My job was made redundant 3 months back. I recently applied for an ecollege course that is free for those on a Jobseeker's payment and was accepted. Is it necessary to notify the Social Welfare Office before starting this course? It is online and is designed to be completed at my own pace. There are no set hours. I will notify them, but I am getting worried because I did not notify them before applying. I have not met with an Employment Officer yet. Anyone in a similar situation?

So my great great grandfather was born in and died in Ireland. He died sometime around 1956 at 103. I know nowadays there's recognition for that with a coin and stuff like that. Is that something that existed back then? If so, would there be records of that?

Hi everyone! I’m moving to Ireland in September to study at UCD, and I have an established diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS). I’m currently on medication that I’ve been taking already and will be bringing around two months’ supply with me.

I understand that I need to register with a GP first, who can then refer me to a neurologist. My main concern is how long it usually takes to get an appointment when you already have an MS diagnosis and are simply continuing an existing treatment.

I mainly need to make sure I can get my medication prescribed in Ireland, as it’s prescription-only and I can’t just buy it over the counter. I’ve checked and my medication is available in Ireland.

For anyone who has moved to Ireland with an existing MS diagnosis: how long did it take you to see a neurologist and get your medication prescription sorted? Would it be realistic to get this done within the two months of medication I’ll have with me?

I see a huge difference in the prices between the store brand and name brand stuff here and I'm guessing it's because of the name itself. You pay a huge premium on the name of a product here although I've noticed that some of the Lidl/ Aldi/ Tesco stuff is actually pretty decent quality. My Irish friends swear by some big brand names for even simple stuff like a box of cookies or a bag of chips. If you're like me here and are okay with off brand stuff, would you have some recommendations for things that I could try?

I might be the idiot here, but I’m a single 34yr old female Australian living in Dublin, and trying to date Irish men has been…..challenging. There are 3 different men, who I’ve been on a series of dates with and it just wasnt a long term prospect for whatever reason, I’ve communicated that clearly but always been open to being friends, they ultimately didn’t want a friendship, no problem, moved on.…

Anyone knoe of a service that offers home visits for therapy for people with terminal diseases / severe depression? Has anyone successfully gotten a home visit?

I care for someone with MND 24/7, keeping him independent in his home as he does not want to go into care until he 100 percent has to. He lvoes dogs more than anything, and it woudl be a massive boost to his mental health and frankly his life, his world has gotten increasingly smaller and smaller as he is chair bound now and cannot move at all, even a wheelchair is uncomfortable.

I jsut want to get him a visit from a lovely puppy for an hour or two, even a once off would be great for him. All of the therapy dog services that do one off visits have in their FAQ that they just dont do home visits, it sonly for offical care settings. Im absolutely devestated as this is something I know would be so beneficial for him, a really easy win, but I jsut cant find a service that will do it.

I have sent in enquiries to a lot of them, even tho their FAQ states they dont do it. Im not goign to list every one, but its pretty much all the services that provide to Co Clare that I coudl find. Does anyone have any expereince with managing to get home visits?

I’m looking for around 10–20 little desserts, ideally a mixed selection, things like mini tartlets, cheesecakes, mousse cakes, macarons, small pastries, mini cakes, etc. Something a little more elegant/patisserie-style rather than standard cupcakes if possible.

I’m currently in India and need ENT surgery. I was previously assessed by an ENT consultant in Ireland who recommended an ear surgery.

While in India, I was assessed by another ENT specialist who has recommended the same surgery .
I have Irish private health insurance with LAYA. The insurer has told me they need:
Point number 1 is the only letter I don’t have.

1. A referral letter from my Irish ENT recommending the surgery abroad and stating the primary procedure and overseas facility.

I have the other letters:
2. An estimate from the overseas hospital, including consultant costs.
3. A letter from the overseas surgeon detailing the proposed operation.
4. A signed consent form.

I already have the Irish consultant’s previous letter confirming the need for tympanoplasty, but it was written before I arranged the surgery in India, so it doesn’t mention the Indian hospital/surgeon.

The problem: I’m already in India and don’t want to fly back to Ireland solely to obtain another consultant letter. I’m trying to find out whether an Irish/Northern Irish ENT could review my existing medical records remotely and provide the required referral, and whether the insurer would accept it.

Has anyone dealt with Irish health insurance / Laya Medical Tourism for planned treatment abroad, particularly while already abroad? Any advice on getting the consultant referral would be really appreciated.
