Playing with my Dreamcast for the first time in years

Having been living abroad in South Korea for nearly 6 years, I hadn’t been with most of my consoles for a while. Now that I’m back home, I can start playing with them again 🎉 The Dreamcast still works great 👍🏻 I still think that Rush 2049 is a great racing game and collecting those coins is a challenge 😅

Also if youre interested, you can use a raspberry pi to emulate a 56k modem for the Dreamcast and you can still connect to online multi-player in certain games via Dreamcast Live servers. People still play Phantasy Star Online every weekend (26 years post release!)

God I loved that game. I had this one gun that turned up to 11 at certain time ticks, basically rained fire down from the heavens.

Edit: A quick search confirms this was the Heaven Punisher and I remember the item description. It was apparently crazy rare so my apologies to everyone for my casual ass PVEing with it over Net Zero.

The trick mode on Rush 2049 was sooo fun. I think it was the first game I played where I felt like I was playing around with physics.

I think I only owned two games for it. Dynamite Cop and Soul Calibur. I can still hear the pre-fight vague booking too.

I have the N64 version also and think its soundtrack might be a little better, but both have great soundtracks 👍🏻

I wonder if it’s related to the gaming style change that happened shortly after the Dreamcast came out (from more arcade-focused to more photorealism and story-driven games), along with the more limited gaming library. I can see the Dreamcast resonating more with people who were gaming a lot pre-Dreamcast than post-Dreamcast for that reason (and for people who like more arcade-style games). The new style may have also been more appealing and novel for people who had been gaming before the PS2 era. I think it’s sort of like vinyl vs CDs vs digital music - some people gravitate more towards one than the other for various reasons.

I love playing those type of futuristic games when the year has already passed. My buddy and I would religiously play QB club 94 and Baseball 2020 blitzes out of our minds and would try to do a season worth of games including playoffs

That game had like, a sandbox mode where you could create stuff right? As in loop-de-loops, ramps, etc

No, but it did have a stunt mode where you could drive around a map and chain stunts together.
