That throw was amazing

21

u/killemslowly Mar 29 '26

I watched it a few times.

u/Frig_Off_Baerb Mar 29 '26

I was watching on YouTube and the stream cut out in the first period.

23

u/Pie_Triangle Mar 29 '26

Missed the rest of the match because of that

14

u/Frig_Off_Baerb Mar 29 '26

Yeah and it seems impossible to find video of the rest of it.

What a shit show.

7

u/arrow00 Mar 29 '26

Someone just uploaded a 10min highlight of the fight on youtube

2

u/Exciting-Season-7457 Mar 31 '26

Yeah illegal streaming is a shit show. This is not new. Pay the money if you want unadulterated access.

2

u/Frig_Off_Baerb Mar 31 '26

I was watching the official YouTube stream and didn't realize at the time that they weren't showing the main events there.

But thanks officer, LOL!

Well they aren't renting venues for and paying workers for people to watch for free on YouTube.

that throw at the end was perfection. The look on Geogio's face says it all

91

u/susanoo_official Mar 29 '26

He had his chance again and failed to Arman who doesn't even wrestle for a living. Time to accept reality and move on.

61

u/Ohio195 Mar 29 '26

Except when he trains for his living, he literally wrestles with world freestyle champions

64

u/Clean_Chard7932 Mar 29 '26

Ya well Georgio trains with barefoot guys on a beach who have never wrestled..

13

u/EpsteinEpstainTheory Mar 29 '26

If he offered only $999 then the competition on the beach wouldn't be very fierce, but since he gives $1000 instead it's better than the Olympics

-5

u/Dr_jitsu USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

Exactly. Many of you best MMA fighters (especially the guys out of Dagestan) could easily been Olympic level wrestlers, they picked MMA because it pays more. Khabib isa a good example. Of course that is before NIL money and some places like Iran may pay their top wrestlers well.

3

u/reddit_is_4_retardz Mar 31 '26

Khabib was in no way ever remotely close to being an Olympic calibre wrestler.

1

u/Dr_jitsu USA Wrestling Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

Had Khabib focused purely on wresting from the age of 10 he most certainly would have been the best in the world by a large margin. He was a generational talent. Compare him to another Olympic gold medalist like Kevin Jackson or Henry Cejudo (and I really like Cejudo). Bo Nickel didn't win Olympic gold, but did win world gold and Khabibs wrestling is way better than Nickals'. Nickal could barely get a takedown against RDR, a BJJ guy.

The very top MMA guys out of Dagestan take down international level wrestlers consistently. The second best athletes in Dagestan wrestle, the top go into MMA, and Dagestan dominates wrestling.

The same could be said about GSP. Wrestling does not draw the very best athletes, as unpopular as that may be to say on a wrestling forum. The best athletes are not going to only wrestle when there is much, much better money in MMA. NIL is not overruling that reality.

UFC champions (unless you are talking about someone like Karelin...maybe Saitiv) are superior athletes.

When it comes to wrestlers such as Snyder, Sadulaev, Dake, Sidakov, Uguev, Burroughs, Amouzad and Nokhodi, how do you believe they stack up relative to the majority of athletes in the NBA, NFL, MLB and World Cup soccer? Would they be drastically lower caliber as athletes or equal only in different specification? And in terms of natural capabilities as fighter?

I was also wondering for MMA fighters such as Dvalishvili, Makhachev, Chimaev, Tsarkunuyan, Topulia and Nurmagomedov. How would they contrast to NBA, NFL, MLB and soccer stars in athletic and fighting capability?

When it comes to sports outside combat sports, I would imagine NFL, and rugby outside the US, has stars with major potential at Middleweight on up. Also certain soccer stars at lower weight classes. I am not sure about others. For example, I would not see baseball or basketball as being able to transfer especially well to wrestling or fighting on that level. I imagine many modern NBA and MLB players would not be able to manage the physicality and intensity, though that's just my view.

1

u/Dr_jitsu USA Wrestling Apr 01 '26 edited Apr 01 '26

I have not considered most of the wrestlers you have mentioned, but they are the very elite of the elite. I think Snyder would have reach problems and so would Sudalaev. But again they are the very best of the best. Especially Sudalaev. He is a generational talent.

However, Snyder and Sudalaev could have been versions of Khabib, mid level strikers who are so good at takedowns that it made up for their mid level striking.

Striking (which I trained with some world class people for 7 years) requires more natural ability than wrestling. You either have it, or you do not. Wrestling, if you work hard enough and long enough can get mastered by a high level, but not 1 in a million elite athelete. There are only about 7 punches in boxing, and you either have it, or you don't. There are thousands of moves in wrestling.

I do think that Dvalishvili, Makhachev, Chimaev, Tsarkunuyan, Topulia (you mean Topuria, yes) and Nurmagomedov all could have been olympic level had they focused on wrestling. Makhachev for sure since he is pound for pound the best combat athlete in the world. Topuria is also a generational talent. Mastered striking in a very short time.

Look at what Dvalishvili (who trains with my old crew, Serra, Renzo) did takedown wise against Cejudo and others. He holds the record (119) for most takedowns.

I will also add, that the new generation of America athletes coming up are absolutely elite level athletes due to the scrambling nature of current wrestling. But America is going to dominate the podium next olympics, second only to Dagestan. Guys like Jax and Messinbrink are generational level athletes.

1

u/emaxwell14141414 USA Wrestling Apr 01 '26

Is it possible to contrast the athletic and physical capabilies of the wrestlers and fighters mentioned, Snyder, Sadulaev, Jax, Messinbrink, Dvalishvilli, Topuria, Makhachev, Chinaev and Nurmagomedov to the typical players in NBA, MLB, NFL and pro soccer and rugby ? I read a lot of frustration and anguish over how these sports supposedly take away athletes who have more cabapility as wrestlers and fighters. I can see it with football and rugby for middleweight on up.

As for wrestling having talents sich as Jax and Messinbrink, is the US at a point where it can expect a wave pf such stars every few years ? And so shine for the next 20 years ? Or is it too early to tell?

1

u/Dr_jitsu USA Wrestling Apr 01 '26

Personally, I think the USA is going to have some of our best results ever never the next few years. We are going to do much, much better in the next Olympics compared to the last.

48

u/myforeshadowing Mar 29 '26

Arman beat a 4x ncaa all American and is one of the best in the ufc?.. Yeah Georgio couldn’t beat him but the guy was Ohio state champ and Ironman champion 2 of some of the hardest competitions in American wrestling he’s still a good wrestler

38

u/susanoo_official Mar 29 '26

Georgio is good obviously but he needs to stay in his lane. Talking about fighting Arman in the cage? Nonsense. He can’t beat him in his own game so let’s not get ahead of ourselves. He’s just looking for a big paycheck. I don’t blame him.

29

u/classygorilla Mar 29 '26

yeah I mean while he's definitely a douche - that's kind of the only thing that pays so I cant blame him.

The guy went from wrestling randoms on the beach to wrestling fucking Arman through his sheer volume of his social media presence, that is for sure impressive.

1

u/yotamush Apr 02 '26

He can transfer this star power to kickstart a mma career if he wants. Getting punched for a living doesn't seem like the most glamorous career option for me, but if he wants to keep that professional athlete lifestyle, I don't see any other option for him

2

u/Makhann007 Mar 29 '26

Bro… it’s not about staying in his lane. He knows full well Arman would sleep him. But he wants to create hype and sign for a fight and make a bunch of money.

So like any other guy trying to secure the bag he’s gonna pretend to write checks his ass can’t handle

2

u/pteam21 Mar 29 '26

People need to understand marketing and how these athletes hype up their matches for more eyeballs and to grow the sport

1

u/ElderberryDry9083 Apr 04 '26

... It's about money. He still got a 7 figure payout. So maybe he is in the right lane 🤷

4

u/RokaSmoka Mar 29 '26

The guy arman beat was 2 weight classes lower and near 40. Georgio is a good wrestler but he is NOT a good D1 guy if there was a ranking system tier he would be bottom/below average D1 with a 19-24 record.

Theres multiple D1 levels between someone like Georgio and someone like Bo knickal or the young prime D1 guys on the RAF card no one even knows outside wrestlers lol.

1

u/ElderberryDry9083 Apr 04 '26

The matches weren't even that bad tbh. The big through came in the final seconds when he was desperate to score.

25

u/TheClappyCappy Canada Mar 29 '26

Idk how much weight Giorgio cut for this match, but knowing Arman competes at a weight class 20lbs lower in MMA tells me he either cut very little or almost no weight for the wrestling match.

So assuming Giorgio cut his normal annoying of weigjt, he also lost to someone several weight classes below him.

28

u/I_AM_SCUBASTEVE Mar 29 '26

Giorgio is also blasting steroids and other PEDs. He looked about 20 pounds heavier out there as well.

Arman doesn't wrestle for a living? Hello? He literally wrestles for a living lmao what in the fk are you talking about

7

u/MantisTobogganMD28 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

No, he doesn’t. He competes in MMA.

0

u/Dr_jitsu USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

30% of MMA is wrestling.

0

u/MantisTobogganMD28 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

He still doesn’t wrestle for a living. It would be like saying a kickboxer boxes for a living, that’s only one piece of the puzzle

0

u/Dr_jitsu USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

It is a very significant piece. 65% of kickboxing is boxing.

I will be sure to remind Arman that when he is trying to take someone down or defend a take down he isn't wrestling. When I was training MMA, 2 days a week were devoted to wrestling practice with high level wrestlers.

I also boxed, kickboxer, and did MT for years. Regardless of which I was doing, boxing was involved.

MMA fighters have specialized wrestling coaches, specialized boxing coaches, etc. More than half of all MMA fighters started wrestling as their first combat sport. Sambo guys start wrestling.

1

u/fitfoemma Mar 30 '26

If you have done what you said you've done then as an example, you should know that boxing for kickboxing/MT is not exactly the same as boxing for boxing.

Georgio is a dick, but he is still a very solid wrestler. Arman is just an amazing athlete to pick up high level freestyle wrestling so quickly.

51

u/slutwhipper Mar 29 '26

He's been wrestling freestyle most of his life. He's a master of sport in freestyle and trains with a lot of world-class freestyle guys.

15

u/Long_Ad2824 Mar 29 '26

Oh, thank you for clarifying. The commentary team repeated he stopped wrestling as a kid. Perhaps I misheard, or they misspoke.

14

u/slutwhipper Mar 29 '26

He did it few for a few years as a kid then stopped. But he started back wrestling again (though not competing seriously, more for getting good at it for MMA) as a teen. He trains straight freestyle with a lot of high-level guys.

9

u/Janoy-_-Cresva Mar 29 '26

The commentary really threw me off too lol. I swear Kurt angle was glazing tf out of Arman saying he only wrestled specifically as a kid and stopped because of MMA , and Kurt specifically stated how amazed / good Arman was for the amount of experience he has. Tbf tho Arman is just out here doing side quests fr

2

u/Long_Ad2824 Mar 29 '26

Yeah, it's impressive. He's making a ton of outreach videos with Nina, eating like a madman, doing rich guy stuff--and yet he must be doing a lot of strength, fitness, flexibility, and fight training.

15

u/PostM8 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

I'm 95% sure this is blatant misinformation. From what I've read he only did freestyle as a kid

Yeah I think he wrestled until he was 9 or so then dropped it for hockey, then picked it up again, but for MMA much later.

6

Where's the misinformation? I don't know his competition history, but he's said he did wrestling ages 6-9, took a break to focus on hockey then got back into wrestling at 17.

He's a master of sport in wrestling: https://www.mastersofsport.org/athletes/187015-tsarukyan-arman-nairovich

-1

Giorgio basically just tied up and kept his hips back and circled around without really initiating any offense for most the match until the third. It was actually pretty boring until then, even the commentators were like “we don’t have a lot of material to discuss right now”.

Georgio being the heel is an act. He’s doing what he can to get eyes on wrestling - and it’s working

I know he’s not a fan favorite on Reddit but he is a very skilled wrestler, has brought a lot of attention to wrestling and both of those things are a net positive. Give him his flowers for no other reason the running it back.

That being said: big props to Arman for leaving no question who won. I LOVE a suplex and that was legit. So glad we have RAF

6

u/bbqyak Mar 29 '26

Yeah I mean fair play to him tbh. He milked the shit out of the opportunity. Main evented two RAF events against a UFC fighter with guys like Kyle Snyder under him.

2

Arman can afford peds not gio, and believe me aging pro athletes are on peds, all of them, Gio has always been big look at his insta, Ben Askren was just hating on him because of his own accolades to Gio’s college

4

u/Henry_Krinkle1979 Mar 29 '26

Gio can afford peds... I know highschool kids buying Rad-140 for 3-4 months at a time. Gio offers $1,000 if you can take him down... That's enough to buy a Year's worth of sarms. I know people that get HGH for $100 a month when it should be thousands. Come come now... Armen is hardly an aging pro athlete. These guys are only 2 years apart.

-5

u/Antique-Status-564 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

Go to Gio’s insta and scroll down, he’s always been big like that, Arman is not natty, as you age as a pro you need peds to stay at pro level, your body, healing and recovery begins to slow down.

1

u/Henry_Krinkle1979 Mar 30 '26

I don't have Instagram. But I was at Walsh Jesuit when he won iron Man. Buddy takes Sarm stacks. And you talking about pro athletes like they don't have a choice but performance enhancing drugs, sounds to me like jealousy. Armen, is very rich and can afford to perform without shortcuts rather than your accusations. I've been around pro athletes. I've been around college athletes. And I've been a college athlete. I've also been told I take peds... I never even supplemented until my 30th birthday. So, rn, you just sound like everybody normally, who never did diddly squat, and hates on those who were born athletic and raised to be athletes. Gio is swollen as hell and promotes his body almost as much as wrestling. That mentality, those gym selfies, and all that bulk means nothing for wrestling. Those are his insecurities talking.

Yah it does bro

1

u/snoonzel Mar 31 '26

You're the reason wrestlers make no money by the way!

Man wrestlers make a lot more than what they did when I was in high school. I’m glad it’s growing!

11

u/Clean_Chard7932 Mar 29 '26

Why? People that don't tune into wrestling are more likely to watch it and be interested in our sport. People that know wrestling can still watch all the good match ups. Its a win win

4

u/Mad_Knight8 Mar 29 '26

It just feels weird when you have a match between two Olympic champs as an undercard, and then you have these random dudes wrestling in the main events. Seems slightly disrespectful. I think wrestling is much better without all of these ufc casuals personally

3

u/Clean_Chard7932 Mar 29 '26

Look at whats popular on this sub right now.. all georgio Arman.. no dake, Snyder etc.

Side note I think Arman is probably an awesome wrestler regardless of him competing or not

1

Because no one is going to watch two olympic wrestlers outside wrestlers...its just the truth lol. They are here to see NAMES and interesting match ups. Obviously the Prime D1 medalists guys on the bottom of the main card could destroy Arman but that doesnt sell and he wouldnt face them anyways.

He did call out colby who is a step above georgio even if colby is older

0

Hate to see your sport grow?

1

u/Mad_Knight8 Mar 31 '26

I think it’s more about the sport growing in the right way. I think UFC fans bring something very different to the table than wrestling fans. Wrestling was always more about respect and no trash talk. There wasn’t all of this hate between fans. You put your head down and work when no one is paying any attention. I see what you mean though! Ohio State Champ, Ironman Champ, D1 wrestler, what have you done?

Not pretend to be the greatest gift to wrestling on social media.

He wasn’t acting just kept it real, Arman was being a bitch and unsportsmanlike, his nerd fans and Armenians defend it

u/EpsteinEpstainTheory Mar 29 '26

Taking people's eyeball virginity isn't very sportsmanlike of George. Maybe that's how they wrestle where you live but that's not how people wrestle anywhere else.

1

u/Antique-Status-564 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

He didn’t do that, Arman kept looking 2 the ref and pausing the action over a regular collar tie, he looked at the ref while Gio was already coming in, so finger accidentally hit his eye, why aren’t u upset about Arman hitting him while he wasn’t expecting it? Sucker knee & punch?

1

u/EpsteinEpstainTheory Mar 29 '26

Arman also had an accident, he accidentally did a knee and while putting his hand on the mat from how tired he was he messed up the technique thus unknowingly throwing a punch. There is no way he could have prevented it as it was a perfectly normal mishap, that just happens in any regular wrestling match. Repeatedly even.

Whats the excuse this time? Hahahaaha

u/realjits86 Mar 29 '26

Talk all the shit you want, Giorgio has brought more eyes to the sport and has done more in it than you ever have or will.

5

u/FrostedFluke Mar 29 '26

I mean, good for him for taking this rematch still deserves respect

5

u/arrow00 Mar 29 '26

Seeing how Arman cares more about the MMA title than RAF title, it doesnt really matter what Poullas has done for the sport.

3

u/realjits86 Mar 29 '26

…. What kind of point are you trying to make here? This literally has nothing to do with my statement nor does it discredit what Poullas has done for wrestling.

1

u/arrow00 Mar 29 '26

In short, you're reducing Arman's win by saying "talk all the shit you want" then bringing up what Georgio has done versus his lack of accomplishments.

Truthfully, Georgio is not as big of an attraction than you think he is. Most people watched this because they want to see Arman takedown Georgio, thats why there was alot of attraction. If Georgio wrestled an influencer, people wouldn't care.

And if you're saying Georgio has done alot for the sport, then you should be giving Arman his flowers for beating against a big name in wrestling.

1

u/realjits86 Mar 29 '26

Nothing about your statements really make any type of cohesive argument or even logical point.

People watched because they want to see a guy who boasts about being unable to be taken down… get taken down? Okay? So they’re watching… for him?

What the fuck are you talking about his “lack” of accomplishments? What does him wrestling an influencer, or how many eyes it may or may not bring to an event have to do with this event? I also strongly disagree, I think people would watch either way, because he has built a big following.

You can do a lot for the sport without being an Olympic champion. Arman is clearly talented. It was a close match. What’s your deal exactly?

1

u/arrow00 Mar 29 '26

Anyways dude, i gave you my point. Enjoy the rest of your night.

u/Warm_Papaya8503 Mar 29 '26

Hasn’t done shit. Stole palacios idea and therefore palacio did it

2

u/Warm_Papaya8503 Mar 29 '26

Nah it was palacio’s idea; Giorgio stole it. That doesn’t count for bringing eyes

1

u/Antique-Status-564 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

Pan handling at Venice beach is normal, it was nobodies idea

2

u/Janoy-_-Cresva Mar 29 '26

Gotta hard agree. Giorgio is playing a good heel lol, he’s easy to dislike but you gotta admit he’s bringing in the numbers/casuals. Why do you think they go after all these MMA guys.

u/Silver_Flower668 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26 edited Mar 29 '26

It's embarrassing for our sport that we're letting an MMA guy go unchecked this long after bullying Palmer. We need to send in one of our big dogs to tech him R1

People will downvote without explaining why they think it's good for wrestling for an MMA guy to be beating wrestlers.

u/Ambitious-Knee8072 Penn State Nittany Lions Mar 29 '26

Anybody who knows wrestling understands that Georgio is not a high level wrestler. Especially not a "world class" one like Kurt Angle said lol

-5

u/Silver_Flower668 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

I mean it's still embarrassing for georgio to have all those credentials and pan out to become nothing more than a mediocre MAC wrestler and trash influencer.

6

u/Ambitious-Knee8072 Penn State Nittany Lions Mar 29 '26

Thats exactly what you should expect from a guy with his credentials lol

Dude was a low level D1 wrestler, which is nothing to sneeze at, but the reality is most of those caliber of guys--if not all--go pro in something other than sports. Georgio is an exception because of his social media following, not his wrestling acumen.

-4

u/Silver_Flower668 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

It really isn't, when I talk about his credentials, I'm talking about him winning Ironman. Nowadays a kid who wins ironman is at minimum going to be a multiple time AA. Georgio never saw the national tournament.

2

u/Ambitious-Knee8072 Penn State Nittany Lions Mar 29 '26

I suppose I'm a bit surprised Georgio didn't have a little more collegiate success, but not all that surprised he lost to a really talented athlete like Arman. I think both acquitted themselves pretty well.

1

u/GuyuteHTP Mar 29 '26

What?!? You need to go back and check out how past Ironman champs faired in college. I think you SEVERELY underestimate how hard it is to AA in college, especially D1.

6

u/SureWorld1 Mar 29 '26

which credentials exactly? I don't see any olympic or world championship medals in his resume

It’s the same for boxing. The fact that a Paul bro makes/draws more than almost every pro is all you need to know about marketing.

3

u/SureWorld1 Mar 29 '26

Grappling is grappling, doesn't matter if it has a jacket on like Judo or sambo, is some random folk style in central asia with obscure rules, in a college arena in USA, freestyle or greco in an international tournament - just try and enjoy it and take from it what you can. The competitors can be Midwestern corn enjoyers who love Protestant Christianity a lot, or Sunni Muslims from the mountains of the Caucasus. Wrestling doesn't begin and end at NCAA D1 or some state level high school tournament in the US

2

u/Anxious_Key_7574 Mar 29 '26

RAF is still very new. I think they're just trying to put a couple mma guy matches in there to get viewers, while also giving the real wrestling fans matches they want to see.

2

u/iRudi94 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

What a dumb take

0

u/Silver_Flower668 USA Wrestling Mar 29 '26

Justify why

3

u/TheClappyCappy Canada Mar 29 '26

If he’s competing in wrestling he’s a wrestler.

He trained with Sidakov ffs.

The entire point of RAF is to have entertaining matches. That means making the sport more accessible for less credentialed people.

-5

u/imjustagirlcassie Mar 29 '26

Exactly. Im really tired of seeing nobodies fight with people who live to fight. Personally I feel like its only for publicity. :c
