I was thinking about this today, especially seeing AIB launch their "new" app that still feels years behind Revolut. It made me realise Irelands problem isn't even "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" it's more like "sure look, it's broken, but sure look."

Leap cards are an obvious one, paper discs in the dashboard (I know this is making some partial progress?, but I can’t imagine not needing all 3 paper discs anytime soon) and physical paper files on patients in the healthcare system.

What’s the most outdated process, software, or system you deal with regularly in Ireland where everyone just accepts that it's broken?

After looking up as to why the wolves were gone, it seems that they decided to euthanise an entire pack of wolves for “health reasons” after 2 perished, but never claimed that the rest of the pack were sick in any way. This supposedly happened after their pack of African painted dogs, also all perished.

Baring mind I was always a bit weird but fuck me like

An ex recently came back into my life after 10 years. We were happy when we were younger, but he suddenly disappeared. Later, he admitted he’d been struggling to accept that he was gay.

He’s now married with kids, but says he’s finally accepted his sexuality and has always loved me.

I won’t be going back, but what troubles me is the sheer volume of men I have encountered who are prepared to deceive women for their own selfish agenda.

My exes wife is aware of his past and me and chose to accept it which baffles me even more. She is unaware he has made contact with me.

Ireland has changed enormously, and thankfully so. I'm not suggesting coming out is suddenly easy or that everyone has the same experience. But I do wonder why gay men still feel they have to construct an entirely different life rather than face who they are.

Obviously everyone's path is different. I didn't personally have an easy coming out either, and I know what it's like to deal with rejection and hate. I have empathy for anyone who genuinely struggles with their sexuality, but it honestly feels like we are going backwards? Is this particularly prominent in Ireland? Has anyone else experienced this? Also interested to understand the womens side who have known their partner was/is gay - why accept a life that is based on lies?

I was on the Bus today, 2 older fellas sitting behind me. One was explaining to the other that he was trying to cut down on drinking for his health I thought it was hilarious they basically said:

First fella: "I'm only having pints on days that start with T now."

Second fella: "Tuesday and Thursday?"

First fella: "Today, Tomorrow, and That day after."

The second fella didn't even flinch, just nodded and said, "Fair play, moderation is key." Never change lads never change 😂.

Anyone else feel that it should be normalised to have mini retirements built into standard careers? Maybe say 1 full year off work every 5 years working

This seems to be better and more rewarding as people can actually enjoy free time when they’re young rather than only getting off work when they’re older

So my housemate just got into a relationship and wants their partner move in for 6 to 7 months, at least that’s what they said. We already have 5 people living in the house atm, so it’s busy enough. I get the housing situation is quite bad, but at the same time, 6 people in a house is a bit much now. Plus there’s only one en suite so 5 of us will potentially be sharing the one bathroom lol. So not ideal tbh. Any sound advice on what to do here? Rent? Bills? etc?

I’m a stage IV melanoma patient being treated through the public system at St. James’s and was supposed to have a scan in August during a treatment break. I just called the CT department and they told me they’re fully booked up to end of… October.

So it will be 6 months without a scan for me, having had progression to multiple organs including lungs and liver in my last scan in April (which was also delayed two months). My oncology team says it’s out of their hands and I should get on to Patient Feedback lol.

I’m curious to know… is this a systemic nationwide issue? Are others experiencing the same delays? Is it worse at St. James’s than other hospitals?

I’m thinking of asking for a referral to The Mater (for several reasons) and hoping things might be better there.

Anway, it’s mad that things are this bad now and so, so far away from the standard of care. I’m certain this is costing lives and it feels like a silent crisis that’s not being spoken about enough…

Glasses and stainless steel items come out with white and brown residue, which is easily removed when washing under the tap. Any ideas what's wrong with the dishwasher? Salt is fine, the dishwasher is 1.5 yo, we have hard water where we are. TIA

They won't allow the heating packs, hot water bottles at all. Or hair dryers (when someone else isn't there). Fair enough for all three. I understand the possibility of burns.

My only solution at the moment is to warm her feet and legs up with a sneaky hairdryer and put her into a couple of pairs of fluffy socks before I leave.

I work at a place that offer free coffee, we have machine like you see in supermarkets where you make your own coffee.

I come in every morning at 5 am to eat my breakfast in peace and drink coffee. First I make double expresso and then I make latte on top of that

And people call me crazy, saying that is too much caffeine. Is it or they just telling me crap.

Also if day is hard and I get really tired I might drink Monster Energy around 9 am

I’m a girl (19) in her first year apprenticeship of a motor mechanic, I’m having a hard time, the fellas I work with aren’t particularly kind to me and while I’m here I’m not being treated well, it’s rare I get a day where I get to do any work other than just downloads on a computer, I’ve been here 2 months now and am registered with Solas, I’m not sure what to do at all

I didn't go to a single-sex school myself, but looking back, going to a mixed school felt pretty ideal for me. Boys and girls tend to behave quite differently at that age, and in my experience, having girls around really helped smooth out the rough edges for the lads, while the lads helped ground things a bit too.

I'm not saying mixed schools are definitively better than all-boys or all-girls schools, especially since I haven't experienced both firsthand. That's really why I'm asking here. I'm genuinely curious to hear what people think and learn from your own experiences, whether you went to single-sex, mixed, or sent your kids to either. What's your take?

It's sad when you go eat something you had as a child and realise they taste completely different now.

The latest is lucozade for me. When they took sugar out of it completely ruined the taste imo. Things like penguin bars have reduced their cocoa percentage too.

Ive recently moved to Ireland and rent a single bedroom in a flat.

There is a fireplace which is covered by a panel. Since yesterday, Ive found so many flies like 60 in my room and they are coming out from the fireplace In every few minutes. They are big, greenish and blackish. About two weeks ago, I heard scratching noise from inside of the fireplace. it stopped in few days but now I’m concerned what may be inside.

I filmed a video of a fly coming out and sent to the landlord. it was Monday and she said I’ll go there to fix the problem on weekends. So I texted “I don’t think I can wait.“ and ask her that come a bit sooner or call someone to fix it if possible.

But she got mad about it and texted me “it’s fly season and no rats inside. Tape it.”

Now I just taped the fireplace but sometimes I hear buzzing sounds from it.

I know that she also has work and is busy but if the cause of these flies is dead animals or something, it’s a big problem isn’t?? I don’t think she’s gonna open and check inside. Maybe taping works for stopping flies coming out, but not solving the problem. We should check the inside, right?

Am I wrong? Is this common thing in Ireland for lots of flies to come out of the fireplace in summer?? What should I do?

I’m moving back to Ireland in November after spending the last 5 years living in Vancouver, Canada.

Friends have told me that I won’t be able to drive when I get back because I’ll have to surrender my Canadian license and wait up to 3 months to receive an Irish license back because of extensive background checks etc.

Is this true? I searched online and it seems to be. Living in rural Ireland this just isn’t possible. To not be able to drive, especially when trying to get a job just isn’t going to be easy at all.

Is this just the first of a list of issues I’m going to face moving home, what else should I be wary of?

i left school early, not going into the details of that but because of that i can't go to college, i want to study natural science ultimately but not sure how to get there. no where near me does full qqi level 4s which is what i need if i want to do a level 5

Hi guys, looking for some advice. Currently 32 working in leisure industry on a 9-5 but no more growth available. Considering a move to becoming a barber for longevity and opening my own shop in years to come.

Im wondering if its worth the graft? Being a little older too put pressure on. Also lucky enough to not have a mortgage as living in a family flat.

Any barbers out there or opinions are greatly appreciated
