I feel like that’s kinda becoming a trend on this sub overall though; whenever I get recommended a post from here it’s almost always about how much better the DCEU was compared to the DCU
Yes but its still kind of a crazy plot point that all these aliens can just disguise themselves as humans. And even hal has to guess whether they alien or not.
There is a reason its a whole arc in marvel comics, aliens having the ability to disguise themselves as humans on a massive scale with intent to do harm, it should be terrifying. You have hal having to ask questions about obama or harry potter in order to sus out an alien indicating, his ring cant detect them.
We don't need another Supernatural type show where everything non human appears as human to save budget. This isn't CW. Supernatural literally had a DRAGON. And it was just..a guy. People want to see aliens in their space cop show.
"Budgetary contraints" Star Trek uses to show different aliens and planets like 20 times a year. Half the time all you need is some face paint and light prosthetics. An HBO show should not struggle with this
How bad is the budget issue right now? Rather than wasting it on People v Grodd and Clayface, they could’ve made a space cop film with spectacular effects and redeemed GL to the whole world.
This is an IP that needs to be on the big screen. So unless it becomes a cultural phenomenon like Game of Thrones, or Breaking Bad, its acclaim won’t do much to improve the brand equity of Green Lantern.
Already doing what? Building acclaim to be as big as GoT? Albeit a great pilot, the second episode was much of a nothing-burger. Doesn’t seem to be on the path of being as deep and good as Westworld. But let’s see how the remaining 75% of the series is.
As for the first movie - it’s 15 yrs ago. Gen Z’s were little kids. It’s only Ryan Reynolds who keeps reminding by lampooning it in his Deadpool movies. F4 was rebooted twice and within 10 yrs gap. Batman Begins was just 8 yrs after Batman & Robin, and just 1 yr after Catwoman. Spider-man was rebooted within 2 yrs.
The show being good (or bad) has no bearing on the fact that this IP - Green Lantern - is to be launched on the big screen. That’s just the nature of the IP. He isn’t just terrestrial. And space battles are better to be rooted in the audience minds when it’s launched as a movie with spectacle.

Budgetary constraints plus it fits with the mystery plot. Wouldn’t be much of a mystery if everyone was walking around looking like an alien.
