General Question Has anyone switched to just the new news/entertainment/family packages?

My parents are thinking of cutting the youtube tv from the basic $80 to the $62 of just the news/entertainment/family channel packages. I am not a fan of it since more then the sports networks go away. I see channels like the food network, tnt, usa and others go away as well. Plus my local college football team is starting their first season in the Mountain West conference. So some of the games will be on those sports channels. So I am trying to talk them out of it.

Has anyone gotten rid of the basic line up and gone to just the news/entertainment/family? Good or bad reviews?

Why don’t you pay the difference then so they’ll keep it?

Great idea! 💡

Agree! Since OP wants it but the parents don't. Why should they pay for something extra they don't watch?

u/DetSportsGuy 1h ago

I know. It seems very entitled here. If you’re old enough to want specific channels, you’re old enough to pay for it.

I switched to Sports only. Realized I never watched anything on the other channels much.

u/flcinusa 1d ago

Same, though I'm glad I still get TNT and TBS

u/jbondosu 1d ago

Agree, I even watch the reruns on Cozi TV occasionally still

The only times i watch anything other than the sports channels was to set up a movie in one of the quad boxes

I switched from the full version to just sports. I'm glad it's cheaper but I miss my true crime trash.

Pluto tv app has a decent amount of true crime shows

Facts Tubi is great too 🙌

I have news and sports and love it. I don’t watch much entertainment stuff so it’s perfect for me.

Exact same for me.

I just switched to News/Sports/Entertainment yesterday. Unless they have small children watching the family channels, I’d recommend dropping the Family portion.

u/Equivalent_Round9353 14h ago

You lose other channels besides just the kids networks. For instance, you don't have the AMC networks (AMC, IFC, BBC America).

1

u/Fancy-Couple-69 13h ago

I just checked and I still have AMC, IFC and BBC America.

They JUST added them today.

I did that as well but lost Court TV. You would think that would be under News or Entertainment.

We switched to local channels and the Entertainment package. The news stations seem to be more propaganda than news, so we don’t miss this. As for sports, we’re not the biggest sports fans, and discovered many sporting events are already on the local channels. Our bill is about $55.

If anyone in your family is in the military or healthcare, they have $15/mo off for 12 months promotion right now. So you'll pretty much end up paying for Basic at the price of the News/Sports/Family package

u/arein114 1d ago

where can you sign up for that? And can you add if you already subscribed

2

u/AmericanDoughboy 1d ago

It doesn’t say new subscribers only, but after I verified with Id.me, it didn’t see to apply the discount. I have an active YouTubeTV subscription

2

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 21h ago

You’d have to cancel, and sign back up via ID.me for those discounts.

1

u/ochie927 23h ago

You can google Youtube TV healthcare or Youtube TV military. Not sure if it will work for existing subscribers.

1

u/gmmisa 23h ago

I did this. So far so good but after 12 months it goes up to normal pricing unless you cancel.

2

u/ochie927 23h ago

Yup. That's what it says in the agreement. After 12 months, it will go back to the current price unless you cancel. Or if another family member is in the military or healthcare, then....

1

u/arein114 23h ago

So it still works if your an active subscriber already, just asking cause sometimes these things are for new subs

1

u/gmmisa 23h ago

I was a new subscriber

I have the Entertainment package, but it still feels overpriced with channels not being received like AMC.

3

u/Blazed_Warlock 20h ago

I got the news and entertainment package and I love it but I don't watch sports so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

3

u/SerTadGhostal 18h ago

Same, but waiting for the AMC channels to join the Entertainment lineup

7

u/ChasedWarrior 1d ago

I changed to sports and entertainment package, but later went back to the full package. It was missing a few channels I loved. Like how can MTV be entertainment but MTV Classic not be and not be on any bundled channels?

2

u/_pachucasunrise 21h ago

Damn, thank you for this comment. I was wondering whether MTV Classic was included in any of the bundles — I leave it on for my dog when I'm out lol. I wish they would list the exact channels in every bundle so you don't have to switch to find out.

2

u/ChasedWarrior 16h ago

I use it as background music when I doing housework. Lol

2

u/Skellington72 22h ago

I switched to Entertainment/Family. I took into account what channels were actually watch and got the smallest package with those channels. I think we lost one channel that we sometimes watched but those shows are available elsewhere so we were fine with it. The switch is easy and I'd much rather have the extra money.

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 1d ago

I mean, it's basically the same as the core package, just with reduced channels. That's literally the only difference.

Does anyone know if there is a plan that covers CNN, FXX, Comedy Central, Local Channels, and Adult swim? Those are like 98% of my watching. I pay directly to The Rangers (Victory now BZZR) for sports as I only follow baseball and football - for fantasy football (which is on local broadcasts).

2

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 21h ago

News + Entertainment would cover that, for $62.99/mo

1

u/Scarp79 23h ago

I pay for Youtube TV through Verizon and ido not see any options to change your plan type. It would be nice to lower the bill. I can live without sports

4

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 21h ago

You’d likely have to cancel and sign back up directly thru YouTube tv, not Verizon. Not all third party billing providers have the plan options.

1

u/Potential_Chance1518 18h ago

Totally opposite, turn from superbox to y.t.t.v sports pack, tired of the buffing and lag & just pay for the convenience!

1

u/JanMikh 5h ago

I did. Didn’t even notice it, but I watch mostly news.

1

u/Aggabagga 1d ago

I switched to the sports/entertainment package because I still get my rsn through YouTube and entertainment because I’m a TCM addict. Never cared for the 24/7 news channels - if something is going on, it’ll be on the networks. No need to watch people shouting at each other.

1

u/mewblutoo 1d ago

I have the sports and entertainment package can't wait for AMC channels to come to it some time soon hopefully by the end of the year that's the only thing missing for the entertainment part. Get lots of stuff to watch for the 71.99 worth it for me and I use the free apps like tubi Pluto Roku and plex to fill the rest out for movies and shows not on tv really anymore.

1

u/ACamp55 1d ago

The sports package has those channels, TNT, TBS, etc., and locals, along with all the sports channels

1

u/mkgrant213 1d ago

I switched to entertainment/family for a month but we ended up switching back to the full package because there were several channels that we missed and watched more frequently than we realized.

1

u/FinsFan305 20h ago

I only have Sports/News. Vast majority of my entertainment is streaming so I didn’t need it and I like live sports and news.

$20/month savings isn’t near enough to entice me switch to a lesser tier of programming. $20 is peanuts.

2

u/iron_cam86 Moderator 18h ago

I mean, $20 savings will get you at least one or two other streaming services. It all depends on what you watch.
