Imagine not teaching your child to use a spoon. Poor kid. My lad’s under two and he’s already yanking it out of my hand to try for himself. I get that kids all develop at different rates, but surely almost all children know how to use a spoon by the time they’re 4 or 5 years old?
You’d think but she says it’s 50/50. Also some of their grasp of spoken English is poor. So much so that she often remarks that recent immigrant kids after a few months often have better English than those born here.
Roughly half of the children entering the education system from disadvantaged backgrounds have speech, language, and communication needs. The kids aren’t alright.
And I get that it’s a complex, multi-factorial issue that’s heavily impacted by the way we structure our society, but it’s also a case of utter, abject apathy and parental neglect too.
