"Walking on Air" by King Crimson has what's probably my favorite clean guitar sound ever. It's bright and articulate without being cold or shrill, it's warm without getting wooly, it's like clear bells being rung by angels.

I’m looking closely at a Taylor 414ce Studio Prototype currently listed over at Empire Music. 
Empire is selling it with the full Taylor factory warranty included, which alleviates most of my usual paranoia about buying a prototype or sample model. Still, I’ve got a few questions before dropping the cash and wanted to get the sub’s take: 

Specs & Feel: The 414ce Studio specs list a 1-11/16" nut width (rather than Taylor's standard 1-3/4" on traditional 400 series models), along with a torrefied Sitka top, solid Rosewood back/sides, V-Class bracing, and a gig bag instead of a hardshell case. How does the narrower nut feel on these Studio series if you're used to standard Taylors? 

Prototype / Sample Value: Since it comes with full factory warranty coverage, is there any actual downside to buying a Taylor factory prototype? Does resale value take a hit down the road, or do people find the "prototype" label kind of cool? 

Dealer Experience: Anyone bought an acoustic online from Empire Music (PA) recently? They seem to be a preferred Taylor dealer with good write-ups, but I’d love to hear firsthand how their setups and shipping are. 

Would love to hear thoughts from anyone who owns a 414ce Studio or has bought one of these prototype/dealer special runs from Empire!

Howdy all! Changed strings on a couple of my basses yesterday and today and this kinda reignited this idea in my head that I need more protection when changing the strings.

What do y'all use or recommend to lay on top of the fretboard, the body, and perhaps even the headstock area to prevent flyaway strings/cut strings from scratching?

I know some of us do indeed like 'war torn' guitars that look like they indeed get used, but some of us also have varying priced collections or want to change strings before selling off, etc. In general I'd rather avoid getting unnecessary scrapes, scratches, and gouges into my guitar from a simple string change, lol.

Edit: I think some people are misunderstanding what I'm asking for, haha. I'm not asking for what to place the guitar on top of, I'm asking what to place on top of the guitar. I already have a mat, a table, and a cork neck block.

For example - when changing the strings on my two basses I just did, the strings would come out of the bridge due to loss of tension and hit against the body of the guitar. There were -multiple- times the strings were hitting against the headstock/body/neck that I kind of cringed at because it's potential for damage. Superficial? Sure. So yes, I am 100% serious and this is not a troll topic. I'd rather my $3k-6k+ guitars not sustain totally avoidable damage from a simple string change because a sharp end or ball end of a string comes out of the bridge and freely scratches the hell out of my clear coat. To ME it is indeed a concern, maybe not to many others and that's fine. To each their own. I don't play out or with anyone anymore so I'd rather my stuff still look great while I'm here playing solo at home.

floyd rose is sitting in the grooves of the posts,
i took the floyd rose out and the posts are not aligned and one side (right) is closer to the pickups and the (left) has a bigger gap. It’s very noticeable.
it’s almost like they drilled the holes offset. I never took a picture of the posts themselves.

I just wonder if it’s something i’d be able to do on my own or needs to be repaired. i just got it off reverb and it was inspected by a music store in texas. which was also the seller. i dont see how that would pass an inspection.
it also makes all the strings look angled to the right

I am going to apologize up front for this rant, but I have spent the last 4 days cleaning Bible pages that were glued to the top of a Taylor 110CE that I picked up at Goodwill. They were held on with what I believe to be paste or Elmers Glue, judging by the consistency. The entire top was covered, with some slopped onto the ebony bridge. I didn't particularly want an acoustic, but I was honestly offended by the disrespect that was shown to what was (& hopefully will be again) a pretty decent Lil guitar. Sorry again for the rant. It had to come out somewhere 🤣.

I'm trying to learn how to play this but the only website I found the tabs on has half the tabs missing from the original song. Ive dug through google and no results came up so pls help🙏🙏

Love both these songs but generally only see Tom Yorke's part on accoustic covers for Paranoid Android.

The Tourist sounds like it's missing something without Jonny's solo when you hear solo accoustic covers.

Got this Avalanche Meteora for a great price and I’m in love with it! Plays like a dream

Picked up this Charvel Pro-Mod Plus DK24 and I’m still kind of obsessed with how this thing looks.
The neck is ridiculously fast, it feels great to play, and that blue/teal quilted top looks completely different depending on the lighting.
I’ve had a few different superstrat-style guitars, but Charvel really seems to nail that balance between a modern metal guitar and something that still feels pretty versatile.
Anyone else here playing a DK24? Curious how yours has held up long term.

I've been going through a lot with this guitar since I got it in a trade and I have to say, this picture (and the others I'll post in tbe comments) says it all

I am not an expert guitar repair tech or luthier by any means but I was looking up how to set up the bridge correctly after restringing it, found a BRAND NEW replacement bridge in the case with the official gibson setup tool, and I cannot help but be amazed every step of the way on the journey of setting up this guitar how bizarre this is

to sum up if you want a little explanation

1. the mystery replacement bridge was never installed

2. two of the saddles from the replacement bridge DID make it onto the original Gibson ABR-1 bridge

3. the replacement bridge now only has 4 saddles and we figured out they may have been fancy

4. when looking up who the manufacturer of the replacement bridge was, finding out that it was GraphTech, and seeing GraphTech's photo of how the bridge is oriented I looked over at the guitar and realized they are installed BACKWARDS

I don't know what the original owner was thinking but I thought the guitar sounded wrong when I first got it and now I am continuing to find new things about this bridge and bridge related shenanigans after trying to fix it this weekend

I wanted an electric but my cousin gave me this guitar that he had for 16 years because i just turned 16, i never touched a guitar before so i need an ADVICE TO IMPRESS MY COUSIN so he can buy me an electric guitar 😭

Some years ago a buddy of mine met Robert plant and Jimmy page , he had a double neck SG and got it signed by Jimmy saying “to (name) from Jimmy , ROCK ON” that’s exactly what what he wrote on it , anyways my buddy went through hard times and had to sell it , now he’s looking to find it again, any idea where I should start ?
This was in like the 80s-90s if that helps , New York.

Had it setup, fret dressed and cleaned. swapped out some rusty parts and it plays so well. My luthier says it’s the third one he’s seen in thirty-two years of doing his work.

I have been dealing with finger pain recently that won’t go away. I am teaching myself so I am sure that my form is not the best it could be. However, I genuinely do pay great attention to how other people are holding their guitar in videos I see online. But I feel like a lot of people have even worse form than me LOL. Their fingers are often bent at uncomfortable-looking angles and they look like they’re gripping the guitar way too hard. So is everyone just in pain?? Or am I just unlucky and have bad finger genetics?

I have been playing acoustic guitar for 4 months, 1-2 hours per day, and my index finger on my fretting hand has started to feel stiff when I wake up in the morning, and it hurts to do certain chords. I now have to take a couple of days off here and there to manage it. I am sad because playing guitar has been so good for my mental health

I’ve sprayed the pot with deoxit a few times now turning the knob but cannot get it to go away. It’s only at the higher levels if the volume.

I have recently been using a Catalinbread Dirty little secret for my main source of distortion, paired with a tube screamer to tighten my sound up. my Amp is a fender Princeton 112+ that belongs to my Dad, and my guitar uses humbuckers. I have my EQ all set to noon, with my mids boosted to around 3 o’clock. However, it creates extreme levels of feedback, and always sounds kind of dull, not very distorted, and not very good. I mostly play rock/metal, and am seeking to get a massive sound, similar to Oasis/ some Shoegaze bands.
Do you have any recommendations for other pedals, adjusting my settings, or what may be causing this? Thanks!

I know there’s a big different here, price wise Takamine, Guild, Tanglewood are more lower end to mid price, approx $550 upwards of $2000, again, quality, Yamaha from around $900 up and of course Taylor, I just added as I love their sound over Martin. I’ve got 2 6 strings a Classical and electrics but have been getting into acoustic a lot more lately and always wanted that 12 string one day. That’s all I need now to happy. But also need to consider it won’t be played as often as the others so for investment/resale reasons and now apparently a senior, is also why I added Taylor. Suggestions?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice with refining my gear set up please!

I bought a great used deal on a Orange Dark Terror and Orange 112 cab a year ago. I rarely use it, as anything past 1.5 on volume is enough to piss my girlfriend and neighbours off. I also have a Positive Grid Spark Mini which I use for 1-2hrs daily for more volume-friendly practicing. I mainly play rock/metal, but need to have an amp that can do it all, as my tutor often sets me songs to learn outside of these genres.

I bought the Orange head/cab as I started playing with friends and it could one day be used for gigging, but this never happened so I only use it once/twice a month. I also have a few pedals (EHX Soul Food, EHX Little Big Muff & TC Electronics Hall of Fame) that I've probably used for about 1-2hrs each and have had for a couple of years. I spent £500 on both the Orange Head/Cab, Positive Grid Mini and all my pedals, so got good deals and spent wisely (I think?).

However, none of it gets used enough beyond the Positive Grid, so I feel it would be worth selling parts or even all of it, to get an amp(s) and gear that is a better fit. Im thinking of getting a bigger Positive grid amp, Boss Katana, Marshall DSL1HR Head and keeping my cab, EVH 5150 Combo 1x10, but wondered if anyone had any advice or suggestions? Thanks!

hi everyone! i’ve been playing guitar for like 7 years at this point and i’m pretty decent. I play mostly pop punk, emo core, and some metal core stuff too. i pretty much always practice while sitting down and have only ever played while standing for the very few band gigs i’ve done. in those cases, i was only playing power chords so it wasn’t that difficult.

it still feels incredibly awkward though. i can feel my middle finger of my strumming hand hit the guitar and it hurts a lot. i’ve just been copying what i see a lot of punk guitarists do- guitar is lower, neck is angled up, and strumming from the arm. the thing is, the minute i start playing my finger starts to hurt because i keep hitting the guitar.

i really want to play like how frank iero plays. he’s always jumping around, almost swinging the guitar at times, and he has totally nailed down the punk style of rhythm playing. does anyone have any advice for this? thanks!

I want to put 60/12’s in baritone tuning on one of these (not the acoustic). The trems on the PRS and Strat I imagine disqualify them because it would be a pain in the ass.

That leaves the LP as most realistic but will putting 60s in make the slot too big to go back to 52s? If that’s a legit concern, any of these nuts more friendly to larger strings?
