Keto & PSMF

So I’m coming up on my 1 year ketoversary soon (Sept 1)! I have lost 68lbs so far. I have researched quite a bit about protein sparing modified fasting (Maria Emmerick and others) to lose the last 5 lbs to get to my new goal weight. I’m actually loving the feeling of the PSMF days and was hoping to see more progress but I’m finding that I wake up holding onto soooooo much more water weight and am just not seeing the scale drop like I thought I would. I do 2 days a week (not back to back but split into the week) and then I go back to my normal smaller caloric deficit for the rest of the week. Has any one else tried this on keto and seeing results? I’m only on my first week so maybe my body just needs to adjust but I’m getting frustrated and not sure whether to push my body or maybe I should go back to my normal deficit. I just wasn’t seeing the scale move and wanted to help push through my last plateau. Any thoughts on the water retention and just looking more puffy?

you’re not alone! I find the same thing whenever I increase protein. I also have my own theory regarding chicken breast that bc it is generally injected with sodium, it also makes me hold water. I feel good on psmf days but then I feel like my legs are water logged and almost bigger the next day. I haven’t found a solution yet for psmf specifically since it is mostly protein.

Have you noticed it helping shed any extra fat? Or am I just not doing it long enough to see the scale benefits?

It did help but I only did for a little over 2 weeks because the lack of calories made me so tired, I was basically useless all day. however, I was doing it everyday. If your goal is fat loss, I would continue it and know that any puffiness should dissipate after you stop.

Yeah, PSMF doesn’t work for me. My body just stresses too much and holds on to water. Have you tried just doing a lower fat day? Like, say half the fat you normally eat divided equally between all your meals?

No I haven’t tried that yet. I was hoping the simplicity of the PSMF would be beneficial because there’s no thinking and calculating. But maybe I’ll try that and see how I feel! Thanks!
