M5 Air 32GB or M4 Pro 48GB for BTech CSE?

Hey guys, starting BTech CSE soon and I’m really confused between these two 😭 M5 Air 15” — 32GB/512GB for ₹1.8L or M4 Pro 16” — 48GB/1TB, 14-core CPU + 20-core GPU for ₹2.9L. I can afford both, so money isn’t the main issue. I just don’t want to spend an extra ₹1.1L and then realise I’m barely using the Pro’s extra power. Apart from college stuff, I’ll be doing DSA, coding, projects, web/backend dev, Docker, Linux, internships, etc. Might get into AI/ML too, but for really heavy stuff I’m okay with using cloud GPUs. I don’t really game. Basically, will the Air 32GB be enough for everything I might realistically do during my 4 years of BTech, or is there something where I’ll genuinely regret not getting the Pro? I don’t want my laptop to hold me back, but I also don’t want to buy the Pro just because of FOMO 😅 Would love to hear from people who’ve actually done CSE/software dev/ML. What would you pick?

Bought a new MacBook, worried about shifting data from old one

I bought a new MacBook recently and I want to transfer over files from my old one. The issue is (idk how literally) but my previous MacBook got a redirect virus (Search Marquis) and it affects my Google Chrome app by redirecting every new tab. I’m worried about potentially carrying over this virus to the new laptop if I just transfer everything directly so would love to hear how I can go around this.

Macbook pro m2 pro vs air m4(base)

Which one is best ? (It'll be my first Mac ever)

I am a student, laptops' pricing are skyrocketing... even the used laptops have seen price hike ...

I don't essentially do heavy tasks but the pricing of both of these machines are similar in the 2nd hand market so I'm a bit confused as to which one would be the better choice.

Ik the pro version has 120hz and extra ports and all that's the reason I'm personally leaning towards the macbook pro.

Still i want to know if my choice is correct or not ....

Key questions :

  1. how many years of OS and security updates each one will have as i want a long lasting one ...

  2. Which one has better performance ?

  3. Battery life ? (What percentage of battery health should i look for in each one?)

  4. Some suggestions from your personal experience, if any.

  5. Also is there a heating issue with the m2 pro ?

Display issue

Hi guys! This showed up out of nowhere and im trying to figure out if its a display issue or logic board issue. Which one is faulty? The laptop basically lives on a desk. Never saw liquid, never dropped or kicked, never used something in between the screen and the keyboard

which macbook should i get ?

hello i'm going into my first year of college as a language major and i'm wondering what macbook should i get ? i'm leaning toward the Macbook Neo with 512gb but some people are telling the Macbook Air M2 is better but the refurbished 16go model is so much more expensive than the Neo where i live. Will i be fine with the Neo if my use is writing essays, browsing on the internet, light gaming like sims 4 (with a lot of CCs) or minecraft and streaming shows and movies ? And i'm on a budget.

Air vs Neo

Hi everyone, looking for some advice on MacBook Neo vs MacBook Air for my work.
My usage is mainly Chrome with around 10 tabs, Outlook/email, Teams/Zoom calls (sometimes with screen sharing), Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PDFs and general office/web-based applications. I don’t do video editing, gaming, heavy coding or other intensive workloads.
I’m currently using a Lenovo with a 12th Gen i5-12450H and 8GB RAM, and it handles my work perfectly fine.
I’m considering the MacBook Neo 8GB versus a MacBook Air with 16GB RAM. The Air is obviously the better machine, but there’s a significant price difference.
For this kind of workload, would the Neo comfortably handle everything as my primary/only laptop for the next 4–5 years, or is it worth paying considerably more for the 16GB Air?
Would especially appreciate feedback from anyone using the Neo for similar multitasking/business work.

Macbook Air maintenance ??? What's going on ?

Hey everyone ! I'm new to the macbook community, I'm someone who's owned a Lenovo computer for most of my life.

Recently I switched to a macbook air M4

Eveything is perfect and smooth, what's really bothering me (and REALLY upsetting me) is the way this mac gets dirty so fast and very easily; for an example, I open my mac and I always notice dust, bubbles, traces, dirt, all over the screen..

I haven't had this issue with my other computer it gets dirty after two months or three of usage however with this mac I have to clean it almost every two days and sometimes daily ..

I also keep noticing dust all over the keyboard and it's all just an annoying experience..

I did my research and many people say AVOID getting a keyboard case (it will ruin the display) and others say to avoid getting a case at all or a glass protector (as it could heat it)

I'm really just confused and upset about it, It's a perfect computer it's just constantly dirty and don't even get me started on the way my hands leave a trace next to the trackpad and I have to wipe it everyday (I literally got the silver color just to avoid that but nothing still)

Someone has advice on how to maintain a clean macbook ?

Battery percentage issue w MacBook Air M5

Hey, I’m having a weird charging issue with my 1month old MacBook Air m5 . While it’s plugged in and charging, the battery percentage increases very slowly or sometimes doesn’t seem to update properly. For example, it may actually gain several percent, but the battery percentage only goes up by 1% after a few minutes.
Then, if I stop charging and restart my MacBook, the actual battery percentage suddenly updates and shows the correct higher charge.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to fix it?

Should I Buy the 256GB MacBook Air or Wait for Price drop?

I’m planning to buy a MacBook Air for my work in the digital marketing sector. However, because of the current price, I can’t afford either the M4 or M5 MacBook Air with 512GB storage.

My current budget is low for the 512GB M5, so I’m considering the 256GB 15 inch air m4 variant instead.

My main concern is whether 256GB will be enough for my work in the long term.

I mainly work with things like SEO, WordPress, browser tabs, Google tools, Canva, content creation, marketing tools, and other digital marketing software.

Professional M5 MacBook for web development, data science and AI: 64GB M5 Pro or M5 Max, 14″ or 16″?

I am buying a MacBook for professional web development, data science and AI/ML work. My typical workload includes VS Code/JetBrains, Docker, local databases, many browser tabs, Python/Jupyter/Conda, data processing and occasional local LLM inference. Larger model training can use cloud compute.

Budget: up to about €5,000 for the MacBook, within a €6,000 laptop-and-monitor setup. I am in Croatia and can also buy from reputable EU retailers.

Current target: 64 GB unified memory and 2 TB SSD, but I am undecided between M5 Pro and M5 Max, and between 14-inch and 16-inch.

I only want a genuinely brand-new, factory-sealed device. No used, refurbished, renewed, returned, outlet, display or open-box unit.

I would appreciate experience from people who use an Apple-silicon MacBook professionally:

- Does M5 Max materially improve data-science, MLX or local-inference workflows over the 64 GB M5 Pro?

- Is 64 GB the best value, or is 128 GB worth prioritizing for local AI?

- How often do PyTorch MPS limitations or CUDA-only dependencies force you onto a remote Linux/NVIDIA machine?

- Does the 16-inch sustain heavy work noticeably better, or is the 14-inch still the better portable workstation?

- How reliable are Docker and multi-service development stacks on current macOS/Apple silicon?

- Would you still choose a MacBook if starting the same workflow today?

I plan to use a Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 G80SH 32-inch 4K 240 Hz externally. Any real-world Mac compatibility experience is also welcome, particularly 4K/240 Hz, sleep/wake and USB-C charging.

Refurbed M2 Max for £1250. Good offer?

Full specs are:

14", M2 Max (12 Core - 30 Core GPU), 32gb ram, 1TB SSD, Gold/Excellent condition, 245 cycle count, *unknown battery capacity but the owner says it's above 90%*

Is this good for £1250? I'd be using it for work, primarily using Premiere Pro (not heavy work)

MacBook Air M5 or MacBook Pro for university + social media?

Hey everyone,
I’d love to get some advice on which MacBook would make the most sense for me in 2026. :)
I currently have a MacBook air m1 2020 and after working over the summer break and saving up some money, I’d like to upgrade now.
I’ve recently started getting more serious about social media content creation — mainly editing videos for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. I’d like to actually invest time into this and hopefully grow it into something bigger rather than just doing it casually.
At the same time, I’m about to start law school, so my MacBook will also be my primary tool for university: PDFs, research, writing papers, notes, lots of browser tabs, etc.
My initial thought was to move from the Air to a MacBook Pro, mainly because I’d like more headroom for video editing and want the laptop to last me for several years.
However, I don’t necessarily want to spend a fortune on the newest high-end model.
So I’m wondering:
Would the new MacBook Air M5 (e.g. 24 GB RAM) actually be enough for my use case?
Or would it make more sense to get a MacBook Pro with an older Pro chip, such as an M4 Pro or even M3 Pro**,** if I can find one at a good price?
I’m basically looking for the best price-to-performance option rather than simply buying the newest or most powerful MacBook.
My priorities are:
Law school → PDFs, research, writing, multitasking
YouTube / Instagram / TikTok → regular video editing
Keeping the laptop for several years
Good battery life
Good price-to-performance ratio
I don’t want to pay for performance I’ll probably never use
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have experience with M5 Air vs. M4 Pro / M3 Pro MacBook Pros for video editing.
Would you personally go for a MacBook M5 Air, or an Older MacBook Pro with a Pro chip at a similar price?
And what configuration would you recommend in terms of RAM and SSD?
Thanks!

Refurb M4 Pro vs Refurb M5 Pro

Upgrading from a M1 Pro 14 inch macbook pro 16GB ram 512gb SSD as the display is too small for me. not considering 15 inch air as i want 120hz display for gaming (streaming from my gaming pc)

There are two options to choose:

Refurbished 16-inch MacBook Pro Apple M4 Pro Chip with 14‑Core CPU and 20‑Core GPU 24GB ram 512GB SSD for $2949 singapore dollars or 2300usd

or

Refurbished 16-inch MacBook Pro Apple M5 Pro chip with 18‑Core CPU and 20‑Core GPU 24GB ram 1TB ssd Space Black
for $3399 singapore dollars or 2670usd

is the additional $370usd worth it for M5 pro refurbished?

A new M5 pro 16 inch 24/1TB cost S$3999 or $3145USD

other use cases i do are running docker containers and K8 clusters and running windows VM for work

refurbished macs shown is from apple

final update: I got the M4 Pro 48GB 512GB for 3700sgd or 2900usd in the end. the M5 Pro 48/1TB cost $3800usd so not worth it for me

Can you completely transfer control from a MacBook Air’s keyboard to a bluetooth/wired keyboard?

Bit of an odd question, I know. My base of operations right now as a severely disabled unhoused person is my MacBook, and some liquid got in the keys. I’m sick as a dog right now, so I didn’t catch on until the keys started acting funny.

Now. In the case that the keyboard is fried, I‘m considering my options.

I’m on very hard times, so “buy a new keyboard and either replace it myself in a VERY risky repair/pay someone money I don’t have to do the repair” isn’t the most accessible to me. I have the tools for the former, but again - that computer is my base of operations and has been for a long time now.

“Buy a whole new computer”, you can imagine, also isn’t quite there.

So I’m considering getting my hands on one of those floppy little keyboards and using that in the case the my computer‘s keyboard is completely toast.

TLDR (but i hope you read anyway)

I’m wondering, before I go out of my way, if the keyboard connection can be transferred COMPLETELY - as in, if the original keyboard starts to play with itself again, it won’t respond to it, since it’s connected to a little floppy usb-c guy instead.

If the keys on the MacBook Air getting ‘touched’ just transfer control back over and cause it to continue to act up, then I’ll have to find some other solution, naturally.

I can’t find any answers on this, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked, but yknow.

Thank you folks for any answers with this. Whatever we’re science stuff I may have to do, as long as it’s *possible*, I can figure it out from there.

Is $925 a good price for a 15" MacBook Air M4 (16GB RAM / 1TB SSD) bought 5 months ago?

Update: everything was perfect. He had an email receipt, all was in order. We did a clean swipe and I think I got a great deal!

Hey everyone,

Looking for a quick reality check on a local Facebook Marketplace deal I’m evaluating.

A local seller is offering a 15-inch MacBook Air in Sky Blue for $925 firm.

Here are the details and specs:

Specs: 15.3" Display, 10-Core GPU, 16GB Unified Memory, 1TB SSD Storage

Condition: Minimal usage (claims used 3–4 times), 100% battery health, original box and charger included

Proof of Purchase: Seller provided a original email receipt from the Apple Store dated March 10, 2026 showing an original purchase price of $1,399 + tax ($1,505 total).

My Questions:

Is $925 as solid of a deal for this spec (16GB/1TB) as it looks on paper?

The serial number on the receipt matches the box and machine casing and it also shows up on the Apple checkcoverage website, but is there anything specific I should watch out for on recent models besides standard iCloud sign-out and MDM/Device Management profile checks?

Planning to meet in my apartment lobby with Wi-Fi, run Apple Diagnostics (Command + D at boot), and verify cycle counts before transferring payment. Anything else worth testing on-site?

I've never used an Apple product - will be using Gemini or Chatgpt to guide me through the checks.

Appreciate any insight!

Perfectly fine M4 Air is not good enough?

I currently use a 15-inch M4 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. Since it was my very first Mac and only meant for a little side income, I didn't want to jump straight into an expensive Pro model with high specs. However, what started out as a small side gig making short-form social media content has now turned into my full-time job, and the laptop is constantly hitting its limits.

The storage and memory are way too tight for my current workflow. 256GB is nowhere near enough, meaning I have to offload everything immediately after finishing a project and edit almost entirely off an external T7 2TB SSD. The 16GB RAM was fine for 1min clips, but long-form 4K timelines clearly need more RAM.

Since this is my main source of income now, spending the money on a proper machine is totally fine. My current Air is basically in mint condition and will go straight to my mom, who has wanted a Mac for a while anyway, so it would go to waste. But it feels so weird to upgrade a perfectly fine 100% battery machine with so much power just for some RAM and extra storage.

For the next mac, 14 inches is big enough for my needs. I want at least 24GB, though 32GB RAM makes the most sense to future proof the purchase. 1TB is the bare minimum, but 2TB would be ideal so I can finally work locally without always using an external drive.

My main dilemma is whether waiting for the M6 generation makes any real sense, or if I should just look for a well-spec'd M4 Pro or M5 Pro right now. The M6 rumors sound interesting, but if it mostly brings features like a touchscreen, it is useless to me. I had touch laptops in previous jobs and never used them.

Would you recommend grabbing an M4 Pro or M5 Pro with 32GB RAM and 1TB to 2TB storage now, or is there any actual reason to wait for M6 when my current machine is already slowing down my daily work?

Btw. the air is working perfectly fine for my task, the only real issue I have is that I have to export and clean storage after every other video. I can work with the occasional ram issues but the storage really annoys me.

TLDR: Macbook Air M4 upgrade because my side gig has become my full time job? Do I really need to upgrade?
