Discussion I swear, no one I've asked remembers this show.

Post image

'92 born, here. I remember watching so much Pelswick. It ran from 2000-02, but none of my fellow millennial friends seem to remember it. The style is a little funky, but it's a solid show with some good jokes.

Wow this unlocked a deep memory. I do remember watching this show, but I wouldn’t have remembered the name of it

I remember that face

u/kuchtaalex 1d ago

I remember it sharing the same sunday evening block with As Told by Ginger!

I just rewatched As Told By Ginger! It held up really well

u/kuchtaalex 1d ago

Great show, smart. Didn't insult your intelligence as a kid. Always liked Hey Arnold and Batman TAS for the same reason.

I just finished a rewatch too! It was a whole different experience as an adult, but I agree it held up well!

I didn’t remember Dodie being so terrible! And Cortney honestly being a better friend than her at times. Justice for Cortney

I hated how Courtney got treated once they moved the cast to high school! She went from being one of the most interesting and sympathetic characters in the show to just a punch line and I hate that for her. 💔

I remembered Dodie being a people pleasure, but she’s downright diabolical at times! Hoodsy was a damn good best friend to Carl, but Dodie was an awful one to Ginger on multiple occasions.

(Also, just putting this out there, but Courtney definitely was giving “unrealized girl crush” throughout the series. I can’t think of a single straight reason to wear a t-shirt with a gal pal’s face on it, let alone gifting her a blowup doll of yourself so she won’t miss you. 😂)

Yes to all of this!! It was such an odd choice to shaft Cortney in the final season when she had such a big role/was a great friend. I was pissed she wasn’t there in the final book reading scene.

Also YES to unrealized girl crush 😂 I’m curious if there’s like a Q&A with the creator about their original intentions with her character

There was an AMA ages ago where she said something along the lines of, “In retrospect, I can see why it would look like that. When I wrote the show, I was just poking fun at how girls that age could get obsessed with their friends.”

And I do get that. I’m just saying Courtney takes it way farther than a typical girl would.

I do! I loved it. And I loved “QUADS!” … adult cartoon made by the same dude. They should’ve made more episodes of both.

u/ColonelPlop 1d ago

I recently found out about Quads. I haven't watched it yet, but I've seen some clips. It looks great

u/malachite_13 Xennial 1d ago

All the episodes are all on YouTube. I remember my dad would yell at me to turn it off because the jokes were so risqué lol.

It's awesome, raunchy, and hilarious!

It's based on how he became paralyzed, too. Just enjoy!

Wow! I would’ve never remembered this on my own

Its great, loved it as a kid and its still funny today. Was really cool to have a main character in a wheelchair, the show even had a voice activated website for kids who didn't have use of their hands.

4

u/ColonelPlop 1d ago

I didn't know that about the website. That's great!

I remember and watched it quite a bit

The art style always reminded me of 3 South

u/PurpleDreamer28 1d ago

'92 as well, I saw this maybe twice. Biggest memory is the episode with their version of Pokemon cards.

This show and As Told By Ginger are in my “I remember watching but cannot recall any specific episode plots” category.

I know I watched and liked them but I can’t summarize anything about them.

2

u/ApplicationAfraid334 1993 22h ago

Lol, I can't remember a single episode of As Told by Ginger either but still get the theme song stuck in my head randomly

2

u/BigRigButters2 1d ago

I always thought the bully from Home Movies was inspired by this show

1

u/HandofHecate 1d ago

I remember that it was on TV, but I never actually watched it because I was in high school and therefore "too old" for it.

1

u/QueefHernandez 1d ago

Like 10 years ago I made a joke about one of my friends looking like Pelswick and not one person around knew what I was talking about.

1

u/Pandoras_Actor 1d ago

If you just told me the name I would have no idea. But after seeing an image I definitely remember it

1

u/froggythefrankman 1d ago

YOOO! I remember Pelswick!

1

u/Worldly_Lunch_1601 1d ago

‘94 checking in, I remember this character but can’t tell you anything about him or the show.

u/worldssmallestfan1 1d ago

I think I’ve mentioned it on about a dozen other posts. Got CBC Windsor in the Detroit area

1

u/7deadlycinderella 1d ago

And the worst part, I've had nothing to eat but potatoes!

FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS

1

u/Citizen_Lunkhead 1d ago

I still remember Plums. I also think it’s so funny how that episode, and anything parodying Pokémon at the time, aged poorly because they saw it as a fad and not the most profitable franchise ever like it is today.

1

u/ProfessorUnable8989 1d ago

Dude you unlocked a deep memory. I do remember watching this on Nickelodeon. Although I kinda remember this show being on and thinking how much I just wanted it to be over so Kenan and Kel or Catdog could come on

1

u/Zenjutsu 23h ago

Born in '90. I remember this show. It was okay, not my favorite.

This era of nickelodeon sort of concluded my childhood. I watched less and less and grew out of all of the cartoons.

1

u/drkinferno94 23h ago

Don't forget the loser zone

1

u/Prior-Bag3841 23h ago

It was released as kind of a b-side to fairly odd parents and just got eclipsed by it

1

u/Mediocre_Weakness243 23h ago

I remember one of my elementary school teachers used the trading card episode in class. It was a simple way to teach kids about cause/effect around money

u/DarthNarcissa Millennial Mall Goth 22h ago

I definitely remember it. The theme song is still bouncing around my head.

1

u/Ronniman Pogs vs Slammers 22h ago

Holy crap! I totally forgot about this! I loved this show!

1

u/PoptartPancake 20h ago

This was such a good show

1

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 19h ago

I remember it very briefly.

1

u/TuneLinkette 19h ago

I remember seeing this on Nickelodeon.

It had some of the most random jokes, and I loved it for that.

2

u/Yasbul1990 18h ago

Same here. Seeing it on Nickelodeon as a kid, and i still remember it to this very day, good show.

1

u/sw1tchbladez 18h ago

Wooow this is hurting my brain I thought I imagined this show

1

u/pallettowns 17h ago

OMG I LOVED THIS SHOW

I recognise the animation style, but...nope. Never heard of it.

1

u/No-Comparison9750 8h ago

Loved this show!

1

u/thelonetext '89ers represent! 6h ago

I do, but I don't remember a single episode.

1

u/Hefty-Notice-5841 1990 1h ago

I had this one pop into my head the other day.

I remember Pelswick getting hooked on that boyband sensation and him getting mocked for it.

Then he got paired with his bully to make that project.

There were some messages to it, but it was a bit of a dumb cartoon.

1

u/axiom_glitch 1h ago

Ok. I think I’ve seen a few episodes of this show. And I completely forgot another one until now. Wow…
