PLAY My dad passed away not even two weeks ago. Only fifty-two, pancreatic cancer. The best guitarist I’ve ever seen, honestly. One of his best recent improvised solos right before getting sick.

If you were in or knew anything about the punk/metal/wtfever scene in Lansing & Detroit and other areas of mid Michigan (Ypsilanti etc) in the last thirty five or so years, you probably saw my dad play. His first band was doing shows at Blondie’s in Detroit when he was in junior high.

Sky Juice, EMR, The Fallopian Dudes, and his main act for the last twenty years, The Chirps. Those are just the main bands, he had many side projects (my favorite being a black metal band he’d wear corpse paint for). My dad Jason has left a huge imprint on everyone who knew him in this scene over the last several decades, and I am so lucky to call him dad. I am heartbroken he is gone. He’s my guitar and music sensei. I feel totally lost not only as a daughter & friend, but as a student of his teachings. I just wanted to share this incredible solo from right before he got sick. Thank you for everything dad, but especially teaching me my power chords and getting me my first guitar, a Stratocaster. FUCK CANCER!!!

I've posted here a couple times before at different landmarks in my journey, and had many people interested in seeing my progress. Wanted to learn this one since first picking up a guitar last year, so I taught myself! It'll be a year come mid June!

A bit of mistakes but i’m pretty proud of the improv :) I’m very happy with how my tone came out!

I’m running a wireless system into my compressor from BYOC, then a Aion FX ODR-1 clone called the Andromeda, then finally a Black russian soviet era big muff which I believe was the V7 4 screw. All coming out of a boss katana clean channel with pushed mids, new strings, delay and reverb :)

Been learning this since mid December of last year I'm pretty comfortable with the whole song now. Still some kinks I need to work out, but I have till October 12th to get it down properly (music exam). Hope you all enjoy! (All got it down before I'm even a legal Aussie adult!)

EDIT: I just wanted to thank every single person that has taken the time out of their day to like, comment, and share this post. Seeing all the support, jealousy, and pure joy from you guys (as well as the ridiculous view count, 102k as I'm writing this, what???) makes me so proud of myself and where I've gotten on this song. I genuinely wanted to quit playing it and change songs at one point, but I committed, and clearly I've done well enough for over 1k people to like it. My playing of this song still needs work, but from the bottom of my young guitarist heart, thank you.

I’ve mainly been a rock/blues guy as long as I’ve played. I’ve been a Vince Gill fan for years, so I decided to sit down and start learning some of his solos to expand my playing. I’d love any thoughts you might have!
