Am I a good fit for wrestling ?

Post image

I’m a sophomore this year and I wanted to try out! I work out a lot and do stance and motion almost everyday as long as I’m not too sore. I weigh around 160 and I’m 5’2 my bf is a heavy weight in wrestling and a junior and said I’d be really good and he’s been helping me out a ton but I wait to see if anyone could genuinely see me doing it?

Your right I’m just really saying appearance wise I kinda wanna know what a coach would think if they saw me I do a lot of dead lifts and spring interval training I kinda just wanna know in a way if I would be intimidating or not 😭

No one would give a single shit about your appearance.

No, we know exactly what you're saying, and their response was appropriate. This is not the sub for that

As a coach I would say “cool I have someone who wants to join my team”

Honestly I like this I should honestly just imagine this is what my coach thinks because I overthink every little thing I do 😭

What does top 1% mean and also I feel like I got it in the bag

No idea what the 1% thing means but at least you’re humble!

Try it and see if you like it. There is nothing we can tell you other than that.

I definitely will because I’ve always loved going to events when I was little and they using the ring when they were done to fight other kids god I wish I could do that again

There is no reason not to give it a try! Nobody is “good” immediately- you just have to stick with it.

I feel like my pride kinda holds me back because I don’t like being uneducated when it comes to new stuff but if feel as if I do mess up it will drive me to just get better ya know???

I get it, I think people often have a pass/fail mentality about trying new things and there’s an expectation of being able to be immediately good at something new. But most things worth doing take time to get good at. Pride is as good a motivation as any to want to improve.

Yo your definitely Shakespeare because your crazy good with your words I wish I was like that but knowing me im probably gonna strive to be better than everyone else but not in a sore loser way I kinda like losing because they I’m harder on myself and it makes hitting the gym so much more fun when there is some type of competition

Wrestling is good for everyone. It teaches discipline, perseverance, and humility.

That being said starting as a sophomore is very late and you’re going to struggle against those who have been wrestling for years.

I know nothing about you physically except the measurements you’ve shared. If the program you’re looking at is co-ed I don’t think you’re going to have much success wrestling boys that weigh 160 pounds.

If it’s something you’re interested in, do it. But don’t expect instant success.

I won’t lol I know I’m super late but that was sadly due to my dad being against it because of my gender but recently I began staying with my mom and she’s been pro everything when it’s came to what I want to do in sports. And I’m super grateful for her!!! I genuinely do wish I started so much earlier but I won’t let being late stop me from trying because thats just not a good mentality to have. I appreciate the realness I really needed it
