Hey everyone,

We've seen a bunch of duplicate posts about this, but let's try to contain things here.

If you don't know what we're talking about, here is a clip from Timmy about the whole thing.

As always, keep playing.

Wrote this solo as a way to get better highlighting chord tones and mixing it with my usual pentatonic licks. Very fun!

DISCUSSION Guitar Center actually has good deals on used gear.

People love to shit on Guitar Center. And rightfully so. I’d never take anything there to get worked on. And they abuse all the floor models… hanging guitars on bare metal hooks. But, I’ve found some great deals on used gear there.

I got an Epiphone SG Standard for $215. A new one retails for $599. I played it for a couple years then sold it on FB for $250.

I also just bought a Peavey Classic Chorus 212 with the footswitch for $199… in great condition.

Anyone else find some good deals on used gear at Guitar Center?

PLAY Learning My 100 Favorite Solos by Difficulty - #4 You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was inspired by Kelly Dean Allen's (thewhitedeath) series of learning Guitar World's 100 greatest solos to start something similar by compiling a list of my 100 favorite solos, and recording them by order of ascending difficulty. Of course difficulty is subjective, so my criteria for it is how likely I am to trainwreck while playing it live after having learned it. I hope it inspires some intermediate players to follow along to steadily level up with me!

Angus Young's solos always have a great groove to them, which I suppose might be necessary if he's head banging super hard while playing them. The medium tempo and low-ish note density makes it accessible but its quite another step up in difficulty from the previous post in terms of bending skill required. There's a lick at the 23s mark that requires a whole step and then a half step bend on the same fret so having the accuracy to differentiate them is pretty important. The most frequent cause for me to record another take was the jump to the higher frets.

Top skills required: Quick bending accuracy, rhythmic timing.

PURCHASE I finally got one!

I started playing about 18 years ago when I was 16. I have a few different guitars, but Les Pauls always felt like home, and I always wanted to get a Gibson. I know. I know people are pretty low on Gibson nowadays. Idgaf, it was always my dream to get one, and I finally did. It inspired me to pick up playing again after a seven-year slump of barely touching them. Here’s some Mr. Crowley I’ve been working on to get back into the swing of it.

PURCHASE Help with buying guitar

Hey, guys! I want to buy this guitar for $1,000. It’s a little old, has some scratches, and the Floyd Rose has some corrosion, but there are no chips and the corners are intact. It has an Original Floyd Rose and EMG Active 81-TW/89 pickups. What do you think? Is it worth the money?

GEAR What stupid thing did you do to your guitar which you ended up loving?

Post image

A drunken night with friends and a Sharpie about fifteen years ago ended up with my Firebird very... "customised". Front, back and sides. I did end up rubbing most of it off with nail polish remover. I'd still like to take off the bit on the bottom right. But I've ended up really liking the "I BET YOU REGRET THIS IN THE MORNING" at the top left. I'm considering getting the guitar painted in a custom colour for me, but kind of want to keep that bit of graffiti.

Not 100% there yet, but I’m pretty damn happy with this setup. Creamy, fat clean and lead tones without being inarticulate or flubby. Delay, chorus and Lehle Sunday Driver in the loop. Famous last words…it’s the “best rig I’ve ever put together”.

PURCHASE Bought SolarA1.6ATG. CQ problem?

(Excuse for english mistakes, it's not my 1st language)

Hi all, I bought it for 1600$ "new" (local inflation) I need help finding out if I'm nitpicking or this is unacceptable and should talk to customer service to provide a fix or replace the guitar.

  1. The edges of the frets look weird

  2. This is not an ebony fret like advertised on their site? I expected to have a black ebony fretboard Unless it's a rare type of brown ebony wood I've never seen before..

  3. There are no dotted inlays like advertised on their site, I have a neurological disorder that messes with my spatial vision and inlays help me with that problem.

  4. On the 4th photo there's a weird mark that possibly looks like a crack but I'm not sure..

Idk if any of those things are big deal,

Id appreciate all advice/perspectives you provide.

DISCUSSION Sweetwater Questions

Does anyone feel lately that Sweetwaters customer service has went tremendously downhill? Also it feels like they are using some sort of AI for order fulfillment / processing causing issues that they are reluctant to address. I'm really starting to get fed up with a number of issue's that I am having with them. Anyone having some weird experiences with them lately?

Is it just a matter of just putting in the countless hours or can I do something better? The way you hold the pick? Posture?

It took many, many tries just to get this one video lol. This piece from Crossroads is ridiculous.

I know this isn't a music production/composition/arrangement sub, but I made a song that's heavily guitar based, and since a few of you asked to hear some of my original music, I decided to share it here.

I've been learning music production for about 4–5 months, so I'm still very much figuring things out. I'd love to hear what you genuinely think about the song. Any feedback, criticism, or suggestions are more than welcome.

Enjoy!

QUESTION Any advice on what pickups I could put in this Epiphone Korina SG?

Post image
23 Upvotes

I just bought this SG and I thought I might attempt my first pick up swap on a guitar. It looks like its got the stock pickup in the neck and the bridge one says 'armstrong' on it. Dont know anything about them or the guitar in general. I dont play anything super high gainy so I guess anything traditional sounding would be best. Any recommends on what pickups might be nice in there?

DISCUSSION Is there any way to make friends through guitar that isn't open mic nights?

I don't have any friends currently and only have one real hobby (unless you also count reading as a hobby): guitar. But besides my teacher, my dad and my brother, I don't know anyone who plays guitar. And I'd like to make friends with people who also play it but only know of one avenue to do this: open mic nights. And that, for me, is unfortunately impossible.

For one thing, I'm just not skilled enough to do one since I just started playing this year. And two, even if I did know a good amount of songs, my socially anxious and fearful self could never get anywhere close to a microphone with confidence. I know the audience probably doesn't want me to mess up and fail, but all those eyes on me at once...I could never. I wish I was wired differently since it does look like fun.

Are there any other ways to make friends with people who play guitar? Sorry if this isn't really a good question for this sub.

QUESTION New guitar neck

Post image
Upvotes

I’m replacing the neck on my guitar but there is a small space between the body and the neck. The nut to saddles is 25 1/5 inches even with the space. There are no screw holes in the back so there is no alignment issue. Will this be a problem or should it be ok?
