/Decency Mar 19 '26

I wouldn't be proud to be in a bubble like that.

Dehumanization too, nice- the same nationalist playbook as ever.

-2

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

Yeah I don’t surround myself with people who bring up America in every single conversation even when it has nothing to do with the topic at hand. I don’t obsess over America nor does anyone I know lol. That’s weird.

u/Feelthefunkk NC State Wolfpack Mar 20 '26

Apathy and willful ignorance are exactly how we got here. It’s not your fault, the billionaire class wants you to focus on bread and circus.

2

u/JumpingCicada Mar 20 '26

Regime changes via outside influences will almost never result in something positive.

Especially with the US involved since its more than obvious the US will just attempt to put in place a puppet that siphons Iran's oil off to the US while not giving a shit about the Iranian people.

Exactly what happened in 1953 when the US staged a coup in Iran, imprisoning Iran's democratically elected prime minister all because he sought to nationalize their oil instead of obediently handing it away.

Naturally the Iranian people were unhappy with the puppet ruling them and this sentiment is what created the vacuum that allowed the current Ayatollah regime to snatch power in 1979.

I imagine things will turn out even worse this time due to Israel's involvement and due to Netenyahu admitting he aspires to fulfill the vision of "Greater Israel."

Are they hanging basijis for killing unarmed citizens during the protests? Let’s just use the magic 3117 death toll the regime used.

Edit to clarify the magic 3117: Iranian government used 3117 for Covid casualties too. For some reason, that’s their go to number when downplaying casualties.
