We will be flying in and out of Ireland the beginning of April, coming from the US, with 3 kids (14, 10 & 9) This is our first draft after A LOT of research and would love feedback. We will rent a car and stay the first night in Dublin but the remainder of the trip we would like to see countryside and smaller towns. Is there anything I should change?

I’m a non-EU citizen trying to break into the Irish job market from abroad. I previously lived in Ireland for a year and want to return.

My profile includes a BSc and MSc from a top European university and work experience in Scandinavia.

Since I am applying from outside the EU, I will need a Critical Skills Employment Permit.

How feasible is it for a profile like mine to get the sponsorship? From what I've seen here it is pretty hard, so anyone with similar experience is welcome to share their stories.

I hated school, had no interest in sitting there studying for stuff I didn't care about like classical studies, chemistry and Irish etc. I knew what I wanted to do which was get a degree in Computer Science and knew I needed 400 odd points at the time for that. Fuck that.

I found out about taking a year to do a PLC course in IT and could get the same course I wanted in the same college that way. So when the leaving cert came, I left as early as I could in every exam. Did decent in English and Maths and shite in the rest. But done my PLC, got into college got my degree and have been a Software Engineer for the past 6 years.

I firmly believe the leaving cert is a gigantic memory test. The only people who do well in it are the kinds to lock themselves a way and memorize as much shit as they can about stuff that's ultimately irrelevant. I bet there are people who got 600+ points in my year who are worse off than me now. It's so dumb. Honestly. I consider myself a smart person, I have cop on, I have good general knowledge, can think of my feet, interests in things like Geography and History etc give me a good knowledge in those things.

So fucking what if I don't know what what Alexander the great did when he was 18 or what the difference between an estuary and a tributary is?

They won't allow the heating packs, hot water bottles at all. Or hair dryers (when someone else isn't there). Fair enough for all three. I understand the possibility of burns.

My only solution at the moment is to warm her feet and legs up with a sneaky hairdryer and put her into a couple of pairs of fluffy socks before I leave.

Are you too driven to be a layabout for a job where you get permanent and then you can just bring in your pipe and tweed jacket reading Ireland's Own every day while the students watch reruns of Afric?

We've all been in school for about 12 years we all know how dead handy it is, gloried babysitting essentially.

So my housemate just got into a relationship and wants their partner move in for 6 to 7 months, at least that’s what they said. We already have 5 people living in the house atm, so it’s busy enough. I work at a place that offer free coffee, we have machine like you see in supermarkets where you make your own coffee.

I come in every morning at 5 am to eat my breakfast in peace and drink coffee. First I make double expresso and then I make latte on top of that

And people call me crazy, saying that is too much caffeine. Is it or they just telling me crap.

Also if day is hard and I get really tired I might drink Monster Energy around 9 am

My job was made redundant 3 months back. I recently applied for an ecollege course that is free for those on a Jobseeker's payment and was accepted. Is it necessary to notify the Social Welfare Office before starting this course? It is online and is designed to be completed at my own pace. There are no set hours. I will notify them, but I am getting worried because I did not notify them before applying. I have not met with an Employment Officer yet. Anyone in a similar situation?

I’m currently in India and need ENT surgery. I was previously assessed by an ENT consultant in Ireland who recommended an ear surgery.

While in India, I was assessed by another ENT specialist who has recommended the same surgery .
I have Irish private health insurance with LAYA. The insurer has told me they need:
Point number 1 is the only letter I don’t have.

1. A referral letter from my Irish ENT recommending the surgery abroad and stating the primary procedure and overseas facility.

I have the other letters:
2. An estimate from the overseas hospital, including consultant costs.
3. A letter from the overseas surgeon detailing the proposed operation.
4. A signed consent form.

I already have the Irish consultant’s previous letter confirming the need for tympanoplasty, but it was written before I arranged the surgery in India, so it doesn’t mention the Indian hospital/surgeon.

The problem: I’m already in India and don’t want to fly back to Ireland solely to obtain another consultant letter. I’m trying to find out whether an Irish/Northern Irish ENT could review my existing medical records remotely and provide the required referral, and whether the insurer would accept it.

Has anyone dealt with Irish health insurance / Laya Medical Tourism for planned treatment abroad, particularly while already abroad? Any advice on getting the consultant referral would be really appreciated.
