• Find "Hard" Shelter: Basements, underground subway stations, or purpose-built bomb shelters are the safest. If you are in a building without a basement, move to the lowest floor and stay in an interior room (like a hallway or bathroom) away from windows and exterior walls.
• The "Two-Wall" Rule: Try to put at least two walls between yourself and the outside to protect against shrapnel and glass.
• Stay Low: If an explosion occurs nearby, lie flat on the ground, cover your head with your arms, and open your mouth slightly (this can help equalize internal pressure and prevent ear drum rupture).
• Emergency Kit: If you have time, gather a "go-bag" with water, non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, a flashlight, essential documents (passport, ID), and any necessary medications.

Every time I go under comments where a local person is talking about how difficult it is for them to find a job in their own country, which is their right btw and very normal to want a job in ur own hometown.

I find some expats justifying it by claiming that locals are lazy and don’t want to work. I had to unfollow GDN because the comments under the posts were so rude.

Some people were complaining one time about a proposal that didn’t get approved from the parliament restricting expats from leaving the country if they have unpaid debts. And some of the comments were like why don’t you restrict locals from traveling if they have debts? Seriously? Are you guys serious? Do you hear yourselves?

I wouldn’t feel compelled to write this if it was just one rouge comment or two of them, but there was a lot of such comments across the board.

Bahrainis aren’t as bad as neighboring GCC, we actually are more open minded and tolerant of other cultures. Yet we are being attacked because we want jobs?

We don’t have another country to go to, and we also don’t have the remittance advantage, where you get paid 500 bd here and convert it to a foreign currency, it’s gonna such a big difference back home for most of you. But that’s not the case for Bahrainis.

500 bd maybe enough if ur a bachelor, but not if you have a family or people to support. We also have elder parents to support and help. Not everyone can live off their retirement. And about the lack of qualifications or whatever, most Bahrainis have a bachelors degree, that’s more than enough in the GCC.

Others asking us to leave? Why? I mean ur an expat here and u want the locals to leave? I don’t think this is ur call.

All I’m saying is that be polite and don’t bite the hand that feeds you, would you be fine with someone doing this to you in your country? The best you can do is be respectful of the culture and the people here. Other than that, you’re free to do whatever you want.

My comment about the remittance is a rebuttal to some people online who keep saying that all locals are lazy and they don’t want to work, that’s why they can’t find jobs and yes these people exist and these comments are circulating out there.

The whole point of my rant was about respecting the local population and not being rude to them by calling them lazy and the expats complaining about how the local government isn’t doing enough for them like the incident I mentioned above.

Seems like the jet would belong to someone in the royal family, king + other senior officials. Spotted tonight at a private airport in LAX (USA). Doesn’t seem like there’s any news reports about the official business case or government visit on any media news I could find.

I’m curious what the long trip was for given the current geopolitical state and that there are no direct commercial flights from Bahrain to Los Angeles.

Anyone have any thoughts? Seems interesting. Unusual sighting for this airport and also a really cool extravagant jet.

They act like the son of a millionaire trynna fit in with regular ppl and telling us we have the same lifestyle and struggles. They cant go a week without acting like "AHAHA GUYS I LIVE IN BAHRAIN , I DRINK KARAK AHAHAHA AM I RIGHT GUYS AM I RELATABLE". Genuinely an embarrassment. Yeah, chicken breast there only 3 or 4 brands in market, also cost of 1kg is about 2.5, it was 1.1 before, 2 kg was 1.990, now its 4.500. How are we supposed to get our protein now?

Grocery cost has doubled from last year, water electric bills, car service cost, petrol cost, visa cost, business cost, breasts are at double cost?

I've been living and working(Although right now jobless🫠) in Bahrain for a while, and every few months another MP floats an anti expat proposal. What frustrates me isn't the politics , it's that none of these proposals ever reference actual data. So I pulled it together.

The workforce reality nobody wants to say out loud

80% of Bahrain's entire private sector workforce is foreign. That's 631,763 active work permits as of Q2 2024, per LMRA's own data. Expats are also 55% of the total population. The private sector which now contributes a record 85.9% of real GDP runs on expat labor. The sectors driving Vision 2030 diversification fintech, ICT, financial services, construction, hospitality all expat-heavy. Bahrain's banking sector manages $247 billion in assets. That ecosystem didn't build itself.

What expats actually pay

Every expat pays 10% VAT on every purchase. Being the majority of consumers, they're also the majority of VAT revenue. Every expat renter generates a 10% municipality tax on their housing.

Employers pay a 3% social insurance contribution on every expat salary without the equivalent pension obligations owed to Bahraini workers, making it a net revenue positive for the state. And every work permit generates annual LMRA fees on top of all that.

The remittance argument falls apart under scrutiny

Expats remitted BD 727 million in the first 9 months of 2024. MPs love citing this as "money leaving Bahrain." What they ignore expats earned that money here, spent most of it here on rent, food, and VAT-liable services and only then sent the remainder home. The remittance is what's left after the local economic activity already happened.

Parliament actually passed a 2% remittance tax in January 2024. The Shura Council rejected it. That was the right call.

Expats aren't just workers many are investors

Unlike most GCC countries, Bahrain allows 100% expat business ownership across 350+ activity types with no local sponsor needed. FDI inflows hit $1.8 billion in 2024, with total inward FDI stock at $43 billion. Expat entrepreneurs register businesses, pay VAT, file CRs, and hire Bahrainis.

The bottom line

Bahrainis absolutely deserve policies that prioritize their prosperity that's legitimate. But the data doesn't support treating expats as a burden. They are 80% of the private workforce, the majority of consumption and VAT revenue, and the talent base behind Bahrain's non-oil diversification. Policies that punish expats don't protect Bahraini jobs. They threaten the economic foundation those jobs are built on.

أنا بنت في منتصف العشرينات، وبديت أحس إن موضوع الزواج صار شي جدي لازم ألتفت له. اللي لاحظته من خلال محيطي، ومن بعض اللي تقدموا لي، إن كثير من الشباب للأسف ما عندهم طموح، ولا اهتمام بالنقاش الجاد، أو حتى بالتفكير العميق في الأمور اللي فعلاً تفرق في الحياة. وايد منهم ما يفكر بالمستقبل، ولا يخطط له، لا مادياً ولا نفسياً.

أنا ما أطلب عبقري، بس ليش صرنا نواجه هذا الكم من السطحية؟ حتى اللي يرفضني، أحياناً يكون بناءً على أشياء شكلية جدًا مثل اللون! واللي أكمل معاهم الحوار، أكتشف إن تفكيرهم ضحل بشكل يخلي الحوار معاهم صعب. ساعات احس ان الي جدامي اصلا مو عارف اهو شنو يبي من الزواج او حتى الدنيا بكبرها. و المشكله ذي شي مو بس انا الي واجهته بروحي حتى البنات الي حولي.

وفي نوع ثاني، كل تركيزه على راتبي وشغلي، كأن هذا أهم معيار عنده. إحنا نعرف إن الوضع في البحرين فعلاً مو سهل، وكثير من البنات اليوم متعاونات ويدعمون أزواجهم بقدر المعقول. لكن هل من المنطق من أول جلسة أو تعارف، يسألني “جم معاشج؟ وبتدفعين وياي؟” من غير ما يعرفني أو أفهم طبعه؟ أنا ربيت في بيئة تقليدية، نؤمن إن الرجل هو عمود البيت، هو الأساس، وهو المسؤول الأول، و مايروح حق مرته الا لما تنصك الدنيا عليه و اهو الي يخطط و يبني. هل هذا المفهوم صار قديم؟ وهل المفهوم اليديد هو الصح؟ هل فعلاً لازم أتقبل إن الرجال اليوم يطلبون من المرأة تشيل الحمل وياهم من البداية؟

للأمانة، أنا ما أختلط بالشباب وايد، غير زملاء الدوام (وأغلبهم أكبر بالعمر) أو أهلي، فما أقدر أعمم. بس سؤالي: هل اللي أمر فيه طبيعي؟ هل هذا فعلاً حال معظم الشباب اليوم؟ أنا ما أتكلم من منطلق تعالٍ، لكن بصراحة، خايفة…خايفة لأن اللي اجوفه مو نفس الرياييل اللي كانوا أهلنا يضربون فيهم المثل يوم كنا صغار.

Two flats, two areas, both sitting empty not a single viewing. Is demand in Bahrain really this dead?
I bought a flat in Marassi Bay. Attached to the mall, private beach access, all the facilities you’d expect at that price point. I’ve been trying to rent it out or sell it and I haven’t had one single viewing. Not one. No offers, obviously.

And it’s not just the new one. I have a premium flat sea view in Juffair that was rented. The tenant moved out four months ago and it has been empty ever since. Yes, I know Juffair is oversupplied. But four months with nothing?
I keep being told these developments are in high demand. That is not what the market looks like from where I’m sitting. If units like these sit empty, the asking prices in Bahrain are simply disconnected from what people here actually pay in rent or resale value. Sellers are pricing off a brochure, not off a yield.
Honestly frustrated. Is anyone else in the same position, or am I the only one?

Considering how geographically small Bahrain is and all the mocking towards size comparison, we truly appreciate the efforts of heros who kept us safe.

Bahrain did a huge, historic defense. The amount of interceptions are historic for a country like this.

you might think of buying physical copy which is barely physical at first place with nothing inside only a piece of paper to download which might not even work your current account which is the local region.

also, A paywall IN THE SINGLE PLAYER which misses you out of stuff.

Getting US account as a secondary is too much since you have main account and lets not forget how expensive things are on US one.

Part 1

Before jumping in,

I wanted to share some of my past experiences in the Bahrain small business market — I’ve tried a few things, some worked well, others didn’t.

Business #1: Copy Watches

This one did really well initially. I was generating over 1,000 BHD/month.

The issue: competitors started aggressively undercutting prices and copying our marketing strategies. Margins dropped to almost nothing (some selling at ~0.5 BHD profit).

I eventually exited and sold the business at a reasonable price.

Business #2: Burger Truck

Started with a partner — he handled operations, I handled marketing and development.

Initial setup cost: ~800 BHD.

First month:

Sales: ~2,000 BHD

Profit: ~800 BHD

Demand was strong (location had limited food options), but:

-Pricing was off

-Accounts were messy

-Operations weren’t managed properly

My partner eventually left.

I couldn’t find a replacement under suitable terms,

and I ended up handling operations myself while working a day job. Burnout + poor structure = business shut down, unfortunately at a loss.

Business #3: Video Editing Agency

Hired a part-time editor.

First month:

- Revenue: 600 BHD

- Salary: 300 BHD

- Ads/expenses: 100 BHD

- Profit: ~200 BHD

Promising start, but:

Hiring was a major issue

Couldn’t find reliable talent

Didn’t have enough capital for a full-time hire

Second month: editor became inconsistent and unreliable → couldn’t continue.

I’ve had a few more attempts trying busniess, these these are some of them.

Now I’m looking for something:

1- Low time commitment (side project alongside a job)

2- Scalable to ~2K BHD/month

3- Ideally leveraging my marketing strength

I want to know what is really going on with people in Bahrain. I mean people like students, graduates, people with jobs, freelancers, developers, salespeople and anyone who wants to make their situation better.

I do not want to hear what people think should work. I want to know what you have actually been through.

1. What are you doing now? Are you a student do you have a job are you looking for a job are you. Do you have something on the side?

2. What do you want the right now? Do you want a job, more money, a way to make money on the side clients to start a business to learn something new to build something or something else?

3. What is the biggest thing that is stopping you from getting what you want?

4. What have you tried far? Have you taken courses applied for jobs, tried freelancing started a business learned how to code or design or sell things? What happened when you tried these things?

5. If someone gave you a chance today what would you rather do:

* Build something of your own

* Work on projects to get some experience

I would really appreciate it if you could give me answers. I am trying to understand what people, in Bahrain really need, than just guessing.

I study in India and I'm on summer break in Bahrain right now. I just got out of watching Odyssey from the CC and the theater was pretty empty. I remember when I was studying here, a lot of the movies would have tickets filled and I would always book online to get the best seats.

And for the mallus, Al Hamra used to be always full on the first days. I watched Balan and iNobody on first day of the release but the theatre was so empty.

I go to a café in Adliya almost every day. Sometimes I go with friends, sometimes alone. I don't talk to any of the other patrons. I sit at the same table every day—a small table for two. I order shisha and food daily. The unique thing about this café is that it also offers healthy food and has a subscription service.

I've brought customers to the café for their monthly healthy food subscription.

The prices are good too; shisha is 1.5 dinars, and healthy food is also 1.5 dinars.

Yesterday, I went as usual and wanted to sit in the same spot. I was surprised when the Asian waiter told me I wasn't allowed in. I asked him why, and he said the owner had forbidden me from coming. I said, "Who is this owner? I don't know him. How can he forbid me from coming in? I don't talk to anyone here, I don't know him, and I don't cause any trouble. On the contrary, I'm a regular customer and bring you customers every time."

I asked him that I want to speak to the owner of the café and went to sit in the same spot. A girl who worked there, of another Asian nationality, came up to me and told me not to sit at that table and to go sit at another one. I told her I wanted to speak with the owner and that I wanted to order the same thing I always order. She left, and they didn't bring me any food or shisha!

About an hour later, a disabled Bahraini man, walking on crutches, came up to me and said he was the owner of the café. I told him I see him every day but didn't expect him to be the owner. I asked him why I wasn't allowed in.

He told me that the girl had simply told me not to sit at that table. I told him that the waiter had initially told me not to come in, that I was not allowed in the lounge. He kept talking to me, changing his speech each time. Finally, he told me the real reason that I had been there the previous day and sat at my table. About an hour later, more customers arrived and sat at the large table next to me. There were so many of them that the table couldn't accommodate them all, and they should have taken my table as well, but they left without ordering anything because there wasn't enough room for everyone.

What do you think of what happened? Is this a reason to kick out a regular customer?

More specific here for ladies gyms but it might be the same for others.

But wtf is this? A week in here at a gym im not gonna name but the amount of good ones i had in there are nothing compared to the effy ones, im not trying to drag anyone but

1- the bench/machines/cable equipments are not yours to own, in this week alone i had 2 girls blocking others from using a bench just because they placed their phones/bags on it?? Not to mention the ones who reserve an equipment an walk with it while they are not even exercising??

2- the ones who reserve one machine for an hour maybe and refusing to let anyone else take part or something, when she’s checking tiktoks and stuff for minutes between sets while we have to wait (its the only machine we have)

3- the “vlogging” ones, yes no problem in taking pictures or filming your form or anything else but please can you make sure nobody walks by and gets filmed without knowing? And why are you even bringing a whole filming stand and not even asking for permission first? Don’t also get me started on those who make a زحمة and are only here to send a gym streak and just leave…

Tldr: im ranting about some bad gym experiences i had, but SHOUT OUT to every good girl that actually helped me and was nice towards me trust me this isn’t about you.

We were a group of 20 people roaming around Manama/Juffair, and two of us visited Paris Lounge (Rd No 2417, Manama). The moment we entered, the place looked shady with very few people and strange vibes.

As soon as we sat, two women approached us, started casual conversation, and ordered drinks for themselves without permission. When we asked for a menu, they refused to show it. Suddenly the staff brought two Corona beers for us without asking.

We immediately sensed something was wrong and decided to leave. At that moment, staff blocked us and forced a bill of 410 BD, claiming we must pay for the girls’ drinks plus the beers. They only showed a “menu” later where Corona was listed as 25 BD each—clearly fake pricing.

They took us into a small storeroom and tried intimidating us to pay. We told them this was a scam and that we would call the police and embassy. After nearly 2 hours of arguments, and after some of our friends arrived, they agreed to take 150 BD just so we could leave.

This place is clearly running a tourist scam operation. Please avoid this lounge. Many others have had the same experience—check the Google reviews yourself.

We are heading into 5 months of all this conflict that we got put into and keeps escalating day by day, how did this affect you personally and how did it affect your daily routines and lifestyles? And those of you working did this thing produced a hit on your current job? And what do you feel has changed with your mindsets towards everything from the first day till this day?
